  1. 1. Should RP default be re-implemented into the server for a month or two?

PVP creates an environment where punishment is always by death.

It was a good decision for levelling out the playing field. For sure. But default? Not at all. Why? Because any squabble has to become to-the-death as THAT IS THE DEFAULT. You can combat my point by saying that there are other options like sticking to roleplay, or duelling, or whatever else. But the point is that the DEFAULT is to kill eachother. I am just happy to stick to the areas that are filled with players who actually care about this being a roleplay server and don't end up in pointless combat.

The only reason this Poll would be going in the reverse is because of the spamming of it that will be happening right now on the Oren TS

how aboot we just go back to the majority system, i have no clue why we ever left it, seemed pretty great to me.

I say being in the majority system with an RP default cap of 6 players.

Or add a no default system and allow players to roll for the type of combat.

Having a default just allows people to force a type of combat on people without a pinch of consideration for the fellow player.

PvP default isn't the problem, the problem is that RP has no incentive

Actually, using minecraft mechanics in itself is a powergame of one's character.

One could see how endless sprint-hopping in full iron and sword whacking could be unrealistic.

But often applied power-emoting is the act of asserting ones intended outcome onto another without dialogue or agreement whether it be by a response emote or private-messaging. Power-gaming though while potentially an issue in role-play where one attempts to assert power over another should effectively be nullified because the playing field has been levelled.

Being forced to PVP is like being shot in the head, quick but you end up dead.

Being forced to RP fight is like slow torture, agonizing and brutal and you also end up dead.

I prefer RP fighting but forcing someone who doesn't want to RP fight to RP with you ends up in BRs and OOC bitchfits 90% of the time.

PVP creates an environment where punishment is always by death.

Knockout plugin begs to disagree.

PvP default isn't the problem, the state of war is. PvP default is the solution to a different problem and doesn't cause the disruption of any RP whatsoever.

This right here.

I prefer emote-based fighting but using mechanical fighting for the default is objectively better. The main reason is emote-fighting requires both sides to cooperate (ie. no powergaming, metagaming, etc.) in order to have an enjoyable fight, and anything less quickly results in it becoming very frustrating. Forcing people into emote fights (ie. using it as the default) as opposed to fighting with consenting parties does not achieve this cooperation.

On the other hand mechanical-based fighting as the default means if you can't both agree how to fight, you have a 30-second clickfight and the victor is clear afterwards.

Mainly because you powergamed every RP fight in early Anthos (RP default combat)

The same goes for PVP.

Eh. Mech. default needs to remain as is. It's been great mediation, doesn't force anyone to deal with anything for a prolonged amount of time and allows a generally 'painless' method of removing powergamers.

With there no longer being direct method of mediating magic and no punishment for powergaming, mechanical default forces a player to "RP fairly" or not at all.

A default is a system to fall back on when an agreement can't be met. Emote Default (don't like the term RP default because it wrongly implies any other system isn't RP) then requires you to agree to lose. It doesn't work as a no-agreement fallback.

Forcing to clicky fight may not be pleasant but it does force a resolution. Forcing to Emote just creates a new problem.

I would rather be "clicked to death" in a few short seconds if I have to log out or go afk. Rather than spending 15mins - 1hour of emote fighting.

People who will abuse the system will always exist. Be if RP Default or PVP Default. Either way in regards to expanding roleplay, rather than forcing it upon people. Shouldn't we try to encourage it? The best way to do that is to do so in game, rather than on the forums trying to force change.

I do have to ask, who even forces the PvP default at this point? Everyone? Just Oren? Most places? What?

And if it's just certain places, why do you return to these places? Do you simply crave the abuse, or? Care to share some examples of people forcing you into PvP default, with pics? There has to be a reason it's being used over it simply happening.

At this point, all I'm really hearing is anger over inability to be a bad-ass special snowflake type character.

(No, not referencing this thread. Just general tone presented to me by others.)

I think the reason we're seeing these problems is the war problem, not the mechanics-default problem. We have had mechanics-default for some several months now and it has worked wonders in combat, but with the rise of this extremely-agitated war, it has shown its slight dark sides.

Besides, whether you like it or not, those who enjoy emote-fighting and those who enjoy PvP-fighting will congregate together almost definitely most of the time. I feel that this is good, because those who prefer to emote-fight do that with eachother and those who like to PvP do that with eachother as well. It is a nice system.

I vote to keep PvP as default.
