The Ignoble Invasion

Papers can be found around Oren, they are handwritten on simple paper, and unsigned.

For the people, I will give plain words.

In the time of Godfrey and Horen V, humanity prospered and reached across the horizon. It fostered the growth of citzen-projects and cultural development. However, when the Emperor Horen V sailed away with his militaries and kin to spread the word of the Creator, Oren was left without a true leader. Under William III, the weakened and disorderly Oren broke into five kingdoms by the scheming of the dwarven Grand-King, who encouraged and protected nobles who broke from William’s weakening rule.

For many years we were subjected to the humiliating laws of the empire of Urguan, and our cultural identity was slowly lost under their control. It was only under the Carrion banner that the human race was freed from the shackles of dwarven persecution, and reunited into a single state under the wise rule of Siegmund Carrion. It is under his rule that the great urban planners, Tuv the Bastard and Joseph Lane, revitalized and remodeled the city of Abresi. It is under his rule that countless corrupt nobles were expelled from Oren for stealing land and minas from the common-man. It is under his rule that the Imperium of Oren became the first human state with the prosperity of the people first in the minds of its rulers.

These “royal rebels” and their allies commit a crime against the human race. The Tarus rebels not only destabilize the otherwise effective and prosperous Carrion dynasty, but also pledge to revert the humans to being slaves to the dwarven oppressors that we so recently rid ourselves of. They scheme to replace the True Faith with the heretical dwarven religion, to erect statutes of the dwarven emperor in your cities, and to give away your homeland to the tyranny of a mad king.

Further, do not let the title of “Grand-King” fool you. The dwarven emperor intends to reclaim the lost lands of Urguan’s empire, extending their heresies and tyranny across the length of Anthos. That any man would subject not only himself, but his countrymen, to the rule of a foreign empire just for the cold weight of a crown upon his head? This is the mark of a power-hungry snake, who slithers through the green fields of prosperity, causing disorder and panic, so that he might only take for himself the little morsel within.

This snake, Slade Tarus, wants his crown but cares not for the people. His followers are the deposed and frivolous nobility that the Carrions have done us such a favor in removing, and the false-knights of the Teilarian mockery. He does not have the backing of the people of our great nation, he has the backing of short heretics, power-hungry nobility, and fools. Slade Tarus launches no “royal rebellion”, he launches an ignoble invasion. Do you want this sort of snake wearing the imperial crown?

Fight for your homes, fight for your family and your friends, fight for your possessions, and fight for the freedom of humanity.

Chop off the snake’s head.

Wilsonn cheers as he once hated the Winters but now finds a place in his heart for them. "Yes and who really wants to be ruled by dwarves and sliverblades, that ally themselves with elves. elves."

Adelmar chuckles to himself.

"I wonder, does the Church of the One True Faith truly follow the Creator, or is it another attempt to justify the false and heretic behaviors of Oren's current leaders..."

Slade reads one of the papers and speaks to his son Charles will shaking his head.

"They still don't realize the true reason for this rebellion. Promise me lad that you will make it clearer than I have, the grounds on which we stand for this rebellion. Lead the Kingdom with honor and humility. Keep in mind though, that you can't run the Kingdom yourself. Surround yourself with wise men and the council of your brothers. Make this Kingdom what I always hoped it would be."

Charles looks into his father's eyes and sees the passion he holds for the Kingdom and its people.

"I will father. Your legacy will live on for generations."

*Lord Ailred Ruthern receives one of the letters from a Sea-Strelt. He quickly reads it while drinking some Carrion Blackin the Dreadfort. He then laughs in agreement,

turning to one of his most trusted followers, Captain Tiberius, and handing him the letter*

"Da. The damn rebels don't even have a reason to fight. House Carrion has done everything for the better of Oren. Unlike most Houses they started at the bottom, and went step by step to get where they are today. The damn rebels are Heathens, turning to the Dwarven religion, and betraying their fellow Humans. No man will follow them, even if some how they won. They should realise this, and stop making fools of themselves."

Diedrik 'Barrowborn' Carrion nods upon reading Winter's letter.

"This is no longer a matter of what man sits upon a throne. This is a matter of whether a man sits the throne. If Oren is defeated, it will not be a human victory. It will be a dwarven victory. A dwarf will rule Oren, even if not strictly by name. These men are no longer petty rebels. They are traitors to the human race. They would sell out their brothers to bloodthirsty, greed driven heathens. Every man who has loyalty to his brothers in human blood will stand with Oren, to hold back the dwarven menace. Look at the last time humans supported them. Adunia fought under the short folk in the last war, and they remain shackled to them. If there is one thing all men have in common, it is that. We are all men. And let no man bow to a dwarf."

'please be cautious old mates, old coppers, old dogs, they have skygod support and will be watching you with scrutiny so they can send you to the deep dark depths of skygod prison should you over step your bounds!!!"

A true student of History would recall that the states, at the time the 13 colonies, chose not to join by refusing to adopt the Albany plan. Maybe not the parallel you with to draw?

A quarter of the Royal Army's initiates stood in ranks on the crownlands plateau for inspection and briefing on their mission. In the gaps between formations marched the Herendulian High Command. King Edward II, Lord Marshal Vectis, and Crown Prince Harold, accompanied by Knight Captain David, who was to be placed in command of the particular division.

Snow began to fall. Cold wind bit at the mens' faces and even with fur worn under the herendulians' armor, they shivered. The northern weather would soon take hold in the men with the training to come. Vectis finally brought the High Command to the center of the ranks, shouting out over the howling wind,

"Before long, you men will take up your swords and spill the blood of rebels!"

The howling continued as the clatter of recycled plate armor clanged with the shivers of the recruits. Vectis's voice rang out again,

"The spilling of blood is on the hands of the rebel leader. No doubt you know his name! Some of you may think Slade Tarus is a hero for trying to rise up against the Raevir. Hell, it wasn't long ago we were prepared to fight them ourselves!"

The initiates stood in perfect silence as the wind whipped up the white and cyan banners of the standard-bearers, the Winter snowflake flapping in the unrelenting breeze.

"I will tell you now Slade Tarus is no friend of Herendul or man-kind!" Vectis shouted once again, more fervor in his voice, "I met him once when I served the Wolvengard! He was nothing more than a presumptuous child, clinging to the honor of a father many thought traitorous in his life! Now he has the balls to seek the removal of our country, and our KING, REX AQUILONIUS!"

A rabble of initiates, most likely native sons of Herendul, cried out in cheers as their hearts were filled with purpose against this new enemy. No longer, in the minds of those sympathetic with the cause, did they see this Tarus as a friend of Herendul or a savior of Oren.

"I expect each one of you men to do your duty when the time comes! Ser David, prep them for training! LONG LIVE HERENDUL! AVE REX AQUILONIUS!"

The men rang out in tandem, shouting cries of nationalism as Vectis and the High Command left David to transform the green recruits into battle ready armsmen.

Princess Penelope Winter watched the men train on the open plateaus of the Crownlands from the newly-constructed wall of the new castle. With a heavy heart, she watched them go through their drills as the wind carried their voices her way, the steady chant for blocks, strikes, and positions. With a shiver, she drew her fur cloak closer around her shoulders.

She had no doubt in her mind that her brother and his men would fight for King Edward and King Sigmund. They would fight until the last man to keep the kingdom of Oren united. Hopefully, all would be made right again soon.

The North didn't wait for anyone.
