Hegathe Anton look around at the few mages that made up the college with a serious look, and then smiled, “Well, we did it.” Smiles and cheers went up from around the room from the few mages, “We finally figured out how to stop the magic they’re using to sink the ships. There is still a long way to go before we figure out how to use this magic ourselves, but for now let us accept this small victory and celebrate it while we can.” When Cartos heard the news, he sighed in relief. Finally, it might be possible for them to get the attack underway. However, there was still much work left to be done in preparation. “Endon,” he said to his cousin as they sat around the table and their council meeting, “Dispatch a diplomat to meet with Daggerfall. Inform them that we have found the location of the hideout, are preparing to find out all the information we can on them, and request their help.” “Cartos,” Anton called out, “if it’s all the same to you, I believe we need to train our two newest pupils in order to advance their understanding of the magical arts.” “Very well, hold your research for now, we maybe be able to learn more about this magic once we capture the mages,” Cartos agreed. “Well then, I will try to get as much information out of them as possible,” Derik said as he rose from his chair “I’ll make preparations.” With that, the council set out, each man now with a mission. AP: 0 AP Hegathe eagerly awaits the diplomats to arrive from Gilane and hold diplomatic talks. 1 AP Hegathe is sending a diplomat under the protection of two Master mages and 50 armed guards to meet with Daggerfall and have another diplomatic meeting. 1 AP Hegathe’s mage college is going to begin trying to instruct the novice mages to improve their understanding of magic, under the combined teachings of the 3 mages currently there, and the other 2 upon their return 2 AP Hegathe is going to begin interrogating the captured pirates to get as much information out of them as possible. They will make the promise to each man that, if their information proves true and the men of Hegathe return alive, they will be set free. If it proves false, or the men do not return, each of them will be executed. During this time, all prisoners are to be kept separate and completely out of contact with all others.

Hegathe The five grand mages of Hammerfell sat gathered around in the Mage’s college, looking down at a great many scrolls and books. “There has to be something in here,” muttered one of them. “Yes, of course. It has to be magic, but then why don’t we know of it?” asked another. “Well,” Anton said as he addressed the other four “it’s time we figure that out. For too long, the pirates have killed using their magic. Now, we strike back. All resources have been funneled into our research to figure this out.” The other four mages looked around and then nodded. “The two novices new to the college shall do what they can to aid us as well, hopefully learning something along the way,” Anton continued, "If we can figure out the secrets behind this magic, we would undoubtedly become the greatest mage’s college to have ever existed.” With those final few words, the seven mages of the college dove deep into their work to try and figure out the secrets behind the suspected pirate’s ocean magic. AP: 4 AP Hegathe would continue to press into the matter of the sinking ships examining the magic aspects and attempting to discover what kind of magic is being used and, if possible how they could use it as well or combat it.

Hegathe “Hmm, this is most troubling,” Endon muttered as he looked out from his home at Hegathe. He stood out on a balcony, casting his gaze out to the sea as his wife played behind him with his two kids. “The sea… turns against us for some reason,” Endon muttered to himself. He knew it was true, though odd. For some reason, every time they tried to capture a ship the sea swallowed it. This was most unusual and tough to figure out. However, there had to be some reason behind it. He then turned away from his balcony and started pinning letters, which read as follows. “Priests, Mages, and Scholars of Hegathe. I call upon you now to solve a great problem our nation has been faced with. The sea itself seems to have turned against us and now sinks any ship we try to capture. I cannot explain this, thus I reach out and ask you to solve this problem. Figure out what’s causing it and what we can do to stop it.” -Lord Endon These letters would then be sent out throughout the realm to the any priest, mages, or scholars in the realm to figure out. AP: 0 AP Hegathe would continue to wage war against the pirates using the same tactics with which they have seen success before and not boarding the ships. 2 AP Hegathe would begin trying to figure out why its ships were being swallowed up by the ocean. 1 AP Hegathe would begin advertising its mages college in hopes of drawing in new and aspiring mages, or those that previously did not have a place to call their own. 1 AP Hegathe would begin rebuilding the ships it lost, plus any additional warships that could be manufactured.

