Prologue: A Universe at War

Peace. It is a fleeting notion that strikes the minds of intellectuals upon occasion. As mankind, and others, took to the stars it became very apparent that peace was nothing more than a dream. Across the universe blood was being spilled by the ton in the name of some sovereignty or religion.

-But that is hardly our concern. No, our story is focused around the small solar system labelled XF-41212. As fate would have it, events were about to unfold that would pit some of the universe's most powerful factions against one another.

These are their stories.

Chapter I - Heavy Clouds

france.gif
An introduction to L'Empire des Étoiles

The political structure of Earth by the year 2080 had nearly reached a breaking point. Across the globe, the world’s powers were enthralled in conflict with one another. The Japanese Technocracy was sweeping across Asia as the French Republic settled into war with the 4th Reich. Privatization in the military industrial complex brought with it billions of dollars spent on research and development in an eternal arms race on the hunt for the holy grail of weaponry. Assault rifles firing .30 calibre rounds as if they were nothing, grenades filled with irradiated metal shards, mech suits capable of killing entire towns, and of course, the bombs... always the bombs. At the peak of this technological advance, man drove himself into the past. World-War III found itself fought in precisely the same manner as the first, and across Earth the fields ran with irradiated blood. The end was surely nigh.

Of course, those are all just stories out of the history books. Every child in the Neoterre Cluster could tell you how it ended. The great nations of “Earth” fled to the stars, taking with them critical advancements in terraforming. France, the United Kingdoms, the United States, Russia, China, Germany, and Japan all scattered across the stars, never to hear of each other again. That was over 800 years ago, or at least by French calculation. What the French had done, unbeknownst to them, was take a wormhole not to some other corner of the galaxy, but to a rift in time itself. What was Ancient history by the reckoning of many Empire historians was in fact merely a century in the span of our own universe.

But to them, this was a year embroiled in the Great Wars, a massive civil war between Revolutionaries and Imperialists, just as the past 300 years had been, and just as the foreseeable future would always be. To the everyday citizen it mattered little. The wars were fought over the border systems, smaller clusters of star systems that formed the no-mans land between each of the two powers vying for control of the people, and whose allegiance shifted every few years as new military forces came to occupy them in a revolving door of regime changes and violent bloodshed.

Back in the home systems, entire planets dedicated to industrial quotas shipped loads of weaponry and equipment through their chemically blotted skies to the training facility moons in orbit of the massive military planets. Orbital drydocks spent decades crafting capital ships capable of bearing the entire population of any one of these moons to the forefront of battle, where they would be permanently stationed until their inevitable destruction. It was a custom, a tradition even. Soldiers were born to die, ships to be destroyed, and war to be eternally waged.

In their efforts to quell the Revolutionary forces, that a nearly mad astrophysicist by the name of Jean-Pierre Luminet discovered a means to create wormholes on a whim to theoretically transport Imperial fleets directly into the home systems of the Revolutionaries. Where they will actually end up? Well... you'll find out soon enough.

...

RNS Richelieu
Faster Than Light Transit
Unknown System
72 Hours until launch…

The 180th fleet of La Marine Royale, flagshipped by the RNS Richelieu, a Leviathan-class Titan, and under the command of Admiral Jean-Jacques Mortiet, le Duc de Nouveau Bretagne, sped its way through towards their wormhole's coordinates in formation with the rest of the fleet. The military strategists back at LMR Command on planet Nouveau Normandie (the Imperial Military's Headquarters Planet) maintained their comms link constantly to monitor the status of their assault fleet. Officially named “L’Offensive d’Ombre”, or the Shadow Offensive, Admiral Mortiet was assigned the duty of testing Monsieur Luminet's wormhole theory in a crippling blow upon the Revolutionary home systems.

DUST514_WB_CommandPit.jpg?itok=KX_TMOzZ

In the command room of the bridge, a large holo-table flickered with the images of the hopeful end-point of their FTL journey. Scouting data was being downloaded from Nouveau Normandie as the planets popped into existence, detailing planetary defense force strength and the likely patrol routes of any defensive fleets. In pure French, the language of the nobility, top brass from back in the home systems were offering their own strategic advice. Nothing interesting, just self-important commanders thinking their minds are the very fabric of war strategy.

