The New And Improved Forum Rules

 Share

Recommended Posts

Ayup LoTC!

After a lengthy discussion and a lot of work, myself and the moderating team have adjusted and adapted the forum rules. This is simply because we felt the previous rules were missing some key features and some items could be worded differently. I hope this makes it easier for you all to follow and if you have any questions, queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me - I’ll be happy to help :)

~~~~~~~~~~
1. No racist or abusive material is to be posted at any time to any player or member of staff - It is not necessary or needed.
2. Under no circumstances is pornographic material or material of an adult content to be posted. Any material posted of this nature will warrant a permaban with no chance of appeal or leniency.
3. Do not post material that infringes copyright laws or material that is illegal in any way. On top of this, do not plaigerise any other person’s work (be they player or internet user!)
4. Do not link material that may/will cause harm to other people’s computers  - It’s not cool!
5. Swearing is not to be directed at anyone at any time. Ever. Not only is it rude but it is highly offensive. Keep swearing to a minimum and remember to keep it tasteful and within context in RP threads - just like the server.
6. Do not double post. Adding posts after your post is classed as spam and will earn a warn.  On top of this, spamming of any nature; be that in posts or status updates are not permitted. If you need to change your post or add something, then use the edit button! It’s a lot easier than making an entirely new post!
7. Do not bump topics without a good reason - It can cause spam! :(
8. As the rule above, do not “necro” old threads. Once a thread is gone, it’s gone. It’s not coming back. RIP.
9. Do not make a post just to correct other people - That’s not nice.
10. Do not, under any circumstances; troll, flame, cause trouble or behave inappropriately.
11. Please write in English on the forums and do not use “txt l1k3 dis”. It keeps it easier for everyone to read and understand. The only exception to this is in the role-play section if the language is appropriate to the character or race.
12. “Backseat moderating” is against the rules. This means doing the job of a moderator when you’re not in a moderating position. Please allow us to take care of things within the community - it’s what we’re there for! :)
13. Do not personally attack any person or group of persons of the community, no matter what positions or ranks they may hold. We’re all here for the same reason and we’re a community! Let’s just have fun!
14. Criticism is helpful and helps us advance in all aspects. If you are going to provide criticism to another player, make sure it is in a constructive way. If there is any attempt to belittle a player or have an overall destructive manner you will be punished.
15. Do not advertise other forums or servers on the forums unless you have moderator permission and evidence of this to support it.
16. Causing unnecessary drama on the forums is not mature or needed. Any unnecessary drama caused will be dealt with severely. This is simply because drama isn’t fun for anyone.
17. When a warn status of 10 is reached, you will be banned from the server and if need be, teamspeak. If you cannot conduct yourself appropriately on the forums, how can you conduct yourself appropriately in-game?
18. Making a new account to evade a ban is unacceptable and will result in a perma-ban, regardless of the previous reason for the original ban or warn status. Don’t do the crime if you don’t want to do the time!!!
19. In the roleplay section, you must remain in character at all times, like in game.  If you need to speak in ooc, please make sure it is appropriate and put the information in brackets with a spoiler at the END of your RP post. For example...
((le ooc stuff lalalala))
This is not needed when posting youtube links to "set the mood"
20. Ignorance is no excuse, at all. The use of the term “I didn’t know the rules” will not slide and if you did not make yourself aware of the rules to begin with, that is your own fault. Please make yourself familiar with the rules and if you’re not sure on something, ASK!!! :)
21. Writing all in capital letters can be constituted as flame. Please do not do it unless it is in an rp thread. It’s just manners :)
22. Try and post in the right section and the right format. I understand sometimes things may fall into many categories but if you’re stuck, just send a PM to a Forum Moderator or GM. It’s far better in the long run and keeps things tidy!!
23. Try and keep your signature size on the small side. This is simply because if you have a lengthy signature it can take a while to scroll and can clog up a page. Keep it nice and neat in a handy spoiler ;)
~~~~~~~~~~

At any given time, these rules may be changed or added to by the appropriate member of the moderating team (e.g. Myself or a GM related to the forums) or any admin. This is simply due to the fact that sometimes, we can’t remember everything we do (I’m only human!!!). Failure to abide by these rules will earn you a warn or harsher punishment. When your warn status reaches 10, you will be perma-banned on the forums and in game (maybe even teamspeak depending on the circumstances). The reason for this is simply if you can’t comply with the forum rules, how can you comply with the rules in game? It’s only fair you abide by both.

That being said, I have every faith that now, since all of you have seen this, you can follow them!

Again, as above, any questions or worries then please contact me. I’ll be happy to help.

Happy roleplaying and have an ace day

Ta Ta for now! :)

Edit: Sorry for the spam. I've just never done that before :)

IN any case, this is an example of what not to do!

On to the main topic of this post...

I think that this rule is kind of meaningless when many adds that appear quite frequently aren't all that g-rated, if you know what I mean. Perhaps this should apply to advertising on this site as well... just my two cents.

Good job Gemmy, very nicely written. Hope this will clarify things for some people going forward.

So would a member be given a warning point for double-posting if they accidentally click the "Post" button twice, causing the same post to be repeated? This usually occurs on mobile devices.

Edit: Thanks for the swift reply, Gemmy, and great job with the post!

Not at all. Usually it's easy to tell when this has happened due to lag or whatever and no warn will be handed out for this. It's if it is intentional.

24. The usage of smiley faces on official server posts published by the staff is highly frowned upon.

Question about the bumping rule, concerning my streaming thread if I was to bump it every new day I start streaming would that be considered okay? ONly once I begin not in the middle I plan to use statues for that :p

Is there a rule to clarify Forums Names, which may be seen as either Trolly, Offensive, etc... or does this infridge with the other rules?

This is because recently there have been a case or two regarding people with names that were not deamed appropriate.

I think clearing your cookies/cache should help prevent these ads from appearing. Maybe cut down on the PG-13+ sites too, since ads are based on browsing history and cookies. ;)

OMG ADVERTISING BAN BAN BAN I personally don't mind this at all since it's not really spamming. I think other people would say that the status bar is a better way of doing this though.

I'll ask around and I'll give you an answer. :)

The advertising shown on lotc are ad servers that base the content that they show to you on what you have been watching. So if you're seeing adult adds it's because you've been looking at too many things related to that.

These rules should be revised. It seems like half of them are what you want to happen and not what can be enforced. Differentiating rules and expectations is key, because according to this a lot of people have the potential to be banned from not only the forums but the game in general. Rule number 17 seems grossly unfair and it sounds like you are attacking the community directly instead of laying down the code of conduct. The overuse of exclamation points and emoticons makes it difficult for me to take this serious.

Edit: Honestly, it makes me want to avoid the forums altogether for anything excluding applications.

I believe the 10 warns points has always been a rule. It isn't very hard to abide by the rules.