Hegathe “What?” Cartos exclaimed in rage. “You’re telling me that only a dozen guys without any weapons or armor managed to overwhelm dozens of our men with armor and weapons?” The officer would only nod before speaking, “Yes sir, it appears their magic can manipulate the oceans, as well as render our troops utterly braindead and unable to correctly respond in situations that even a six-year-old could figure out.” Cartos sighed, “Good gods… We cannot let this go unanswered.” “So sir, shall we ready the men to attack their hideout?” asked the officer with an uneasy look on his face. “Heavens no,” Cartos replied, “They’re expecting us to come to their base and we’ll get slaughtered. No, instead we’re going to do just what we’ve been doing, except this time we’re going to outsmart them.” “Ok, and how do we do that?” asked the officer. “Easy really,” admitted Cartos, “We storm their ship, they think we’ll make the same mistakes, then we slaughter them all.” The officer’s eyes widened, “Slaughter them? After they’ve surrendered.” “Yes,” Cartos stated gravely, “While it will indeed be tough and goes against everything we believe in, they slaughtered our men after they themselves surrendered. We will give them no quarter in return.” “But sir, what if we did something else instead to ensure they didn’t escape?” suggested the officer. “What might that be?” asked Cartos. “Chain them all together,” stated the officer, “and then chain each man independently to the floor at the bottom of the ship. One sign of the same thing happening again, a mage uses one lightning spell on the chain, they all perish.” Cartos thought over the plan and then slowly nodded, “Yes, agreed. Ensure that is done and get me back my ships.” “Understood, sir.” the officer stated, “We will await your orders." Military Plan: Two of Hegathe’s supply ships will sail with 50 sailors on board each ship, 50 soldiers, and 2 mages. The two ships will sail together around the area the pirates are known to raid. The same strategy as before will be deployed where they are to appear as simple trade ships before soldiers spring out and demand the surrender of the other crew. Failure to do so shall report in their deaths. All members of the other crew are then to be taken, disarmed, and chained together with one long chain with shackles with each man then being independently chained to the bottom of the ship. One sign of mutiny or of the ocean attacking them, and one of the mages on board the ship will send a strong lightning spell out to kill all of them. Should the mages be occupied at another ship, soldiers will remain stationed down at the bottom and kill all the captives at the first sign of mutiny or the first sign the ocean may be attacking them. At most in one trip the ships will take on 40 prisoners and capture 2 other ships. Any other pirates encountered will be executed unless they are for some reason of vital importance. Upon capturing the ships, the crews, military, and wizards will be divided as evenly as possibly among the current ships and sail back straight for Hegathe. Any other ships captured are to be left to drift. AP: 3 AP Hegathe is going to continue to hunt down pirates around Daggerfall using the following plan. 1 AP Hegathe will be rebuilding the two trade ships they lost alongside any more military ships they are able to put produce.

