Yes please, even though I wasn't there for Asulon. Most of these ideas are rather good. I personally think that we should wait and see the professions plugin in 3.5.5 and make feedback accordingly for 4.0.

What if the server went back to RP? This is a brain storm after all, and that is just Panda's two cents. She sure has not been here for a while, but there does not seem to be a single one of her friends who seems all that happy with this server. Your advertisements seems to still say that you roleplay, but all of these talks of PvP plugins just detracts  from the literature and stories that you can all tell with each other in interesting ways...

Eh, what does Panda even know?

You do realise that you're you, right, and thus grammatical convention dictates you utilise the first person pronoun, yes? Unless you're secretly a Gand. :P

Anyway, we're discussing large scale battles here, that wouldn't work on an emote basis anyway.

Have always said archers need more punch. Maybe Telanir could code it so that arrows do more damage the the further they go with near oneshots for long distances? That way they can't be used as lethal oneshot shotguns, but archer snipers are a serious threat.

Completely agree with you Pok, the combat plugin was a part that made me stay on the server. Now the battles are boring and dull. +1

Edit: Also agree with Lago's point, the further the arrow goes should determine the damage it does!

Indeed, I believe this should be brought back as it will create more military RP as players will have to actually develop tactics and their personal character PVP build. Yes ironically, this is coming from a strong believer in RP when possible.

However I believe a greater level of customization will allow military RP to thrive and will actually allow people to feel they're fighting as their characters rather than a scrub in iron armor who is clicking desperately.

By this I mean: Your rangers will be in their leather hides and have their bows. AKA tailored to their character. The Knights will be on horseback in their plate, flanking the enemies line and acting as an anvil against the enemy. Etc etc, I'm much more inclined to PVP if I feel as if I'm playing my character how he should be played. :)

In terms of what I think should actually be brought back, I think that:

  • Iron+ cannot use bows
  • Slow based on armor
  • Head shot 2x damage with bow
  • TnT
  • Axe damage = to sword with a 5% crit chance (make them equal but because swords can block, they can be used defensively, so an axe for aggression with a slight debuff could be made. 10% is relatively equal because in 10 hits blocking with a sword successfully deflects 10 damage, and one in 10 axe hits does an additional 8 damage[if axes = swords and this is for diamond damage].) Critical: Double base damage

(P.S. I like how the flays talk about this idea as thought it would make good pvp'ers worse, from what I see, you guys really aren't that good at pvp, you just like to fight and pick on people while breaking rules and somehow evading to get banned some how. If they were to implement this I'd recommend you wear leather at all times so you have an easier time running away. The Blacklists will reign supreme. Btw, the flays in early Anthos were scarier, because they actually RP'd being threatening, and RP'd 100x more than you do nowadays. Maybe if you actually RP'd robbing someone, instead of blatantly saying pvp engage, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Then people might actually fear you. What made me say this? You guys are literally like the only people who said -1, and were quick at it. That, and this system would actually hurt your childish antics so I'd see why you'd disagree to this because all you want to do is charge head on and kill people without an ounce of strategy.)

I like this idea for several reasons:

It adds diversity to battles, characters, and weapons/weapon types.

It adds importance of character skill and detracts from ooc ability.

It makes archery actually useful (right now people just use it to fire one arrow before sword rushing).

As a side note:

It makes sense people with good OOC fighting skills would reject this.  They don't want their ooc skill to be lessened.

Headshots seem like a good idea.  However its probably not possible as the hit box isn't separated (as far as I know).

Telanir said something along the lines of "players rejected his new pvp system b/c it changed minecraft combat".  This seems more like an enhancement to combat.  It enhances character skills while leaving actual combat the same (you still swing at them, fire arrows, etc.)

Assuming the new plugins actually have race modifiers and life modifiers it would do a good job of still allowing a halfling, or other not as large creature to participate in fighting roleplay if they want (by leveling the skills) - some, such as law enforcement, would need this.  An expert halfling sword fighter wouldn't usually beat an expert orc one, but at least he would be able to beat an average (skill wise IC, not OOC) orc sword fighter.

Last side note, an arrow doing more damage the farther away they are is incredibly unrealistic.

If you really want people to pick roles in battles, make armor "switching" have a cooldown.  Then people won't swap armor mid battle like in the videos pok showed.

I really like how the old plugin by Vaq was structured (save for the silly leveling system, that was dumb).  It seems like a good idea to bring back and you've made a good post structuring why it should be brought back.

1+.

I support all of this, except for two things. The part of Nexus combat with the cool-downs for strikes, was amazing and I loved it. Unfortunately those who lived outside N. America did not find this as good, so I think it would have to go. Second from what I hear about golden weapons they would not be a good idea as they sound a bit op. Everything else, I love.

I don't understand why I suggested nexus. There never was a weapon slow down and I hated that lol. It's an entirely different plugin.

Yeah that nexus was sin incarnate tbh.

Oh sorry! I read this yesterday and commented with what I remembered, coming back to it I see what you actualy wrote.

I'd suggest something for armor balancing, we know generaly what leather and iron would do, I suggest chainmail be halfway in between. Still not sure what gold should do, but it has to be unique.

Gold should be anti-magic armour or something.
