Looking For The Voice

Alrighty, let me explain.

I agree, trailers with more music than speech are amazing. A trailer I started on was built on nothing but music, and - even though it was deleted somehow - it was fantastic. Perhaps even the best I've ever made.

But trust me, lads, this trailer has been in the works for a bit now. I honestly think that it'll work brilliantly, if not moderately. Aye, music is nice and such, but they are trying to tell a story in this one, not just a premise. I understand where you all are coming from, but just give it a chance and then criticize. If it isn't good, then blame me for it! ;)

It might be beneficial to know what sort of voice you're going for beyond mature and 'seen some stuff.' =P Like, what kind of tone you're going for, an example of what the narrator would be talking about and how they'd feel about it. It's one thing to have a mature older voice, but it's another to put that voice to work on a particular emotion.

Honestly if you want a good voice, I think MAT have heard Zerostar and I can suggest some sweet songs to boot. I dont know if my voice could work due to my Southern drawl.

It is telling a story. So there is highs and lows, bits of aggression and moments of tranquility. Hence why it is less about finding a good "actor" and just finding the right voice.

But...you don't have anything specific for us to say???? Give us some things to say!!!

Yes. Having something to read would be nice.

Yes. It is an animated shot. It might not turn out as it has already burnt down one house in an attempt to render it out in time (not 100% truthful). But if the shot does make it in, then the narrator will be seen at the start as an MC player who is male and old.

And for the rest of you who want to debate how a trailer should be made:

Keep it on topic.

As I said in the OP, this trailer is going to be very different to anything we have done in a long time. So therefore you should probably make the assumption that it isn't someone flying around our world and putting on a voice. We have faith that this trailer will be good and well received. It is pulling together to look very nice, we just want to make sure that the voice that drives it forward is the best one at our disposal, so it is being opened to anyone who has a good voice.

If there are any further debates about whether voiced trailers work or how we should be making videos then I will have an FM promptly remove the reply without notice.

-Not in this topic-

Make a feedback thing if you want. Just recognise that if you only know the videos that we have done previously and don't have much clue at what we are presently working on, then perhaps your feedback has already been taken into consideration AGES ago and is no longer appropriate.

Do excuse us for being a little skeptical of the media team, I'm sure you understand why.

Needs more countjuno88.

Also, this is my favorite trailer ever for LoTC (linked one) and it's a brilliant mix of music and voice acting. So I'm good with a voiced trailer.

In that case, you'd need even better of an actor. There are plenty who can pull off the voice you're looking for, but not many who could do it and maintain the emotions you'd look for. Like the others said, it'd be most beneficial to give a line or two of text that you'd want spoken as an example, a mock-script of a sort, that would help you find exactly what you're looking for. You'd lay out the text, maybe with a notation of how the narrator should be feeling about what they're saying, and you can see from the responses how the VA responds to those lines in their chosen voice. It'd give you a much better idea of who to pick.

For those who are looking for a text to read out, I'd definitely suggest the first few lines from Tolkien's 'The Hobbit'. It's mellow, moody, and kinda fitting :D

In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means * comfort. It had a perfectly round door like a parthole, painted green, with a shiny yellow brass nob in the exact middle. The door opened on to a tube-shaped hall like a tunnel: a very comfortable tunnel without smoke, with panelled walls, and floors tiled and carpeted, provided with polished chars, and lots and lots of pegs for hats and coats- the hobbit was fond of visitors.

*Good food, a warm hearth, and all the comforts of home.