Hegathe “What next?” Cartos exclaimed in frustration as he looked at the map of Hammerfell, focusing in on Hegathe and Sentinel, “We’ve tried to go over the road. We’ve tried to outflank them in the south. Where the hell are we supposed to go to get in?” The other three members of the King’s Council sat quiet before Endon walked over and looked at the map. “Well, since I’m assuming that the coast is out of the question,” Endon started, “I think there’s only one way left to try.” Cartos glared at Endon, then down at the map before he loudly sighed. “Damned mountains…. So, shall we begin preparing an expeditionary force?” Just then, a diplomat barged into the room. “My liege,” he declared, “I return with news from Daggerfall.” Cartos looked at him for a moment, half tempted to kick him out, but instead said, “Alright, let’s hear this news.” The diplomat nodded before he began. “I have returned from Daggerfall with plenty of opportunity present. After meeting with their representatives, I was able to secure a non-aggression pact with them, and from the way they spoke, it did not sound like a defensive alliance was all too far out of our reach,” The diplomat paused for a moment, before continuing. "However, in order to do this, we must take care of a problem for Daggerfall, which will undoubtedly become an issue for us. Pirates, they have been attacking ships, mainly by boarding them or running them aground. Fortunately, most of their ships only carry crews of twelve or fifteen from reports." Cartos nodded to the man and dismissed him before turning to Endon, Derik, and Anton. “The choice here, is clear.” “Yes,” Derik said in agreement, “For now, we must protect our assets, and our allies.” “Good,” Cartos said in agreement, “Mobilize the reserves.” Military Plan: Hegathe is now going to be manning it’s 10 supply ships with an additional 500 men from the army reserve. Fifty men will be put onto each of these ships. These men are to be hidden on the supply ships, with 30 men being armed with armor and melee weapons and 20 more wielding archer equipment. On half of the boats are the five Master mages. In addition, the men on board have all been equipped with the supplies so as to make boarding the pirate ships possible. The plan from this point was simple, have the merchant ships sail around the southern coast of Daggerfall in order to attempt to capture the pirate ships. Once being spotted, the merchant ships would begin making a run for it, slowly being run down by the pirate ships. Upon them arriving within range, the merchant ship would turn and the men would rush out, showing their full military might, immediately demanding a surrender by throwing down their arms. If they failed to surrender, archers would immediately open fire on the ship in order to kill the crewmen on board. If that didn’t work or they were boarded or forced to board, melee forces would engage the enemy. Upon the destruction surrender being met, survivors would be captured and taken prisoner to be interrogated in Hegathe. All equipment would be confiscated and taken back to Hegathe. The enemy ship would be captured and taken back to Hegathe, escorted by the ship which captured it. Aboard the ship with the mages, the jobs of the mages will be to open fire at range and burn the ships if they try running, use spells to immobilize, incapacitate, or kill the enemy if they attempt to combat the ship, and heal all those who are in need of it. Upon capture of the enemy, all prisoner will be taken back to Hegathe and interrogated to find out what they know. AP: 2 AP Hegathe is going to rally, arm, and deploy 500 reservist forces into service aboard the 10 trade ships in the manner described above. 2 AP Hegathe is going to begin interrogating any captured prisoners to discover the base of their piracy operation.

Hegathe At one of the garrisoned spots along the Hegathe/Sentinel border, a few troops looked out across the border from their post. “You know,” chimed in one soldier, “I really wish we knew what was going on over there. I don’t mind be stationed here and all, but I just wish we knew what to expect.” The other soldier nodded in agreement, “I know. We have no way of knowing whether they are assembling an army against us or just have a few guards in place.” Meanwhile, in the capital, a group of approximately 102 men and many more camels were preparing for a journey across the desert to sneak one lone man into Sentinel. The mission was of the highest priority, so among so men in this convoy were men 40 men trained in fighting melee on horseback, another 50 trained in archery on horseback, and ten which served as guides through the desert. Although camels were different, everyone was sure they could manage well enough. On top of that there was a Reguard by the name of Falion, the leading mage in Hegathe in the school of restoration. He would ride along to heal any that were injured or provide healing if the group were to be attacked along the way. Finally, came the spy. His goals were simple, find out what the population and military might of Sentinel is, and anything else that may be of use. The caravan would follow the path on an old map in order to outmaneuver the mountains and harsh terrain which they presumed Sentinel would rely on as a natural barrier. Above all else, it was vital that the spy remember one thing if he got caught. If he got captured, he would not reveal where he came from, but he would simply tell his captors that failure to release him would lead to harsh consequences. The caravan would return in a few months after drop off to recollect him with the information he had gathered. Finally, in the harbors of Hegathe, a lone diplomat stood with a small handful of a dozen guards around him. He watched as the masts of the trade ships coming from Daggerfall slowly made their way up and up on the horizon as more of the ships came into view. He had a simple mission, which was to try and get Daggerfall to open up to more negotiations and diplomacy. AP: 2 AP Hegathe is going to lead an expedition through the desert to sneak a spy into Sentinel. In order to do this, they’re going to try and avoid the mountains. The plan is for the group to come back after 2 months and collect any information the agent has gathered on Sentinel. 1 AP Hegathe is sending an spy into sentinel to gather information on the situation in Sentinel in regards mainly to its population and military. 1 AP Hegathe is going to send a diplomat into Daggerfall to try and open up a greater diplomatic ties than simply a trade deal.

