Alan 1815 Share Posted June 8, 2013 More threads more polls, more polls more threads, you know it goes by now. This SHOULD be the last poll for finalizing the month names and seasons, as I've combined the most voted and popular choices of the last poll into only three options that make sense. Hopefully there's a clear winner, or else you'll be seeing me again! Read this thread for reference. Month Names Option 1: Freya's Freya's System with the combination of the Quarter-Year Seasons. Yes, the Full-Year Seasons had more votes, but it doesn't make sense with the month names in this system, or else we'd have "Sun's Smile" when it's winter or perhaps "The Deep Cold" when it's summer. Example date IG:3rd of Snow's Maiden, 1452 Option 2: Gaius' Gaius' System with the combination of the GoT Seasons. Gaius' month names had the most votes after Freya's, and they are more compatible with the most popular season system as the month names are not related to the weather or seasons. Example date IG:18th of Spurseferth, 1452 Options 3: Ptah's Ptah's System, which is a combination of Freya's and Gaius' systems. This system uses Gaius' month names, but has an additional extended zodiac cycle in the background for extended interest. 7 years of Gaius' month names would be equivalent to a single "zodiac" name for Freya's system. For those confused by this explanation, refer to this graph. As you can see, each color section is 7 weeks, and there are 7 sections total which takes up 49 weeks out of the IRL calendar's 52 months, 343 days to be exact. 21 of the remaining 22 days makes up for an 8th "short" zodiac year (the gray section) that will be likely called "The Second Seed", and the last day falls on June 21st, which gives us an entire celebratory zodiac year for the anniversary of the server! The zodiac years, as you can see, are aligned to mimic the IRL season cycle of the Northern Hemisphere. The season system would also mimic IRL, so one season cycle would be an entire year and when it's Summer IRL it is Summer IG. You are not required to memorize or know the zodiac cycle, it is more or less there for an interesting addition to the date naming. Example date IG:18th of Spurseferth, 14526th year of Sun's Smile Settling the Score... In other news, there has been some recent debate amongst the members of Lore Team. As you know, I am one to create multiple polls for the same topic (gee, who would have guessed?), but I failed to do this when deciding the actual length of the years that was discussed in this thread. Some LMs are still in debate over whether we should keep to the 7 days to one IC year, or if we should go with the 14 days to one IC year. 7 days had the most votes, but it was not the majority (check the percentage of voters), and thus a succeeding poll should have been made. Just for the sake of being absolutely sure, there will be a simple two option vote over the following options: Option 1: 7 days IRL = 1 year IC Essentially the system we decided to go with initially, as noted by Option 4 in the "Calendar Overhaul" thread. Option 2: 14 days IRL = 1 year IC Similar to Option 3 in the "Calendar Overhaul" thread, but rather than 14 months, there will still be 7 to prevent us from having to redo the past few polls and naming threads, but each month will be 2 days instead of 1. What Year Is It? Lastly, just a tidbit thrown into this thread so we can do as much as we can. For the actual year, we have the choice of going back to the Aegis method of numbering the year and continue as if we never switched to the Asulon method starting at year 1, or we can continue from the Asulon method. Option 1: Aegis method The year would be roughly 1435, as we left Aegis in 1351, spent around 65 years in Asulon, around 10 years in Kalos and Elysium, and around 10 years on Anthos so far.Option 2: Asulon method Based on the estimated time spans mentioned in the prior method, the year would be roughly 85 with year 1 being when we initially landed in Asulon. Neri 3590 Share Posted June 8, 2013 Ptah's / 14 days / Aegis Years - Ptah's : I think it's the happy medium between mine and Gaius's ideas, and seems the best suited. - 14 days: I think both options are way, way too fast, but this is the slower option of the two. - Aegis Years: Adds to the sense of 'age' in the world, and it's slightly awe-inspiring for new players if they join and it says "Year 14xx" as opposed to "Year 85".

Sultan 3953 Share Posted June 8, 2013 Seven days is honestly horrible for humans in my eyes, I do not believe most humans want to start at the age of one 1, most would start from 20-30, and would like to stay young for a while, but with the seven day system that goes fast So 14 here. Wizard 125 Share Posted June 8, 2013 Even 14 days would be rather short for humans.
Lago 2572 Share Posted June 8, 2013 26 years per IRL year. That's 20 to 46. It would take 3 years to play a character from birth to 78.
