[Resolved] Do You Have To Imitate?

I was just wondering whether or not it is necessary, or common courtesy, to imitate your RP (ie. Shaking your head if you RP'd doing so, limping around instead of running around if you broke a leg/foot). I was called on it a few times where people told me I should do so, and I didn't think it was necessary to do so, thinking my actions in Minecraft are ooc and the actions I RP are the ones that matter. I don't see why, just because you broke your foot IC, you can't run the way from Malinor to Vaerhaven, seeing that shift walking would take ages. Of course, if I RP'd breaking my foot, I wouldn't run around in RP, just in ooc Minecraft movement, to get from one place to another faster. Just wanted an opinion of whether or not, not acting as you RP'd through your ooc Minecraft actions is okay.

Uhm... Hrm... Well, this is a difficult one to answer. If we're talking about fall damage, most people just ignore it if it's in the wilds. If you fell off a roof RP or suffered an injury in RP, then you need to emote as such. As for applying it in MC mechanics, I'd say you could probably just do what you usually do. Unless you emote running away to run in MC with a broken leg. It's really situational. Are we talking about in a combat situation, or some other situation, e.g. just walking around on city roads?

RP is RP. MC is MC. Theres no need to imitate unless you're in a real rp situation where MC movement applies. If you're just getting around OOCly theres no need to shift walk or anything.

Well, I guess I was being general, so all. Also, I was asking if you could do what you normally do in Minecraft, sprinting while jumping, jumping down to the bottom of stairwells, parkouring a little, as long as Rply you've done what you should be doing, walking with a cane if you broke your foot, and walking a steep hill (if I'm trying to parkour up).

If you're just getting around and not in a RP situation, I think you'd be fine to just do what you normally do. Keep in mind, if you run around with a broken leg or try to fight with one, you are powergaming. In MC just getting around, on the other hand, operating as you usually do is just fine.

Some imitation is good, but not required. Simple things like- as you said- nodding your head when you emote doing so, is a good imitation to use, it creates more of a 'personal' feeling.

Limping around with a broken leg can take a long time. I personally like to emote limping, limp the first couple of steps then return to normal pace, my character is RPly limping, though. If you shift-click the whole way, people may get tired of waiting for you to catch up if you are going somewhere to RP.

Of course, when you're trying to MCly recreate a chase, without needing to RP the running... but I was talking about conventionally, or when you're Rping that you ran up to someone, do you need to come closer to them, or can you RP from a distance (as long as you can still hear them, and they can see you)?

If I'm lets say shot in the leg, I'd usually walk around shift-clicked, or sneaked, if shift isn't your crouch key. Just to add to the realism a bit. If no ones around though, I use MC sprints and such to move around, and RP it like it was a reasonable amount of time.

You do not need to recreate the emotes or the rp in mc mechanics, the only thing is does is add to the experience. Yes,if your character has a broken leg and you want to move somewhere else, you can MC'ly run, jump, take fall damage, etc, as long as it isn't stopping others from rp'ing correctly, like chassing, following, going to grab, not enough time to emote, and so forth. And yes, you can be further away than in rp, but only small things, not always can you do so. More than normaly other players check the location of your character by the MC figure, so if you are at the door way in rp, you should be at the door way in MC. If you can not get on a roof in MC, you can not get on the roof in rp. If you're in front of a man in MC, you can not be behind him in Rp.

So my conclusion, when it's OOC'ly walking and doing things, you can ignore a bit the rp condition and just move MC'ly, when you are in rp, try to keep your mc figure in the location it would be, thought you still don't have to nod, shake the head, limp, and so forth in MC mechanics, just pretty much the position.

I disagree. All instances can be RP instances. Just because someone on the road is not someone you usually don't play with doesn't mean that they aren't going to provide a random awesome experience. If there is noone around then move how you like, but if you see someone then keep up your character. It is a bit stupid if you sprint jump past someone and then when they arrive in town you are RPing that you have a broken foot.

And when I was RPing with struggling to walk I would just walk about 4 squares and then take my finger off the keyboard then put it straight back down. It only made you a little bit slower, but if you were following someone they would turn around and see you back there.

If your character nods, you might as well nod. It isn't hard. And then you can just nod with MC mechanics and not have to emote it.

There is never any decent reason to reduce the quality of your roleplay and the depth that you engage with your character.

On the roads if I become injured I just sprint jump as I would normally but if I see someone around me I start to imitate the whole crouching deal. I don't believe it really is required or frowned upon for that matter, I for one love it when people do imitations in RP.

This is rather an odd one to answer. Imitation depends entirely on whether the scenario is IC or OOC. If there are people around you and you are RPing out a hostile situation whilst your character suffered from a broken leg, then clearly running away with MC mechanics would be a silly thing to do, and make no sense. But if you were walking along roads with other people, you don't need to slow down just for the sake of RP if they're not going to RP with you. It'd be reasonable to say that all the tedious limping is implied, due to the fact that it's simply not fun. I'd say you can use your better judgment to decide when a scenario should or should not be represented by Minecraft mechanics. So long as it would be fun or interesting for both players, I'd go along with it. But otherwise, it is not mandatory. Just don't go chasing after horses with a gimp leg.