Hegathe Cartos walked into the Mage’s College and glanced around all the few students that were gathered there. He nodded in approval before moving on and quickly running into someone. “Ah, Anton, just the man I was looking for,” Cartos said as he approached a Brenton, who was currently sitting at his desk writing down some script. Anton glanced an eye up at Cartos and asked “May I help you?” “In fact, I believe you can,” Cartos stated, “Anton, the council needs you.” Anton set down his quill back in the ink well and looked up to Cartos, crossing his arms, “Oh, and why is that?” “Because,” Cartos replied, “We can’t just keep running out country without the advice of the Mages. Now that we’re helping to build the college, more people will undoubtedly come here to study magic, which as you know is a very powerful art.” Anton sneered “Of course it is, but why should I take my time to come and sit on your council?” Cartos glared at Anton for a moment, before speaking. “Anton, this is a serious matter. Each day more and more rumors float in. Rumors which, if proven true, could have disastrous consequences in our future. We need the advice and aid of the mages in order to properly run everything and survive. Besides, if we fall, the college alls as well.” Anton sighed and look off into the distance for a moment, before returning his gaze to Cartos, “So then, when is our next meeting?” AP: 2 AP Hegathe will be rounding up, domesticating, and training Hammerfell Camels to be used for various purposes around Hegathe. 1 AP Hegathe is going to put more resources into the further construction of the Mage’s College. 1 AP Hegathe is once more sending a diplomat to Gilane in an attempt to open up a diplomatic line of communication with the province. In order to coax Gilane into doing so, a small gift of gold is to be presented to them.

Hegathe Cartos slammed his fist down onto the table. “Damn them all, except Daggerfall,” he exclaimed, “Do they not realize what we have to offer?” “Perhaps,” Derik mused, “Or possibly we simply haven’t tried hard enough.” “Maybe,” Cartos admitted, “but it bothers me. We know nothing about how their nations work or if there is anything we can do. We have to expand our borders. We must get more people to join us if we hope to survive.” “What of us not being able to find Stros M’Kai?” Endon asked, puzzled, “Should we have the mages begin looking into that?” “Perhaps,” speculated Derik, “perhaps we should invite the most senior of them to join our council.” “A very good idea,” Endon agreed, “but we must not forget about our internal affairs. We have a supply of conundrum. If we are able to find iron as well, we will have all the materials we need to begin producing steel. Not only would this be useful for military affairs, but will give us better equipment.” “Alright, well then let us accomplish all of this,” Cartos stated as he glanced over to his father and cousin. AP 1 AP Hegathe is going to send an agent into Gilane. Upon entering, he will disguise himself among the common folk and learn what he can about the province. 1 AP Hegathe is going to attempt to find iron deposits to mine inside of their province. 1 AP Hegathe is going to send another agent to slip into Wayrest from the ocean side. Upon entering the nation, the agent will attempt to find out what he can about the province. 1 AP Hegathe will begin construction on a Mage’s college in order to spread the learning of magic throughout the lands. As of right now, classes will be based out of a makeshift headquarters.