Alan 1815 Author Share Posted June 8, 2013 Even 14 days would be rather short for humans. 14 days would be the longest length for an IC year we've ever had. Even in Aegis it was faster than 7 days, as we went from 1300 to 1351 in a matter of 7 months, while the 7 day system does the same time frame of around 52 years in an entire year, 12 months. In Asulon we slowed the time down to 12 days to a year, which we've kept up until now, so this is two days slower yet. With 26 years IC to one year IRL, that essentially allows a human player two entire years (about as long as the server's even been up) to play from a young adult to a slightly older middle aged man, and three to five years to play until in the 100s. Considering the fact that we have a curse that pretty much forces humans to die, it shouldn't be a surprise when sooner or later that moment comes to pass. Elfen_ 232 Share Posted June 8, 2013 Freya/7 IRL DAYS= 1year/ Aegis Method. I came from like mid aegis. So I prefer the older stuff. Though if need be I can settle for Freya/14irl days/Aegis I think that could be best as well.
ski_king3 0 Share Posted June 8, 2013 Definitely the 7 day method in my mind, as I honestly feel having it any slower makes speeding the aging of one's character almost necessary if they aren't big fans of roleplaying a young child, which I think is very bad. I definitely believe that 14 days is far too long.
MamaBearJade 2090 Share Posted June 8, 2013 If I remember correctly, even IF its 7 days, its stated you dont HAVE to age your character that way.but thats if my memory isnt crap ^^;;
Alan 1815 Author Share Posted June 8, 2013 If I remember correctly, even IF its 7 days, its stated you dont HAVE to age your character that way. but thats if my memory isnt crap ^^;; This is correct. Of course we scorn those who don't age properly, but there's really nothing we can do about it as there's too many players to moderate over such a trivial detail. The only thing we can really do is create a plugin to force aging, and although Telanir IS coding such a thing for his upcoming releases, the option to auto-age is optional, not forced. Even so, if it was forced players could just set their ages back anyways, so it would be useless and only instill frustration and annoyance in the players. CombatRolePlay 1863 Share Posted June 9, 2013 I'd rather not have 7 or 14 days If I was human, good thing im not, I'd like to see some humans perma die for once :l so im going with
BlueSky 3 Share Posted June 9, 2013 The year would be roughly 1435, as we left Aegis in 1351, spent around 65 years in Asulon, around 10 years in Kalos and Elysium, and around 10 years on Anthos so far. I’d just like to point out that we were only in Elysium and Kalos for 5.8 years and we have only been in Anthos for 8.8 years. I also took the liberty of calculating the amount of year we were in Asulon for future reference, as well as Elysium, Kalos and Anthos. 28th of May, 2012 http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/55880-time/?hl=year -A year is 8 IRL days long. -We had been in Asulon for 44 years. From the 28th of May to the 28th of August, 2012, 93 IRL days had passed and 11.6 IG years had passed by. Between these two dates, a year was 8 IRL days long. (93 days/8=11.625) 28th of August, 2012 http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/68937-daynight-cycle-is-now-60-minutes/?hl=year#entry548257 -Each IG day is now 60 minutes, making each year 12 IRL days long. -We had been in Asulon for 55.5 years. (44+11.5=55.5) Between the 28th of August and the 15th of December, 2012, 110 IRL days had passed and 9.2 IG years had passed; each year was 12 IRL days long. (110 days/12=9.167) 15th of December, 2012 ttp://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/77710-asulon-final-event-25-unveiling/?hl=year -We left Asulon and entered Elysium. -We had been in Asulon for 64.8 years. (44+11.6+9.2=64.8) -Each year remains 12 IRL days long. Between the 15th of December, 2012 and the 23rd of February, 70 days had passed and 5.8 years had passed; a year remained 12 IRL days long. This was the period which we were situated in Elysium and Kalos. Between the 23rd of February, 2013 and the 9th of June, 106 days had passed and 8.8 years had passed; a year remained 12 IRL days long. Do note though, the calculations were based off days, not time. Elfen_ 232 Share Posted June 10, 2013 I'll like add why I dislike Ptah's and Gaius' ideas is because I have a hard time pronouncing things correctly. Having odd words like that for sure will have people pronouncing them wrong and/or butcher the words. I simplicity of words/
MamaBearJade 2090 Share Posted June 10, 2013 The only think I dislike about the two week system is it will take people almost a full IRL year before their character is really old enough to do anything if they play from age one. And makes it FAR harder for anyone who has an elf character to have more than 1 kid every 5 months. I know the curse plays into effect, but still. The people who complain most at the moment over this is those playing human characters....This is going to greatly hurt those who WANT to either have children in RP or want to PLAY a child. At least this is my opinion. I dont know anyone who wants to stay as a weak child for 4-5 months.
