I liked it when certain VIP ranks could set different things on their profiles. It's one of those little custom things that doesn't affect game play but still adds to the value of donation.

So I'm theorizing the person who is nr. 1 in donations to the server will get the prestigious Nether VIP rank? VIPs being donation-based, this seems like the most sensible explanation. The arms race for that must get interesting... Get-rich-quick scheme of the admins? mayhap. All I can attest to is that having your own unique forum tag is pre-tty sweet.
