Temporary Mining Plugin

 

1 This plugin essentially drastically reduces the respawn times for ores in the mines, for example the 1 hour 36 minute coal respawn time was reduced to 8 minutes! However, along with the drastically reduced times, 2 we compensated by adding a percent chance factor when mining. This means that you are not guaranteed to successfully acquire an ore upon mining the block! Higher tiered ores have higher respawn times and lower percent chances, though not to a point that acquiring ore is rare. Rather than give you all the exact values for each ore, I instead implore that you take the time to give the mines a look for yourself and find out! :)

 

1- Why wasn't that done to begin with? 

2- That's how the skill system was made, wasn't it?

Le sigh. Sorry but I'm not going to be following the 14 days for a year system myself. I'm not waiting 1 IRL year to age my child character to adulthood. (2 years for elves, since they aren't adults until age 50; heck, high elves aren't allowed to vote until age 50)

The poll should have been put in the news feed so that more people saw it. 142 votes is NOT enough to go by, considering the size of the server's playerbase.

edit: But on the more serious note... Aging my kha child (when/if I get accepted) to the age of 15 will take 30 irl weeks. That's no small time! (aprox. 7 and a half months!)... I doubt any children who have the wish to grow up eventually is going to follow the 14 day system. I think the solution would be to meet somewhere in the middle (Why can't we have 12 days again? Aging is automatic, anyway.)

I miss mining mine shafts. If done correctly, they're fun. Or they were for me at least. Personally, i'm not a huge fan of the whole "You MIGHT get the minerals you mine if you beat someone to mining them". Realistically, if you see ore of some kind and you mine it, you get it. There's no "ifs" "ands" or "buts". It's like saying if you chop a cow's head off you MIGHT get meat. Of course you'll get meat. Where would the meat go? Of course there might be more or less meat compared to when you decapitate other cows... But you'd still get meat none the less. If you swing your pick at a ore deposit, you should get ore... It shouldn't just magically disappear. Maybe come up with a custom item that's 1/2 of a piece of ore? or 1/4 or whatever fraction you want, or a whole piece of ore. So long as you get something out of the ore that's clearly there. 

 

On the upside, though, there are going to be less strip mines and I like the smaller respawn time.

Just pretend that the graphical representation of the ore is simply an interesting abnormality in the rock that looks like it may be an ore deposit. When you mine it, you find out that either, "Yes, it is one." or, "No, it is not one."

I did not see the poll, probably my fault for having rl issues come up.  I feel sad about not getting to vote.  However after seeing this in the news thread I went back and voted anyway since its still open.  
 
Personally I agree with the child aging debate on the fact its going to take too long to age the character.  There is only so much one can do as a child if they role play it correctly, and to be honest few do that. 
 
I've always aged my characters by the 1 week rl = 1 year in game since I started.  Its a great system and even when others were proposed personally didn't go for them.  I'll consider the new one, but since I don't have a rp child /yet/ I don't think it would be a problem personally.  That doesn't mean other children characters will enjoy this. 
 
 
The mining system is great and a good idea and keeps people from getting board when mining.  If there was some way to use command blocks to give the players a more intriguing random experience ( *wink* )
 
 
Everything else I completely agree with. 
 
 
I urge the staff to wait on this decision and let more people vote.. seeing that the votes were no where near what it should be for a server wide decision in my opinion.

1. Because it took time to make it, I had to make a separate plugin to handle percentage chance, otherwise the system wouldn't have worked.

 

2. Nope. It even stated in the OP that this is a temporary mining system. This isn't how skills are going to work, you're going to have to wait and see for that.

At this point not following it would be ignoring and potentially breaking lore, and although I respect your disagreement with the changes, whether or not you will follow it isn't a choice. Also, what you're saying is actually false. Having written the final clarification for elven aging myself, I know for a fact that elves are physically adults at age 20, NOT 50. Do note, however, that physically mature and culturally mature are different in elven socity, as although they are physically adults, they are not considered so until later on. With that being said, the time it takes to become an adult is something you should know before RPing a child character, and even so it takes 8 months maybe (little more than 17 IC years), not more than a year.

 

On top of this, you're completely ignoring how this system affects people that are already adults, which is a LARGE majority over the few child RPers. Even though 14 weeks may be slow, a human in this system still only has maybe a little less than a year to RP in their prime, and thus a shorter week would be unfair to them. Why should we cater to a very small population of child RPers if it means being detrimental to the rest of the server's RPers? On top of this, even the current length of a year is 12 days, so 14 days is not changing much at all. 

 

Sorry to say it man, but if you just choose to ignore this decision then you will face the consequences.

 

Oh and, we have a Your View section of the forums for a reason, so no it would not and should not have been put in the News forum. The most voters we've gotten that I've seen from a News poll was a little more than 200, so 142 is more than enough to get an estimated ratio on who wants what.
