The Anthos Mining System

Is there a possible ETA on the iron mines? Cause I think right now, Iron is the most valuable object and the price is gonna start climbing fast

Is there an ETA? Yes, there is. Will I give it out? Sadly, probably not :/

The reason we usually do not give out ETAs is because, should any unexpected complications arise that cause us to miss a deadline we set for ourselves, the players will be a LOT unhappier and displeased than if we released something at the same time anyways without raising expectations. For instance, if I said the iron mine would be out in a single day, and it took two days, people would be a lot more frustrated than if we had said nothing at all and released it after a week, despite the latter time being longer than the prior. I will however assure you that we are working as fast as we can manage, and the wait should not be as long and dragged out as past releases have been.

I only meant a rough guess or time to allow leeway for such issues

PLEASE GET ME NETHERQUARTZ,

I WOULD LOVE BUILDING WITH MARBLE.

Caps for emphasis on how much I want them.

Basically I am rooting for the implementation of netherquartz in mine, 100 for a piece of marble is insane from the GM shops.

Diamond won't be able to be used for weapons and armor? .....................................................................................................................

And honestly I prefer the old simple system, I don't really like things being more difficult, simple things are better in my points of view sometimes.

Well, a number of dangers in mines...

Critters, collapsing supports, exploding gasses, falling rocks, tripping and falling onto hard surfaces, breathing in large quatities of small dust, entrapment, drowning, tools breaking suddenly on veins of stronger material and possibly flying into your face..

I would agree with other points made in this topic, in regard to 'hiding minerals'. Having bits of rock in front of certain veins which can be removed, would add for more of a search. Hitting certain 'false rocks' might trigger one of many dangers.

An ore which is hanging over a support might be critical to the structure's stability, and could bait the greedy ones into their untimely demise. Some parts of the cave system may be underwater, and require some diving and the like, to reach. Give mines more of a maze/labyrinth feel through larger layouts, with more complex, but thinner'n smaller tunnels. It would likely increase the atmosphere of discomfort. Also, a mine should probably have more than one entrance or exit.. And not all must be artificial.

In regard to minecarts... They shouldn't make it too easy to get around the mines. And they shouldn't connect the entrance to the rarer minerals. While a long minecart ride can be 'epic'... There's lil' roleplay involved, and lil' actual mining. It could be useful in mines were all the common minerals near the surface are depleted, and a deeper level is present to mine said 'common-minerals'...

But, other than that, I wouldn't really know.

I want to be able to actually mine, not sure about others but whenever I try to mine the coal or w/e it just tells me I do not have permissions to the area.

I personally like the current mine system but often find that all the ores are gone when I get there. Other than that I love it and can't wait until other mines come out!

I like the traditional way of mining, could we have a poll to see what one is more wanted in LOTC?

Personally, i'm on the fence about it.

Frankly, it's not very realistic someone would sit on their bum waiting for coal to respawn, someone would make an actual mine and mine around for actual coal...

HOWEVER

Eventually the coal will run out, so then people get mad, then they bug the GMs to respawn the coal, then the GMs are mad and don't have time for other players demands, then the players get even more mad... Yadda yadda yadda...

While i'd prefer a more realistic solution in the sense that I can go into the wilds and mine ore, that's sadly not a possibility, as A) Eventually we're going to run out, and B) People have abused this privilege far too many times. So this is a good alternative. Hope to see iron, gold, lapiz, etc. Soon.

I think this mining system will fail hard. many reasons for it:

1. One person enters it, removes all the ores, no one else for (I've seen the numbers) hours can get any ores

1.1 You make the mine too big for this not to happen, and there is a huge influx of ores into the server, probably to a guild.

1.2 You make the place dangerous and all you will be making is that the already powerful get more powerful, like powerful guilds.

2. Ores are way too easy to find in those mines, it's just getting there and grabbing some, no actual need to really look.

2.1 You make them easy to find but hard to get to, means a lot of bitching from players for wasted time

2.2 You make them hard to find, and that works the first time, the second time the person already knows where they are.

3. Mines don't seem to be things that only some are allowed to use like it should be, everyone can go there and mine. Be it an orc in the dwarven lands, or an elf in White Rose land.

3.1 The fix for this would be to charge minas for the one who wants to mine, like in Aegis, players would complain that they didn't have enough minas

3.2 Make it that only some can give perms to it. Players will call bias on it.

4. Location of the mines will be called out for bias.

4.1 Placing mines everywhere with the same stuff will make trade between nations impossible.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now solutions:

Use Shoi's lore on the ores, no ores on the mainland. To get ores they would have to find other places using ships (fast travel ones) There would be rp to steal routes, trade secrets, keep secrets and so forth. Boarding on the ship would take some minas from the person boarding as for the ores not being all gains and no loses. The minas would then go to the nation which would use it to pay workers, because it's hard to get minas into the nation to pay all those workers. In the mines, the ores would have a small drop rate, and after mined, it would disapear for something like 5-60 mins, then reapear but still couldn't be mined by that player for the amount of hours. This would also make pickaxes get destroyed more commonly like normal.

-------

Now, this is all a fancy idea, but even if this idea isn't implemented, the mines right now look good, and are possibly a location for events, and this system can give players finally, some material getting like netherrack, glowstone, lapiz, redstone, emeralds, soulsand, quartz, and so forth. Yet I think if unchanged it will fail.

Please make sure the ore is difficult to find, and in small quantities per mine. There is already a lot of iron, and since diamonds are out of the picture, the iron pricing should stay as it is, not any lower.
