Let's make tests without first consulting the playerbase to see their opinion.

Another 100% infallible plan by the fantastic administration.

By now, some of you may have noticed some rather important changes to the forums that you may or may not have been expecting. The two I am here to discuss are changes that have been long overdue, as both were discussed months ago and were changes we the staff told the players we'd do (but never did, obviously).

Also, lose the self entitlement. As amusing as it is to us, it won't gain you anything other than a ban.

A ban for voicing my opinion? How pleasant. I'm sure it's very amusing, Rittsy, but I don't have any percieved entitlement to change jack, but I do have a right to my opinion. I stated, in a slightly sarcastic way, that I was displeased with the change. I didn't claim in that post that I had the ability to change it, or that I had a right to, or anything else.

The Rep I'm not too fussed about; don't entirely see why it needed removal when FM's can quite easily hand out bans and other punishment for intentionally flamatory/offensive posts, but whatever. As for the status updates, not liking it. It might not seem much, but I suddenly feel... so disconnected from the community. It's one of the only ways we really communicate with one another and socialise without being friends or in-game. Are you going to remove posting rights without approval from at least 5 GM's who've looked over it next, for fear the response may contain content that might offend a few people? Sorry for the smart-ass remark, but that's honestly the direction it feels we're going towards, this being just a minor start.

Truth be told, this is probably for the best. Let's be honest, people. The statuses are usually nothing more than a conglomeration of insults, one-sided debates, and raging. They're completely arbitrary, and I'd honestly much prefer a little quick news bar. Why not use the blogs section of the site for this, instead, people? It's... certainly not as convenient, but it's right there, on the top bar.

Edit: The question was directed at people who use the statuses often, not the staff.

I have to axe, what are yew doing this fir? I wooden have expected these changes, I thought the staff was all bark and no bite. Where will players grove to find hilarious druid puns? Guilds will have to branch out now which willow be hard. I'm knot joking. We must turn over a new leaf in order to get to the root of the problem.

We don't ban, or even warn, players for simply "voicing their opinions". However, there is a huge difference between that and being inflammatory, which WILL get you punished. I don't care what it is you have to say, say it respectfully and maturely or face the consequences.

To think I was within 50 reputation to 1,000... why... :-(

I only see this when there's also several forum posts up that are experiencing the exact same thing, making this meaningless. In my experience, I enjoy just throwing up a status update to see some funny comments and get a laugh. 99% of the time, I just see funny things being said in status updates. Do we really need to go to the extent of posting a thread just to make a funny comment so everyone can laugh? Honestly, it's such a simple thing that is used more for a few giggles than it is 'one-sided' comments.

Eh, I guess you do have a point. Maybe, there could be two news feeds? I'm sure IPB has that functionality. One that filters only to people with certain ranks/tags/whatever IPB calls them (the staff, for the actual quick news bar), then one further down on the page (probably below the latest threads and such?) that feeds from players.

Too bad there isn't a dislike button.

Rep removal I don't mind, but statuses?  Ouch.  Just police them harder, just because some people have been inflammatory (In fact, I thought we were well and truly out of nasteh flamewars of the Fringe when ideas like this were first proposed,) doesn't mean everyone should get the axe.

P.S.  Ideas like this should be on the surveys.

That actually seems like a fairly good idea.

As some might say "For what pvrpose".

I don't know. It just feels kinda weird. If you can give a good reason why these changes were made that makes sense i'll be content.
