Magic Plugin

This is really simple: when is it getting released? I recall it being said that, sometime after 4.0's launch, the magic plugin would be released. Well... when's that?

Development on the magic plugin slowed to a halt as it is currently not a priority.

Just wondering.

Can it not be released, as I recall the basics to what have been adequate to the "adept" tier if you call it in the magic plugin has been finished.

Just allow people to get a feel around and get to this stage and add the other stages on wards when they are finished, add new spells as we go. So players can express their feelings about it? I am not sure if this is possible but it may work to help satisfy the player-base wanting the plugin.

Edit:

What I meant was, release the magic plugin to the "Adept" stage, people can work their way up to it. When the other stages are complete add them in and people can work themselves up from that?

If you look at it, it can be a better system then seeing an apprentice 'mage' go to an master ' mage ' in one month of the plugin being fully released. In the way I suggested here is that release the stages when they are completed, in this way you can release the master ' mage ' stage of the plugin 5 months down the line.

If this makes any sense.

I don't know all the details. But there was some issues with the plugin (in whatever state is was in) that arose in the review by the Admins. I suppose as with many things on this server, if you can show that there are enough behind something then get the petition going. Just because it isn't a priority now, doesn't mean that the community can't make it one.

I respect the Tech Team, I think its wonderful that they're putting their free time into this. And they're amazing coders. But saying that, they're far too ambitious for their own good and our own good. Lord of The Craft has needed a magic plugin for some time, but to make our own to hand craft it, not only that but to do it at such a level. It seems unneeded, there are pre-existing magic/class plugins that can already suit our needs with a slight tweak.

Its a bit late to say this I know, but we could've installed countless and optimised them to the servers needs with the times its taken to even get this far.

I put magic plugin development on hold with Sporadic, my studies started this month as most people have and I made the utmost effort to make sure I get off on a good start for the school year.

Development may resume, it's just about finished anyways, and yes we are very ambitious yet the project is coming to a close, just not now-- I don't have the time to spare. Hopefully that answers your question, I can't give any dates unfortunately as that is not my style. ^-^

Honestly though who needs fancy plugins when you have pink emotes ><

On the serious side though, I am not really to keen about a magic plugin, now I know it can be used as a way to improve and even flesh out RP, but it's just a plugin, if I wanted some pew pews and magic missles I would have went to Skyrin, ;). Some people treat it as if it's a massive new thing, I would have to decline, yes it is the Superman of all plugins, but this is an RP server ya'll. I will just end this here before it comes to a PVP thread or something dumb like that, rant over ya'll.

Thanks, Jack.

EDIT: when you are reading this read it with a southern accent

I am finding this a rather bitter pill to swallow if I am honest. I have heard completely different stories as to why the magic plugin has not been released which has probably made this seem more negative than it actually should be and for that I apologise. I and I think numerous other people agreed to PvP default way back when because we thought the magic plugin would not be put on hold again, And now without a magic plugin I have to use a sword and armour despite the fact my character is an old man who has used magic most of his life. It's such a pain the ass to have someone wave something in your face and then ****** it away. It's really not fair. If you can't deliver, Tell us. It is far easier than just sitting there hoping everyone has forgot.

Can I ask why no one else can bug fix/tweak the code. That isn't that difficult at all.

The final point, If all the work is done could you not simply just put it for a test run on the server to see how it goes?

The thing is, I'd have time to bugfix and tweak the magic plugin to get it released. I've actually made some good process going through the plugin and getting the meat of the codework sorted. That's not the most strenuous of endaevours that remains. The biggest task will be the proper handling of player reception, ensuring the feedback gets listened to. Everyone is very passionate about this plugin, from the newbies to the oldest admins. As soon as the magic plugin is tested/released/previewed, they're all going to come down. TT is small if we don't have the throughput to deal with all the feedback it's going to be an unmitigated distaster.

I understand some people will believe that any magic plugin is better than no magic plugin. This is a valid opinion to be sure. But understand not everybody thinks so.

I'm not saying that any magic plugin is better than none, The main reason is that once again it has been delayed and no information was passed to the players. If you want to see how people will respond to it, Do a beta with the current version, Kill two birds with one stone. You will get to find bugs and stuff whilst getting a general view of how the server feel about it. I can think of no one better to test it than the people who will actually use it.

The magic plugin project had been in the works for almost 3 years. When it's close to completion, why drop it to work on something else?

Could you at least let people beta test it for you instead of only letting a few people test it and get one side of it, make a public server, allow people to.join and play with it, you'll get some great feedback just like we did with nexus crafting

Heard Telanir rage quitted it and now the good coders have to fix his bad code and finish the plugin.

There was a test run of Nexus-Magic at the same time as crafting. At the time, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive (which you could argue is a misrepresentation as people's general positive feelings towards plugins is rarely in the 'overwhelming' catagory) The teaching system has since been coded but due to its nature it cannot be tested by a small group for a small period of time. Beta testers tend to only 'test' as long as they need to get a sneak preview, not long enough for us to get substantive feedback

Having to handle player reception is a lot more exhausting than you might think. Magic plugin will be unrivaled in player and staff emotions. We want to be prepared.

Which is fortunately false. Telanir is still around, but it's true I've been doing the majority of coding for the last few months, which includes the completion of the nexus plugins (of which magic is a subplugin).
