***This information varies from race to race and depends greatly on whether a mixed race person was created in game or simply someone who wanted to try something new. This guide is to help those not having been born in game have an understanding of how their character might have been brought up and some of the obstacles they would face. As well as to give those born through roleplay, just some additional ideas on how to roleplay their half-whatever.*** Introduction Welcome to the mixed race guide! First off, to make it clear in case I use the words half breed during this guide: Halflings, Adunians, and Half breeds are very different (well not really but I don't want to get into them). Adunians and Halflings are their own race that has developed over time while half breeds, in this sense, are the outcoming of relations between two separate races. Choosing whether or not you want to be a half breed can be a hard decision. For new players, its not recommended, only for the fact that you have to know both cultures your mixing and be able to explain exactly why and how they were raised the way they are. From personal experience as well, i’ve noticed that other players usually are harsher when judging a new mixed breed player just because there is a stereotype/ cliche that appears with those that were not actually born through roleplay (I will cover this later). For those born through a roleplay relationship: good luck and have fun. It can be a definitely new experience and extremely tough at times but just play your child well and you shouldn’t have any issues other than the ones mentioned below. Common mistakes and warning The most important part of this guide~ This will be the most varied depending on the person and how they are RPed but these are some common mistakes I've seen from my time playing with the elves both as a pure elf and a mixed human/ elf, as well as things i’ve seen many new players do. Trying to be proud of being a mixed race, boasting about it then being surprised or even frustrated when you are shunned or killed. From a young age, most are taught to hide who they are and not bring it up in general conversation. If it’s noticeable due to physical characteristics, still lie. There are definitely ways to live a normal life if you simply don’t mention your mixed race-ness to everyone you meet. You’ll see quickly that if you aren’t waving the mixed race card in everyone’s face, they will not go out of their way to kill you. If you do, they will be forced to. Mixed Races are rare. Understand that it’s extremely rare through roleplay to actually have a mixed race individual. So really think to yourself on why you feel you need to be one. Is it to be different and special? Or is it to get a different type of roleplay? You will get the same basic roleplay from a group if you stick with a pure race and you will find that you are accepted more easily. How are they made? Half breeds, as stated before, are made when two distinct races come together to have children. The most common mixed breeds is humans and elves. Having a mixed race child is extremely rare due to huge culture different and how people are raised. Most of the time races are encouraged to stay separate and there can even be racism, such as a religious group of humans looking down on Dark Elves or a High Elf believing they are above humans (or other elf subraces) Remember to play the curses~ There are some that use being a mixed race as a way to get out of the race curse, feeling that they could pick and choose exactly how strong the curse is and even if they could pick which one they wanted. This isn't the case though. When you play a mixed race individual you get the best of both worlds. That means if you are half elf, half human. You get the human curse of a short life and the elven curse of infertility. If you play a human/ dwarf- you have a short life and are shorter and greedy. Being a half breed doesn't just mean getting both the curses though! It also means getting the good parts of the races, so keep that in mind when making your character. Hardships of growing up This is mostly for those that started their character as an adult. You must realize you didn't go through a perfect childhood, and there seems to be a few out there that seem to forget the racism that can be aimed at you. Attitudes- Also as a half breed trying to live in a pure society, there could be a lot of racism depending on where you are. Playing a mixed race you will most likely have faced racism and others looking down upon you for what you are. This is especially noticeable in elven and human societies since they are taught to look down upon the other race. At points you probably would have been ignored or even threatened for being a mix (if you are open about it). There can even be racism between the mix of subraces. This is mostly seen in elven culture and can be anything from being ignored to being a mixed high elf and being thrown into a pit of acid for how you were born. Growing up- This will mostly be helpful for those that are starting out as an older half breed since those growing up with a family on the server will have a different experience depending on where you are. For the most part you grow up as a normal child. Growing up as a half breed, you are foremost a normal child. You have a rebellious stage, loving parents (hopefully), and have normal, everyday child experiences that come with general child roleplay. That’s about when a child will start to look at others and compare the themselves. At first it would just be a slight confusion and wonder on how they could be different and as they grow older, it could turn into a few different things: accepting that they are indeed different and/or trying to fit in no matter what.
