Magic Plugin Bug "sear Spell & Chests"

Nature of the bug:

 

While holding an Enchanted Golden Staff and carrying several emeralds, I right clicked a double chest to open it....and BLAMOOO got blasted heavy taking 8-10 damage, and dealing AOE damage to a friend "Not so" near by.

 

First occurrence:

 

Approx 9:30 EST 1/21

What messages are/aren't you getting that you would/wouldn't get normally

 

If I remove the emeralds I get the standard "Reagent for this spell required."

Frequency of occurrence:

 

As many times as I clicked the chest...I imagine It could be done rapidly to cause death...Although I didn't dare test such.

Are you able to reproduce the bug:

 

Unfortunately in my sleepy state, I did reproduce it several times....Once to see what happened....and Twice because I naturally switched back to my staff "I usually use my stone staff to open things and carry around"

 

I Still love you, and looking forward to the seeing the whole Plugin.

It's due to a limitation in the underlying Minecraft click handling. To quote the plugin configuration documentation:

 

 

cast-on-animate:  If this is true, spells will be cast whenever the player swings his arm. If this is false, spells will be cast when the player left clicks. this may seem the same at first, but it is different. If this is true, spells may sometimes cast on right click, as interacting with some blocks/tools will cause the player's arm to swing. If this is false, it will generally work okay, but sometimes the left click just doesn't register so no spell will cast. This seems to vary based on the direction the player is looking and what block they are looking at. There really isn't an ideal option, so it's just a matter of preference.

 

We can try changing the config node and see how that works...

Safeties were invented for a reason. :P

 

My advise is to always keep any sort of magical equipment next to an offhand slot to do normal MC things. In the past it was good practice as an Ascended or undead to do so... seeing how the alternative was blinking through a wall or setting half the building on fire.

^Agreed with you Blunder, This is why I generally carried a stone staff instead of gold lol.....I guess I assumed with this new plugin that little bit would have been fixed...silly me ;)
