There has been a flurry of recent threads regarding pvp, rp and the future of LotC. There has also been a far ranging and vigorous debate on the course that we have taken and the course we should now take as a server. In regards to rp and pvp, the general assumption for the last year has been that a "liberal" approach towards pvp is what the majority supports; however, recent threads seem to have challenged that assumption. I, as well as many others I am sure, find myself wondering where the playerbase stands on some of the issues. So, if you could please answer a few questions in the poll above, I would greatly appreciate it.

PVP is roleplay. All it needs is a bit of creativity from both parties, if the one with the lesser 'RP advantage' wins. Perhaps the big bad knight tripped on a root and the halfling managed to stab him in the eye while he was down.

I support the majority rule and will probably vote for PVP in most cases if I come to a fight, because I just don't want to spend an hour roleplaying combat when I could be enjoying some other RP. I just don't like combat roleplay, it's always rife with unintentional powergaming and metagaming from both parties. Nonetheless, I think the amount of PVP should be slightly reduced and people should just cut back on constantly fighting.

Yeah, I have fun. I should have joined the High Elves years ago. I wouldn't invite a friend to LoTC though, none of them even understand the concept of roleplay.

Pvp default, the only time a 5 year old can kill an Orc.. Or y'know, one halfling can kill 3 humans and blah blah. Pvp default wasn't supposed to make RP sense, it was to speed up the game.

Everything works with a bit of creativity, though honestly, I don't log on much when I have other things to do because Lotc is repetitive with the combat rp/pvp. Though in most cases, I go PvP Default myself.

Creativity? What is this madness Spamshok? You'd think folks would get so on a fictional role-playing server, but alas it appears to not be so!

I have to question who would even talk about LoTC to their real life friends, let alone ask them to play with you.

I'd get ripped to shreds if I was found out to be a member of a minecraft fantasy roleplaying server!1

Anyway, I'm a fanatical PvP default supporter and remain such, however I do believe that the amount of war in the fringe has been ridiculous, a number of factors have been responsible for this but PvP default is not one of them. They are two separate issues entirely. The fringe map being the primary factor, another being the lack of any sort of antagonist after Setherien died and the lack of a skill plugin to soak in all the boredom.

I liked LotC the best right when they first shifted from PVP default to RP default. There were mostly RP fights going on, yet few people powergamed because in the past people had been conditioned to not powergame or face PVP. However, I certainly prefer PVP default even if I prefer RP fighting in general, I just wish that it seemed like both could happen on the server.

Anyways, I think a lot of the issues are with people just jumping ship for the temp map, and others are caused by the staff not working to promote an environment that is conducive to cooperative roleplay. Of course, to do the latter would probably require them to be more strict, which is unfortunate, but likely necessary.

I'd invite my friends to play if there wasn't such a deluge of argumentation and you could properly immerse in role-play without being sucked into a internet debate at a minute's notice. Basically, if we all shut up, it would be less scary to new players.

The server's community is almost as toxic as League of Legends. When this improves, I'll invite people to play.
