Heya, Hanrahan here.

A little while ago, there was a huge influx of posts and threads about too much PVP, and all that jazz. Both sides are heated, and got heated as always, but the point(s) remain the same.

1. There is a large amount of people who do not want to get their pants raided off.

2. We have a large amount of people who also enjoy PVP, and the challenge of it.

You can see the problem. There was an idea brought forth - A magical little village/town where no PVP could happen. Damn, that’s fantastic! Until a bunch of folks said things like…

‘No, it’ll draw away RP.’

‘No, It’ll provide an area with an unfair advantage.’

Those are the biggest two I remember. Now, let’s look closely at number one.

‘It’ll draw RP away..’

...From what, exactly? If a town like this happened, wouldn’t it do the very opposite, and become a thriving roleplay hub of activity, just like any other settlement wants to be? It’s seemed to me, that alot of Hardcore roleplayers want a town, or a village like this because they’re either terrible at PVP, or simply don’t enjoy it, and want to be left alone from it. So? Give them it. It’ll be a nice place for an RP hub, and after all - isn’t that exactly what we want on LOTC?

Second. An Unfair advantage? Now, hold on there tiger. The only thing this Elysium would offer is a No-PVP flag area. That doesn’t mean you can’t RP fight! There may be some instances of ‘PG’, but in these recent days, there’s alot more BR’s for PVP related issues, but let’s not focus on that too much.

tl:dr

Non-PVP settlement is a boon for the Hardcore Roleplayer community of LOTC and will provide a plentiful hub of RP and peaceful RP. If enough people want it, who are we to deny the masses anything?

Except that one time where the staff ignored the majority vote and said PVP default

So make it so those who prefer PVP and those who prefer RP do not interact frequently, foster a greater divide between the two groups, and have the two extreme "factions" grow even more frustrated with their infrequent interactions? Or alternatively, they don't interact, and then we just have two groups that don't like each other not interacting in RP?

Regardless, this isn't the solution. I may be presenting the negatives in a more black-and-white, extreme manner than it will present itself, but it's still a compelling reason to see that this never happens.

No, no pvp zones is just another place people meta their way out of losing a pvp fight. It surely changes the pvp default rules if someone can refuse pvp for being somewhere. You want peaceful rp? I say become a monk

I hate to lay it out like it is, but..

Someone like me will never, ever ever ever get along well and RP well with someone like a Flay, it just doesn't work. Hardcore RPers are bitter because their RP is disrupted, PVPers are bitter because they don't have any easy victims. Getting raided and PVP'd frequently is not the answer to mending the rift between RPers and PVPers.

You could also just RP fight them. :)

I remember this statement.

"Just get better at PVP."

Well, it'd be a treat for some folks who really enjoy RPing to say..

"Just get better at RP."

The fact that you have this state of mind, creates more of a divide.

People just need to learn to play nice with eachother, and try to cater to the wishes of their RP partner. ^_^

I still hold the opinion that PVP is dirt tier RP in most cases, but I sorta have to agree that the cities aren't a great idea. There could be a better solution.

Y'know, it's true. But that's the thing - there will /always/ be a divide, people just don't think the same. I hate PVP, I'm no good at it, I freeze up, and I end up dead. Never won a single PVP fight alone. That's the biggest reason why I'm a gung-ho supporter of an RP Haven, and I'm sure that's another reason for the others who do as well.

I'm going to fancy a guess, and say you're a pretty spiffing PVPer, who enjoys the adrenaline rush of it.

You can't change the Hardcore RPers state of mind by forcing PVP on them, that only makes them more and more bitter about the whole ordeal, Y'know?

It would only be in one single Settlement in all of 4.0

Look, this magic ideal of having RPers and PVPers being cooperative and working with each other is not going to work. You can butter it up all you want and pretend it will happen, but its not going to.

Plenty of hardcore roleplayers on the server wish to be left alone to roleplay, because that's why they're on the server. At the same time we have plenty of PVPers hungry for looting items who see these roleplayers who are A.) Bad at PVP and B.) Forced to PVP during combat. Right now good roleplayers are getting the short end of the stick in every encounter they have.

Look at the Conclave. This was a roleplayer heavy environment with tons of potential to be something great. Then, all of a sudden, the place gets raided and raided and raided and raided and raided, and then Antag raided (Because that doesn't count for some reason). The place is a ghost town now.

Hardcore roleplayers stick with other hardcore roleplayers. First Malinor, then the Conclave, and now Leanniel. Making a RP-restricted zone is going to make roleplayers infinitely happier, and essentially guarantees a stable, functioning player hub.

I understood that, accidental plural.

Hardcore RP'ers arent all non-cooperative jerks, maybe that's just you?

I love 'hardcore RP' (what a dumb term) and I love pvp equally. I will adapt my playstyle to keep everyone happy and keep myself happy equally.

Also, contrary to popular belief, PVP'ers prefer equal matches rather than a steamroll/easy pickings usually. The problem isn't the 'camp' that a player sits in (RP/PVP) but their attitudes that cause the problem. Stop trying to blame the system when the fault lies with yourself and others.

If you want peaceful RP then join a strong military nation (Oren) or a peaceful group like the monks or halflings.

I hope I speak true for all of us Hardcore Roleplayers..

1. No, nothing is going  change our minds. We don't like PVP. Chances are we never will.

2. We really just want to be left alone in our peace to Roleplay - in our minds, we signed up for an RP server, not PVP. (Extreme view.)

3. If this happens, it would make a huge chunk of the playerbase extremely happy, to the dis-advantage of none.
