  1. Would totally like to add that my phrasing of “useless magic” probably came across super ******* rude and that wasn’t my intention! I was speaking in terms of practical use and spell list (regardless of however many combative or non-combative spells there are). Mean that for the price it wasn’t worth it, at least not in my opinion. My other points, hopefully being taken constructively and just as my personal opinion, still stand! Apologies Archi if I sounded like a *****, just reading back through this and was like “yikes that comes across pretty rude”.
  2. This. Not super familiar with he said she said, or what they didn’t say, but nothing was really all the visually different from High Elves at all nor was I ever really faced with any sort of defining culture that set them apart from just being liberal High Elves; which you can just be without needing to be a whole subrace. Yes, the argument of Heartlander, Highlander, and Farfolk can be met with argument, but the point being made is that there are three distinct cultures that are vastly different from one another and are also met with apparent visual distinguishing factors. The point that’s trying to be made is that there isn’t anything in the visuals or strong enough unique culture that would be enough to really classify them as their own race from the Wood Elves, High Elves, and Dark Elves.
  3. Addition: 1000% believe Shade should be RP’d as a the CURSE it was intended to be. Similarly to the Frost Witches, someone should not WANT to be a Shade – an unwilling subject to at the mercy of their demon and Coven. Hell, make a list of 20 or so active roleplay traits to choose from that are all pretty awful or problematic to choose from and with each tier they develop a new defective trait. Don’t use basic things like “he’s insane xd” or “she basically becomes Harley Quinn”, but things like addiction to alcohol or lore approved drugs that has become a physical dependency, insomnia which has both physical and mental drawbacks under that umbrella, or mania for those that like to rp the more “i’m crazy teehee” aesthetic that is in fact realistic when done properly. I, as a former Shade player, have never agreed with the 5 slot behemoth that Shade has become with the little to no visible drawbacks for the rest of the community that made something of that size fair. Shade, in my eyes, is the magic under the Dark Arts umbrella that is meant to be the “combat magic” where using things like freeform tendrils(I suppose you could keep Caliginous Flames and minor environmental adjustments such as shadows, the lighting, etc to make things spooky) that were quite the powerful weapon in any close quarters scenario when defending themselves from those who’ve discovered their true nature. However, a GOOD Shade would have known that is the only time their magic should be used for combat, to ensure that their secret remains as such. The Shade’s entire goal is to eventually take the host body for itself, and that means they cannot get killed – so being stupid or careless at any point could mean endgame. Perhaps keep the PK clause? If they chose to not PK then the Shade simply is PK’d and they lose the MA?
  4. I like some of the drawbacks and downsides you proposed, but you mean to tell me this near absolutely useless magic outside of self roleplay development won’t also be circled jerked into obscurity? I understand that a lot of the people on this server think that their million layer onion characters “selfless” behavior to care about the character development of others at the sacrifice of themselves is fine and dandy – but, keep that for the Event Team. I don’t see why this needs to be a whole magic, especially an absolute breakdown of the most traditional Shade concepts. Shade magic NEEDS TO: lose Shade Gems lose its endgame(s) get stripped of its healing capabilities both major and minor for people that believe rping by yourself is providing some elevated service to LoTC; GREATLY increase the idea that the shade is a separate identity and personality from its host, another character. I personally always liked shade x other magic collaborations, make it 3 slots and base a lot of the magical roleplay around the new aesthetic and corrupted nature of those other 2 magics? tier 5 shades or shade fathers/mothers are the end result of an untreated problem, the shade has now snuffed out anything that resembled the person from before – this means loss of things like memories, but not their racial curse or physical illnesses. Just some ideas from someone who played a shade for quite a while and has actually been considering helping the current community with it if they were interested. I’m not totally “active”’ anymore due to my IRL circumstances, but I’m definitely invested in the Shade Lore and story as I am the Witches, so I hope this helps!