With a rather unmistakable look of boredom, Admiral Mortiet shifts his gaze from the holo-table to his nearby aid, “Lieutenant Zalé, send word to the rest of the fleet. I would like hourly updates on the preparation status of all invasion forces. As soon as we exit F-T-L transit I want all scanners up and running. We’ll evaluate our strategy from there.”

“Oui Monsiegneur!” Lieutenant Zalé blurts out as he scurries off to the main comms hub.

Summary
-Empire des Étoiles fleet 180 is en route to the star system, whether they know it or not. They will arrive after several turns.
-Given their distance from the system, they would not yet be discoverable on scans. Nor can they scan the system themselves.

((I am aware that the following roster might seem overwhelming. Take into account that the Empire relies on largely kinetic damage type weaponry. This means that the force behind the round is what depletes shield energy. This is considerably less effective at taking down ship shielding than laser or plasma weaponry would theoretically be. To compensate the French send massive amounts of ordnance down range at their foes. They have themselves adapted very advanced shielding technology, but their arrogance in their shielding has lead to a downturn in armoring in Empire vessels. If you can manage to get through the shielding the massive fleet is a lot more penetrable than it may originally seem.))

THE EMPIRE OF SAMARKAN

3.jpg

"Bridge command to engine compartment, prep for stabilization process. Over"

"Engine compartment here, we read you."

The small fleet of ships slowly eases into place, the command bridge of Cruiser I having an immediate view of the Hoffen moon.

"Over there sir!"

"I see it lieutenant, I see it"

The man speaking was none other than Vizier Dumas, hero of the Empire, the general who had managed to quell the Interior rebellion. He stands tall and proud, arms crossed against his chest as he analyzes the new solar system. After several seconds of complete quiet on the deck, he issues three simple orders.

"Attempt to make contact with the moon, let's see if it's inhabited. Prep the Legion for landing, and begin re-armament process."

Soon enough, the order is given, and the 9th Combat battalion scramble from their makeshift barracks to the carrier deck, boarding several large drop ships.

Image1.jpg

Additionally, the 1st Shock battalion and 4th Rifle battalion stands at full gear, ready to intervene should a skirmish develop. Now, it was just a matter of whether the natives responded or not.

Orks

Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka looked over his fleet of ships upon the bridge of Slamblasta. His forces were depleted due to the bulk of his force still on Armageddon. He had just received reports that Commander Yarrik and his force had turned back to Armageddon. He's thinking about strategies for when he returned to Armageddon when one of the navigators speak up.

"Zur! Wi 'ave spotted sum planets up a'ead!"

"How maneh?"

"Tree plunets an' twu moons."

"Zet curse fur duh cluzezt moon."

With that the fleet would turn, its course now set for Vasari. It would take a turn before the fleet would arrive in communication range.

Vasari

Stuff2_zpsad453bef.jpg

High commander Antorak the transcendent, first of his kind, clicked his pincers together in annoyance as he stormed from the meeting room of the high Vasari council.
Fools, he cursed them, silently. The funding they'd refused to supply to the cosmic-initiative program had put them all in vital danger, and the simple-minded, contemptuous idiots were too blink to see it! Outside of their solar system, the grand race of humanoid/insectoids were in the dark of all galactic happenings- which would have been changed, if it wasn't for the over-conservative, idiotic arguments of the second, fifth, and eighth seats of the council.

His plan was to launch a scanning array into low orbit around their moon, which they would use to detect incoming spacial fluctuations of large happenings between the stars, but it was all over, now. If a pulsar erupted nearby, they'd have no time to shield or prepare their moon and it's inhabitants from the atmospheric devastation that would arouse, not to mention the fact any incoming intergalactic fleet- of which he was sure there was one- would be undetectable to their currently primitive installations.

He resumed the rhythmic clacking, though this time he was in deep thought. Perhaps, if we cannot be prepared in this way, there is another. I should move all resources the the P.J program. He nodded in affirmation as he ducked around the corner, reminding himself to do so at once.
Next to the awareness of our cosmic neighbors, their destruction is the most important thing. With this, perhaps we will not be so helpless after all...

