Try a race that is more populated, like Humans, or Dwarves. Play within the faction, join the niche, make brand new friends. Participate in the events they plan, it's fun!

Stick with your character. Develop them well, but don't invent any life stories. Don't give them up after fifteen minutes. You gotta play with them a lot, you have to seek out people to RP with, and build up their life stories. Eventually, they will have a plethora of experiences...and what is best is that they all occurred to your char, not something you made up to make them special.