Hammerhold/Hegathe Blades struck as Cartos quickly threw up a shield in defense. He rapidly trades blow with his adversary as the clashing of metal could be heard throughout the area. Finally, Cartos was able to hit his shield against the man just right, sending him falling to the ground before finding a sword hovering above him. “Very good,” spoke the Master-At-Arms as he took Cartos’s hand and lifted himself up. “Still could use some work, but not bad.” By this point, dueling had become a normal part of Cartos’s routine. He was determined to push his skills beyond what any had ever seen. Why? Well, Cartos didn’t really know. It just seemed like a very useful skill to have. Cartos sat at a small table. Around it were his father, Derik, and his cousin, Endon. Together, the three men now ruled the realm. “Father, cousin, it is of vital importance that we expand our borders,” Cartos stated to Endon and Derik, “In order for our province to survive, we must grow our population in order to defend against those that wish to do us harm and bring stability to our neighbors.” “I thoroughly agree,” said Derik as he nodded in agreement with Cartos, “Though we may face the possibility of war, the possibilities of further war against rising powers are far more dangerous.” “So then, I suppose we shall send diplomats to deal with the nearby provinces?” asked Endon as he raised a brow. “Yes, that seems like the best option right now,” Cartos replied, “As well as sending in agents in order to get other assessments.” “Now, as for taxes, I think we will be getting those handled quite nicely,” Endon stated, “We will levy light taxes against most of the populous, internal trade, and imports. Let us see just how far we can get based off of the income provided by our mines and trade fleet.” Breakdown Hammerhold shall be sending some men to Stos M’kai, Gilane, Sentinel, Daggerfall, Camlorn, Wayrest in order to negotiate with these provinces or whatever may preside there. For the first round of negotiations, the focus will mainly be on opening up diplomatic lines and garnering favor with the nations. Diplomats will attempt to find out if there is anything that any of the provinces needs or has troubles with, and find out if there is anything which Hammerhold can do to aid them. Hammerhold will also see attempt to find out what valuable resources they may have and discover if there is any trading they could do to bring more money into Hammerhold, whether that be importing much needed resources to Hammerhold, exporting resources to the province for a profit, or discovering an excess of a resource in one province and demand for it in another, and then buying from one and selling to another. Hammerhold will also be sending agents to Stos M’kai, Gilane, Sentinel, Daggerfall, , Camlorn, Wayrest in order to find out more information which might be harder to find out from governing bodies. First of all, agents will try to discover how stable the province is and whether it is unified, somewhat unified, or completely fractured and war-torn. They will then focus on discovering or getting rough estimates of the population of the province. Following that, they will then attempt to discover things such as resources available (mainly iron), military capability, general armament of the military, and if there is any unrest amongst the populous. Hammerhold is also searching for a source of iron for which to begin forging steel from so that it may better arm its army. Hammerhold will also issue light taxes against imports, the citizens, and internal trade. Now, I don't particularly have a problem with most of these items. Then again I'm not a big time PVPer so I'm mostly just speaking off of experience from war claims. Now, I don't think most of those items are a major problem. They've been around for a while now and sure, they're powerful as they should be. Most of those items are single usage items. If you spend months making TNT, then you know that after the battle you're about to go into you're probably not going to have any left. Same with alchemist fires and smokes whispers. Stoneskin lasts longer but is in the same boat too where it's a 1 time use. Barbed arrows I don't have much of a problem with either as they are effective and make archers a relevant strategy against people running around in plate armor. Protection and Sharpness can be certainly be a game changer if one side has it and another doesn't, but if you have enchanters I don't think they are all that tough to acquire if you prepare, though I'm not an enchanter myself so I don't know. Diamond armor I wouldn't say needs to be removed. I remember earlier in the map and back in Vailor when diamond armor was incredibly rare and hard to come by. Honestly, it should have stayed that way. By making it a recipe just like any other carbarum weapons it became much easier to obtain, which I don't particularly care for considering the massive advantage which it gives whoever uses it. This isn't a single use item either. It's an essentially permanent buff to whoever has it. Next map, I would say fix what was done wrong. Remove diamond armor recipes and limit it to caskets like it was. However, as of right now I would say it should be left alone. Don't end war claims or something stupid just because the Flays can steamroll the server. They played their cards right and came out on top, and props to them. Don't punish them for being smart about what they did. Now, I say this all knowing that, as an enemy of the flays, the next few months will be hell. Not only do they have a strong concentration of a lot of the servers best PVPers, but they also have enough gear that they can essentially do what they like until next map knowing no one can stop them. However, I repeat again, I do not think they should be punished for this. I do not think this should happen next map, but let this map be as it is and maybe we can all learn a thing or two from it.

Bastion Curthose would sigh upon coming across a flier. "A truly sad day," Bastion would mutter as he tore down the flier, crumbling it up in his hand, "taking civilians and selling them into slavery like true barbarians with their backs to God. May these men perish in the unholy fires of Hell for trying to justify a wrong with another wrong." -
"The Rutherns must truly be absolute fools if they expect anyone to believe that Edward Roswell drew a blade on a group of men outnumbering himself unless it was clear that his life was in immediate danger," Harold Baruch remarks as he reads something which must have been penned by a six year old, "This is nothing short of an act of aggression and vial usurpation by the Rutherns. May God's wrath descend upon those parties involved in this, and may they know that come judgement day, their Lord shall remember."