((The Vasari have begun research on a technology to allow objects to bypass shields by means of 'jumping' through space past them. Whether they succeed, and how long it will take, is up to Chaq, though all of their resources are going into it rather than the building of new ships, or, as addressed, a more powerful scanning mechanism. Note- the effectiveness of this technology would be low due to the near perfect circumstances that are required for success- namely an unmoving target, as the object would simply be vaporised upon transmission if transported into the shield or hull, rather than inside or outside it. Range is also an issue, but also the Vasari's inability to actually produce many of the machines due to their lack of materials. ))

Protorian Expeditionary Fleet

Zipping flashes of light, as the expeditionary fleet of the Protorian Council under command of Avatar Ru'tan Men reaches the outer reaches of the solar system. A fleet of roughly twenty ships, most prominent the big heavy cruiser Ro'yakon Triul, serving as headquarters and flagship of the expiditionary force. They have been sent by the Council upon long-range scan discovery of the planetary system which proved to yield habitable planets. A simple mission to examine and study the local wildlife and fauna, make contact with any existing civilizations if applicable and settle the area in peace.

...

"Avatar, we have successfully left Quantum Space. Structural intregrity 100%. Hull integrity 100%. Shields at 86% and recharging." Stepping towards the front window, the Avatar nods once. "System details." - "The system contains merely of three planets, as our long range scans and observations noted." - "Can we scan one of them?" - "Barely, but the Zia'tual Bounce Scanner has range on two of the planets. Shall we try it?" - "Proceed."

A pause of several minutes ensues as the science officers of the bridge start up the scanners and begin the process.

"Avatar, we have results." - "Any habitants?" - "We were unable to identify anything on the moons of the planets, and only able to scan to of the three due to the sheer distance, but..." - "Yes?" - "Two of them appear to be habitated. The scanner's values indicate civilization on both of the planets." - "Power up the Ion engines and proceed approaching the system at lower speed. As soon as you are in range for the Kal'dara General Scanner, use it and hold position until my further orders." - "Yes, Avatar!"

The Avatar leaves the bridge, as the fleet slowly sets in motion to close in towards the solar system. It will approximately take them one turn to be close enough in range for the planets to communicate and scan further.

The Cerberus Federation

'Power to the People, For Humanity'

cerberus.jpg

Posters like these popped up again around the planet, the people walking to their factories and offices surrounded by them. "Remember Shanxi". "They are coming". Propaganda had been the experience of this new government, and the populace blindly followed.

The grand population of Bogdana was opressed, as was necessary, criminality was very active in the city as the police tries to fight it with all their might. Terrorists often made attacks on the system, but horribly failed. Civil deaths were common, and the government kept brainwashing and making hollow promises. But such was the live on Bogdana. The planet given by god..

In the central square, in front of the government palace. The army stood and listened to the propaganda speech of their president. Many troopers stood there, but the government knew that there are others out there.. More advanced.. But soon, the Cerberus Federation will bring back humanity to its former glory..

army%20futuristic%20spaceships%201280x10

The Government starts the renovation of factories planet-wide, black smoke covering the skies as construction workers move to the closest factories. They are being upgraded to make production more advanced, faster and less HAO-8 consuming. Renovating would take a long while, but employ more people and become far more efficient and beneficial than the original ones. {{7}}

The Breesha

In the far section of the galaxy, a planet known as Sa'ra. The homeworld of the faction called The Breesha. Their homeworld had become a source of a story to be told by distant Breesha. They spread their army thin and wide like a plague, this faction managed to conquored dozen of planets for resources, labour and another planet to overpopulate their race. They remain to continue overpopulating and undying by the altering their own dna to remain alive. They consider themselves the perfection of evolution, the higher beings of all else.

A fleet that consists of a Massive mothership escorted by two destoryers, two strike carriers, four frigates slowly approaches this small solar system of three planets and two moons at the distance rear of the sector.

In the massive mothership, a advanced metalic sphere room curves into the room. In the center of the room is a holo table projecting a red sphere rotating emitting small particles and volts.
There stood three "The Higher beings", slim-built humanoid species with telepathic communcation powers and extrememly intelligent in their technology. Their skin is pink and pure white, no mouth feature, two human-like eyes and snake hood.