The disheveled hag does not sleep in her swamp. She sleeps anywhere, and everywhere, and nowhere. Sometimes all at once. The cavernous place where she now chooses to lay her body down for a few hours could hold a thousand fortresses. A veritable sea of pitch black water stretches from underground horizon to underground horizon. They are not the horizons of the tumultuous world above, but closer—much closer—to an entirely different kind of madness. She visits this place often, and always by herself, but she is never alone. Some called them demons. Some called them spirits. Regardless, the vast shadows that linger behind the veil of the mortal eye, to see such one could only dream. Ekatn checks in dutifully. Makes sure their bedding is comfortable. They must not awaken. She lost her eyes long ago, so it is her mind that traces their cavern. What she’s seen has always chilled her beyond the concerns of flesh and bone, so that she no longer shivers at the touch of ice against her skin. When she is down here, her blindness is a blessing. It is horror enough to feel their presence. To walk in their realm, even. To know what it is that awaits after this world. And so, she must keep them at bay. Horror has begun to stir. Ekatn sensed it with the last new moon, hoping against hope that it would settle itself once more—but now its apocalyptic desire squirms to be amongst the others, growing ever more restless. She removes her blindfold. Her tattered robes fall around her ankles, and she pads out across the murky lake, emptiness beyond. Ekatn splays her fingers across the surface. Her hair hangs over her face, hiding the lines of age, and the scarred ruin of her empty eyes. She learned long ago the secret ways to walk between realms, to traverse the impossible distances of this harsh reality in moments, back and forth a hundred times before each new dawn. Sometimes, she forgets where her physical body has been. Her mind drifts down, now, through the water. She muses briefly at the thickness.. To place the entire burden of faith upon glass is pure folly, and yet there is no other choice. On the other side, the Inferis is all hellfire and chaos and screaming, frustrated anticipation. It is bigger than a mountain. Is it one of the small ones? Ekatn hopes so. She has never dared probe the defenses of the largest—the ones that seem able to devour gravity and time itself, eaters of not only worlds, but entire planes of nightmares. They make her feel very small and insignificant, like a single mote of frost in a blizzard. She focuses on the great and terrible threats before her. A new sight becomes hers. Another Ekatn waits for her there, in the dreamscape. This ageless being towers behind a black sun, the strands of her hair floating into the heavens, her eyes whole, crystal-blue, and shining all with the celestial energies of the world’s final dawn. She is beautiful. She is a goddess. She is struggling to press the sun down below the horizon. The fiery black orb fights back, trying to rise again. It burns the goddess’ fingers. Life. Life is the key. The living souls of the realm, this place that Ekatn once longed to conquer using the very beasts below. She slithers from the vision, as gently as she can, and tries to soothe it with the croaking of toads. She’s reach into a pocket of her garbs to withdraw a small mason jar, a pair of eyes belonging to some sort of amphibian. She’s cradle the jar close to her heart and murmur with a horrified tremor in her voice. “My Lord… What is the meaning of this?” “Why have you not come for me?”
  9. “Banshee Queen..” the raggedy looking woman would mutter swiftly and frantically under her breath, as if afraid to be heart. Her hands rose to her eyes, she had grown used to no longer needing them concealed, but she’d always disguised the horrific scars that told story of how her sight was stolen. The woman looked about the bog as the swampy mud water dripped from her hair and face. The sound of a toad’s croak would come from her left side and would commence a symphony of toads to begin croaking along to the beat of a rather unenjoyable tune. She’d raise her left hand to slightly covet what remained of that eye as she’d call out into the gloomy swamp. Rain fell heavy from the sky, polluting the filthy pond with a deep red shade. As it landed upon her skin the woman winced as she’d make the attempt to rise to her feet, the toads’ croaking growing louder and louder as a once familiar crystalline blue flame began to rise from the water’s surface, engulfing the woman in moments and it was over as quickly as it was painless. A toad hopped away from the rock it was sat on just in time to dodge the foot that nearly crushed it. The same disheveled woman now walking barefoot down a rather muddy trail off into the night.

  11. The elfess would frown heavily as she’d turn towards the fireplace and stare in the flames roaring through the blackened wood. A heavy sigh escaped her as thoughts of her mother and her aunt would push themselves to the surface of her mind, nearly bringing her to tears. “When will they learn? The Shades are nothing but trouble! The people you once knew become nothing more than a husk for those vile parasites... A shame to see people still falling into that trap.”
  12. “Gehenna? That’s weird... My Aunt used to talk about a place she called Gayhenna back in the day, but surely it’s just a coincidence?” The wildly confused Amorette would inquire whilst shifting her gaze to Keledan, who sat across from her on the balcony of their estate in Tor Eldar.

  16. Certainly in love with this lore. Miss my Naztherak, but this adds a way to mix elements of both Alchemy and Naztherak while removing anything concrete so that if Naztherak is to return, it can cohesively move in the same direction. Lovely work as usual, Mordu! +1
  17. As someone who’s had Seer back when it was just a Feat and still has it as such I’ll add into this discussion. In terms of not fitting into the theme of Azdrazi, it almost entirely does. Azdrazi are meant to soak in knowledge and Dragons themselves are meant to be beings of all kinds of knowledge – Malghourn with Blood Magic, Mordring with the undead, etc. If anything these abilities really shouldn’t be strictly locked to one magic as there are plenty of magics that would be allowed to do things like that AND Seer only just recently changed up its dynamic to be this type of aesthetic and have these abilities. They aren’t ideas new to Seer, I even tried to write in the stuff regarding Languages into Frost Witches and it was met with positive LT response.
