4.0 Pre-Release Player Inspections

This really is the last chance, I think a lot of people are sick of the sub-par roleplay quality of the maps like the two that have preceeded the Fringe, Anthos more than Asulon I should say, and a lot of people are counting on 4.0 as the saving grace for this server, many others are observing from afar to see how it pans out so they may return if it lives up to expectations. This is important, lets not make the same mistakes as last time.

As far as I am aware and have been told by people on it, (so don't bite my head off if its a little wrong) the build/terrain team for 4.0 consists of around 9 people, only about 3 of which are active. It seems to me as if we need to actually have random players being invited to tour the 4.0 map prior to its release to weigh up its quality, rather than just relying on asking GMs and them saying "Yeah it's really good.", etc, because as I recall, that is what happened with Anthos and it ended up being an absolute disaster. We need to get this right. Perhaps just invite a few random players from the server each week or so onto the 4.0 build server to give feedback on certain things. If the players are from different server groups, all the better, because of the differing opinions on certain topics. Don't worry about ruining the surprise of the map or whatever because I guarantee next to nobody cares about that. And its a small price to pay for a map that we can actually enjoy day in and day out. Shift's monthly checkups are a good start, but I think we need to get a closer look at the map as it changes to see if we like what we see.

That is all.

I believe I can get some architects from my old server who currently work for Mithrintia ( Building academy in MC ) to check it out and judge, if that is prefered? I do agree with you Matt.

If Asulon and Anthos launches couldn't drive a majority of the players away, nothing can, just sayin'.

(no place to build for 6 months no mines for 6 months hup hup hup)

Edit: I'm not a fan of the idea. It's not bad by any means, I just like things being a surprise. Would prefer players come in and see the landscape and builds as a surprise, rather than see it three months prior off their friends 20 minute youtube video. Kind of a moot point since players are help building the map but shrug.

I worked for Mithrintia, so I have a good eye for quality. Choose me, if you want :) ( btw, sucks that mithrintia suddenly bit the dust and is now open. Now all it has is diamond/gold/valuable ore builds. I quit the moment that happened).

I don't know what any of that means. :3

Well, fair enough in my opinion. I was added onto the Anthos pre-building team because I actually built. I built the Imperial Arena in Old Abresi for example, along with a good few other buildings. Nontheless, pre-building. Something which was originally intended to be on a minor scale, I believe I am quite aware now that it is on a major scale happening already, is it not?

EDIT: Oh and to note, I was added in the last few weeks before release of Anthos.

As Ever stated I think it would ruin the surprise. Maybe a video of shift walking around some parts of the map? Or some screenshots when it's built up a bit more? The map is small, and I hope people realise this. But there's no need for an "inspection team". The MT should be able to show parts of it off well enough without ruining the surprise.

Much agree, Media team/shift a short pre-release "showing" of the map would be cool like a sneak peak video not showing to much but a little bit, sort of like those pre-release Anthos videos with that guy that I cant seem to remember.

I feel like allowing visitors would just stir the pot and drag out the process of finishing the map and releasing it as players critique and bicker over the details. I'd rather we just roll with it and work with what we've got once we get there. We can already see the map we're dealing with, structures can evolve over time once we get there and we really just need to focus on setting up land, regions and a basic template for growth, which seems to be what is already underway. Too many people have their thoughts on what should and shouldn't be and it is this plethora of thoughts and builders in disagreement that choked up the building and progression of Asulon and Anthos, it wasn't an absense of builders that did it. We had too damn many and they all disagreed and kept bulldozing plans and in-fighting until the last minute which left us with a handful of players scrambling to salvage things for release. I say we leave our half a handful of players and developers in cohesive agreement to continue their work and we enjoy ourselves as best we can once they're done.

I've been working on some terrain for a while now on 4.0, trust me these things take a while to do, even with some help and what not. The reason why there isn't many terrain builders in 4.0 is because there isn't many that can actually build things like that, or at least that I am aware of, and told. Yes there are probably some good builders out there that can do the job, but there is no applications to get onto the dev server, you just have to get lucky and get on.
