Rp Default V.s. Pvp Default

Now this may just be me, but I prefer RP Default. PvP Default is great in all in the sense of it can be more fun, destroys power gamers, and creates large battles. However, what it does not do is incorporate military roleplay. Many military groups now are just there for Pvp. They do not train. Instead, they form basic formations with titles and march off to battle. I've seen a few patrols, but it has always end up in just PvP Default.

 

RP Default, even though it can be a hassle, allows a character to gain vendettas and a sense of achievement. It also prolongs roleplay which grants a wider range of RP possibilities. What do I mean? I mean it is much easier to develop a sense of hatred in RP towards a particular race, group, or culture when RP is prolonged in a 2v2, 1v2, or 2v3 RP Default scenario than it is to just say "PvP Default!" then "The bandits are vanquished!" Yes it can be a hassle; yes it can be annoying at times. But would you rather have a wider range of roleplaying emotions and diversity or just, "There he is! Kill him! (Pvp Default) Thank you, he was a bandit!"

 

Why is PvP default bad currently? It is destroying the diversity and effort in specific areas of roleplay that were once thriving because the said people want to get involved in PvP battles instead. The said people must also stop what they are doing to avoid being PvPed as well which puts a halt to roleplay. I am not suggesting to permanently bring back RP default. I am suggesting the re-implementation of RP default for a month or two before thrusting ourselves back into PvP default. This would help in the revitalizing of RP emotional feelings towards families, foes, ect... even for just awhile.

RP Default so so easy to stall and get all of your friends to help you 30 minutes into the fight.  I'm not feeling being back flipped away from by Mirtok ever avian.

PvP default isn't the problem, the state of war is. PvP default is the solution to a different problem and doesn't cause the disruption of any RP whatsoever.

I don't think mechanics-combat default is our problem. It enforces a quality-control, acts swiftly, and negates power-gaming/meta-gaming. We should however, find a way to enforce additional rule-changes that would capitalize on our bonuses and improve aspects that we lose on as a result of mechanics-default. We have been through this before and I think it's best to leave the x vs. y debate to rest and instead work to improve what we have now.

I agree! Definetly about the training! A skilled swords man that trains 24/7 would not even Be better then a 5 year old with a kitchen knife, talking pvp. That is why I think that they should change it! It really DONT like pvp default!

For what I just said, no one trains, they just gather and rum out to fight, how f*rcking lame is that?

PvP was a good decision to make default on the staffs part. I myself prefer RP agreeing with most parts. Yet pvp ruining RP is up to the players not the default. Many players prefer PvP to get things done on the server. But long as you are polite or try RPing I doubt they would mind. Aswell, with military training not actually being trained well is true, though it is the players fault for that. And even still folks have done that way before pvp was default as it was fun doing small pvp training. Do I feel it may be hindering with RP training. Perhaps, though in the end it is up to the players how they go about PvP default and I am sure if you ask nicely people would try RP fighting first.

Sure, I love RP fighting: on a small scale. RP fighting simply does not work with more than, say, 6 people. RP fighting is great, and so it should be default as we are a roleplaying server- rather than PVP which creates impossible scenarios (e.g. a Halfling easily killing an Orc simply due to the fact that the player can click faster).

 

However, PVP does avoid any chance of power/meta gaming. Instead of continuing this bloody endless debate: we should be creating and modifying new rules that apply to PVP that makes it a more fun ? experience for everyone rather than it being something that players use only so they can take people's items.

To be honest, I greatly prefer a good rp fight to pvp. That being said? Most 'good' rp fights come from people who still take rp fighting when offered the chance. RP fighting with a person who doesn't want to RP fight is, at best, short and not fulfilling.

 

PvP default, while not perfect, doesn't hurt the server in itself. It's used to hurt the server in many cases, but those cases are the fault of the players. Not the system. Does it sometimes bother me that a veteran mage that could easily beat a single soldier is cut down in pvp? Yes, but, it comes with the system. Take your loss, wait your return-to-death, and carry on.

 

The issues it does facilitate are the fault of the players abusing it. The same players who use pvp default as a way to 'go into a down, shout two lines, start pvp countdown' are the ones who, in rp default, would spend an hour arguing in ooc about their hit missing. The only way either system can work is if the staff starts enforcing quality of rp.

You could stop using sophistry and replace RP default with "Emote Default" and PvP default with "Mechanical Default". Much obliged mate.