R%27ha.jpg
"A planet is aquired. Khnum?" Sekhmet spoke to Khnum though her thoughts. Sekhmet is the Military commander of this fleet as she is the Goddess of war.

"Sekhmet. The planets has habitants. Lifeforms of space era." Khnum replies. Khnum is the main sciencist and the creator of tthe controlling and generatic altering technology planted onto their soldiers. The god of creation and waters.

"Set our soldier drones on alert, the closest planet shall be our dormain."

Khnum uses the holoprojection to tap symbols from their language to activate the waking status of 15000 tank-class soldiers. They stand in their positions like statues with eyes fully open awaitng the next command from The Higher Beings. Khnum looks through the controls to monitor each of these soldiers.

Sekhmet taps few symbols to adjust the mothership's and the fleet's course to a closest planet near the fleet.  It would take a turn for their arrival to a planet.

The Fourth Reich

Colonial Chancellor Wilhelm The Fourth

Alone. Abandoned. Left for dead. Those had been the thoughts that ran through the minds of the first German settlers who found their way to Hoffen. Hope an ironic word, because the colonists quickly lost it. It had been nearly 800 years since the German people spread out through the stars, but the Hoffen mission was the first. They were the test run, to see if the theories were even possible. Damnit, they were possible and the people sent to the god forsaken moon were never heard from again. The rest of the Empire spread out across the stars in other systems. However, the people did not forget. The German people remembered who they were and where they came from. Through glorified writing, speeches, and propaganda the memory of the Fatherland lived on. So much so that the people even spoke of one day returning to that doomed rock called Earth just to touch the ground where their ancestors walked. But no, Hoffen was the home of the German people now.

18qi39cwjso2zjpg.jpg

Colonial Chancellor Wilhelm the Fourth was elected three years ago. Not long after his election were anomalies detected, blips on the edge of the system and now a ship was hailing the German defense systems. 50,000 men against an unknown number of enemies, what a **** show huh? The Chancellor looked to his advisors with a worried gaze. One of his advisors looked to him with a slight tremble in his voice, "Ought we make contact." The Chancellor looked at him for awhile, stroking his chin in deep thought. He nodded, but ordered the agricultural domes to be sealed to keep them from being seen from prying eyes. A squadron of four fighters is sent out to meet the Imperial dropships, hailing them that they mean no harm and only seek to guide them to a landing spot for diplomatic communication.

horizon_station___earth_orbital_5_by_mad

The Nuremberg class Carrier, "Spirit of the Fatherland" is prepped and it's weapon systems are checked for full engagement. A patrolling fleet further out in the system, lead by the Munich class Battleship, is also warned of the presence and ordered to be prepared to jump to home for an engagement.

Roughly 500 Marines are sent to the landing zone, each armed with top of the line gear engineered on Hoffen. The Germans had improved upon their technology significantly in order to survive. They'd also designed and built several new fighters, cruisers, and even two carriers. A general show of force is to meet the Empire as to not appear puny to them. A dozen Leopard 14A4+ tanks accompany the marines along with 2 mobile infantry support drones for each tank.

PjDo3In.jpg

yt9WrZW.jpg

Overhead, the "Spirit of the Fatherland" hovers. It had received a massive overhaul and was not actually the same ship from 800 years ago. Instead, it was retrofitted with new nanite armor plating and ion shielding. Like every other ship, save some of the Messerschmitt fighters, it uses Kinetic weaponry to bombard an enemy with overwhelming force. Several fighters are equipped with laser weaponry in order to bring down shields faster.

Turn Summary

- Reich ships are prepped for a possible battle

- Samarkan ships are hailed and escorted to a landing zone

- Biodomes/Terraformed Agricultural Areas are sealed off to keep from being seen by foreigners

Japanese Technocracy Colonist

Bushido (Colonist World)

koshime_concept_ship.jpg

A sleek battleship, but one of massive proportions. This ship carried all of the Technocracy's warriors, and a good part of the colonist and nobility. Trailing behind the sleek ship were Three frigates, two escort carrier's, and a destroyer. The unprotected and large colony ship. Their task was to go off into the unknown, and colonize the first hospitable planet they find. Su'Zu was given honor, being a chief industrialist and warrior. He was given more secrecy and sealed orders from the Shogun himself, he was to claim all in the Emperor's name.