Great to know war claims will still probably be garbage and we all might disconnect or wait 3 hours for the war claim to actually happen, but at least the developers are hard at work ensuring we can all do drugs in a medieval based fantasy roleplaying game. 10/10 (plz don't ban me)

Not to mention the time when Adelard von Brandt took over Halsworthy even though he brought no men with him. Even after Courland once again rose to fight the Empire. Bastion would come across the letter. After reading it, he would head home and write a letter in response. “Interesting how an outsider views this conflict. The slaughter of innocents and destruction of good never seemed to faze anyone when it was Oren that was doing the killing. I don’t remember any Orenians even disagreeing when Oren marched into Riga to slaughter and rob everyone there, regardless of age, gender, or involvement in the war Furthermore, it is apparent you only choose to hear the cries you want to hear. Did you not believe that Courland wanted to continue existing? What of stability, who aside from anarchists don’t desire such a thing? Now you expect the Coalition to respect Oren’s wishes to continue existing as a nation, even though that would surely mean that a major threat would lie to the existence of all nations that now rise against them? You call for peace at any cost. The only way there will be peace now is peace through strength. Finally, when did you ever care about the chaos of the Courlandic peoples? Did anyone care that many of them died after being removed from there homes? Did others care while many were hunted down and slaughtered like cattle? Finally, were there any in Oren who didn’t laugh as a small handful of old Courlanders, racked by starvation and sickness, trudged their way back into Oren when their heads hung low? No. The Coalition is offering you people nearly an entire year to figure out where you will go and what you will do, far more than Oren ever gave anyone.”

[Event Team 2.0] Lore Competition
Lsuvsfar replied to firespirit44's topic in News & Announcements Archive
The Isle of the Haunted http://imgur.com/a/u9esh Off the coast of Lorraine, there sits a massive island, known simply as the Isle of the Haunted. To those seeking fortune, this isle has long been a beacon for treasure and adventure. While some make it back with bags full of interesting treasures and gold, more still never leave the island, falling for its trap. Long ago, before the people of Vailor had arrived, there was a small band of beings. No one can say exactly what they were, for that is beyond knowledge. However, what we do know is whoever these people were, they knew about this island and deemed that going there would be a great idea. Fools? Maybe. Who knows, maybe at that time the island isn’t what it is now. Regardless of that, the one thing we do know, is that it was a mistake. These people arrived, presumably hoping to settle the island and making a little place of their own. Unbeknownst to them, this place would be their permanent residence. Not long after arriving, their ship sunk close by the island. With no way off the island, people grew desperate. What killed them to us is a mystery. Maybe at that time the Isle of the Haunter was filled with mindless undead and monsters like it is today. Maybe it wasn’t that, and they died trying to make a new ship, finding that the trees of the island are unusually tough and massive, making the efforts of all but the strongest, most determined lumberjacks in vain. It also could have been that they discovered the massive trees of the island ate up all the sunlight, killing whatever crops they tried to grow, ultimately causing them to starve to death. Whatever the reasoning was, they died. http://imgur.com/a/eaRvO For a long time after that, the isle remained undisturbed. As the corpses of the foolish settlers sat there rotting, the darkness which permeates the isle caused their corpses to again rise, causing the population of mindless undead to skyrocket. To any adventurers before the people of Vailor arrived, the task of setting up shop on the isle was clearly something too daunting for them. However, finally the people of Vailor arrived in Axios. While most still chose to avoid this island, some brave souls saw the riches and went there. Upon adventuring there, they would find many an odd thing, such as the souls of those who came before beckoning them further into the forest, like sirens. Dark magicians had clearly found an interest in the island at one point, leaving many odd relics around that adventurers over the years have stumbled across. Treasure troves could also be found in secluded parts of the island, likely left there by the pirates of old whom never managed to return for their hidden riches and trinkets. While the isle may seem like a walk in the park if you have a few magicians and a seasoned company of warriors, be warned. The darkness there encompasses the island, thicker than even the darkest darkness if the most hidden of caves. While it is unknown what effects the darkness exactly has, one thing is truly known of it. The darkness wants nothing to do with people, and will do many things to ensure that the grasp of any person, regardless of species, nobility, religion, or magic affinity. All those that step foot on the island will face the darkness, and only the most cunning will have the chance to do so again.- 26 replies

What. This is a meme. Why are you posting it in the roleplaying section? I get you hate us grid, but it doesn't mean you can't post this in the right section.