As time passed two classes established as classes always do. The noble and military ruled the upper tier, while normal colonist were considered second par. Time passed, and so did the years. Eventually, they came upon the solar system. Brazenly entering the system, they came upon the planet to be named Bushido.

A town had been established in due time, thanks to the Japanese 3d printing building templates. As the few became many, the town grew and technology dominated the architecture. Built around a plateau, the town rose up instead of across. With the nobility on the plateau and the colonist on the ground level, a riff already cracking in space tore wide.

Seeing that it was mainly jungle planet, Japanese colonist stayed to the city and agricultural plains, though some dwelled in the jungle. The Samurai and they levies were tasked to clear or ally the Jungles of the numerous tribal bands. For now the Japanese dwelled on the planet, and started to expand with towns and trading hubs. Soon their ambition or need of resource would grow,a dn their navy scouted for a likely target....

Sirens blazed and lights flickered as Antorak paced back and forth across the commanding ship Stilakus' bridge, his alien features hard with apprehension. "Ch', Orkss." He cursed, snapping his pincers together angrily. This wasn't the first time he'd dealt with the foul, space dwelling tide that was the Orcs, and he had no doubt it wouldn't be the last.
"Sssend the scout." He finally decided, gesturing to his head tech. adviser with an assertive claw. Filthy, half witted creatures. Most like they can't even read our warnings. They'd prepared a small shuttle to meet the Tide, to relay a message to each of their ships with a declaration of neutrality and caution. Soon after their short range scanner had picked up the incoming fleet, Antorak had taken the first shuttle aboard the fleet and taken command of the largest of the five Battlecruisers to ready their defenses. Below, far beneath the surface of Vann'gegna, the Vasari civilians were in panic. Of all races to come, it had to be the Orcs...
"It isss done, commander." Antorak snapped out of his pondering, shaking his head with a clack of his teeth. Now, all that the proud race of Vasari could do was wait...

((A shuttle has been sent with a message to the Orcs, as live communication is not yet possible between them. Forces won't be fully rallied until two turns have passed, though the message will be relayed within the turn. Sorry for taking so long, though I'm pretty sure your post was reserved until recently.

Protorian Expeditionary Fleet

"Avatar on bridge, Avatar on bridge." Loudspeakers across the Heavy Cruiser. Soon enough the Avatar steps into the roomy command center of the vessel.

"What's the matter, First Protector?" - "Our sensors have received movement around one of the moons. It appears to be a kind of war fleet... The signatures indicate something we have not yet encountered." - "Inform the other ships. Then try to hail the fleet we have detected. Our distance alone should grant us enough safety for talks." - "Yes, Avatar."

The Ro'yakon Triul sends hailing signals directly to the Slamblasta.

California Republic

Calafia Colonial Office

With a glass of water in hand, Governor Daniels prepares himself for the coming meeting between himself and the top military brass, among them the rising poster boy of the Navy, Admiral Alejandro Serrano. He grumbles to himself, wishing the whiskey ration wasn't delayed, he could feel a headache coming on. Settling himself into his chair and taking a sip to calm his mind he thinks back on events that led them all to this planet. Earth grew too small for the Republic, they needed to expand so they looked to the stars. This was the first planet to come under their benevolent administration and due to excellent diplomacy the ruling tribals of this world agreed to submit to their authority and integrate into Californian society. Of course the military was happy with this arrangement, using them as scouts and interpreters on such unfamiliar soil. The Governor idly wonde-

A slammed door later the brass was here, an aide holding up a large data pad. Taking control of the situation, Admiral Serrano salutes the Governor. "I'm sorry about the door, Governor Daniels but we have urgent news. Radar has picked up activity on the moon orbiting Calafia. We're sending a scouting vessel to scan for any hostile intent and establish contact with whatever is on that moon. We're not taking any chances and are sending a couple marines as well. Hopefully it is nothing but one can not be too sure. I will be heading back to the Vallejo to coordinate the search. Good day." With that and and a sweep of his coat, the Admiral strides out of the office.

Daniels really wanted that drink right about now.
