The Order of St. Julia

Founded in 1519 by Sister Lorina of Vekaro and authorized by High Pontiff Daniel II, the Order of Saint Julia is an organization dedicated to the principles embodied by their patron saint – chastity, purity, loyalty, and the ability to resist wickedness and temptation.

 

Our mission is simple – to lead those in darkness back home to the Lord. To cast out wickedness. To convert the heathen. To condemn the heretic. And to live by St. Julia’s glorious example.

 

The Story of St. Julia

“And all took concubines, except for Horen, who took only one wife. And her name was Julia, and he kept their union holy.” – Book of Horen, Verse II, The Scroll of Gospel

 

GOD, having made his Creation manifest, formed four sons out of mud and clay. The eldest was fair Malin, who rose from the forest loam. The second was Urugan, carved from stone. The third was Krug, born of scathing desert sand. And the final son was Horen, born from the rich earth of the fields.

 

As time passed, all of the brothers became concerned with worldly matters and forgot their duties unto GOD. All except Horen, who had no other pleasure but to worship HIM. All of the brothers took many wives and lovers, except for Horen, who chose but one bride - JULIA.

 

A constant companion and wise adviser, Julia stood steadfast at Horen’s side, aiding him in every endeavor. She bore Horen three sons – Godwyn, Harren, and Joren. When Horen was called by God to journey to the Grotto of Gamesh, he left his people in Julia’s tender care.

 

Before departing, Horen describe the form of Iblees to Julia, so that she might defend their people. Julia, ever wary of evil, gathered her three sons inside their holy tabernacle and bade them remain there until their father’s return. Alone, Julia walked the camp at night, guarding her people against the Iblees. Wherever and whenever he reared his ugly head, she bravely cast him out with naught but the strength of her heart.

 

Iblees devised a plan to corrupt the pure-hearted Julia, so that he may feast upon the souls of early man. Iblees tempted a man in the camp by the name of Saul. He offered Saul the guise of Horen, so that Saul could steal Horen’s riches and bed Horen’s wife. However, Julia, who was wise to the Denier’s tricks and schemes, was not fooled. She protected her family inside the holy tabernacle and refused to truck with Saul. Once Horen returned, Julia and her husband cast the Denier and his minion out together.

 

After her death, Julia rose to the Sixth Sky and became the patron Saint of Matrimony, Family, and Exorcism. It is in her name that we pray. It is in her name that we act.

 

About the Order

 

The Benefits of Sisterhood

 

“Why should I become a nun?” you might ask. The benefits of joining the Order of St. Julia are many and varied. Some of the top benefits include –

 

1. A top-ranked education. The Sisters of St. Julia learn from some of the best holy scholars in the entire kingdom. The Sisters attend a weekly meeting to read, discuss, and learn from the Holy Scrolls. Education is encouraged for advancement in the Order.

2. Free food and housing. All Sisters are housed within the convent building, which has a comfortable dormitory. Every Sister gets her own room within the dormitory. The convent is quiet, private, and secure with its own self-sustaining vegetable garden.

3. Membership in an inclusive community. Nuns call each other “Sister” for a reason. The sisterhood is like unto a family. Meet women with whom you can talk and confide in.

4. Do good for the world. As a Sister of the Faith, you will perform acts of charity and convert heathens to the Light of God. You will teach, preach, and benefit society with your work.

5. Become mentally and physically healthy through your work. The life of a nun is both spiritually and physically cleansing.

 

How to Join

 

St. Julia embodies a standard of physical and mental purity to which all Sisters must adhere. All who follow her example are welcome in the Sisterhood. Simply contact the Abbess to begin your initiation.

 

All sworn Sisters must be female and elect to live in the convent. Women of any age, color, and race are accepted, as long as they convert to Canonism. Sisters of the Order belong to St. Julia until their death or until such time as they are removed from the Order. Sworn sisters must adhere to the tenets of the Order or face demotion or removal.

 

The Order does accept male volunteers. These volunteers do not have to take vows and may quit at any time. They will not be housed within the convent. It is understood that they are helping out of reverence for St. Julia and the goodness of their hearts.

 

Rules

 

-All Sisters of St. Julia must take a vow of poverty, chastity, nonviolence, and sobriety.

-All Sisters will be baptized Canonists and adhere to the True Faith. If they are not Canonist, they must convert and be baptized into the Church.

-All Sisters will be housed within the convent.

-Upon meeting a heathen or a heretic, a Sister must try her best to convert him to the True Faith.

-All Sisters will be required to perform an act of charity once a Saint’s Week.

-All Sisters will attend Scroll Study and Discussion once a week. [This rule is flexible. Contact Urara if there are extenuating OOC circumstances]

-All Sisters of St. Julia must ward against vanity. Sisters will be asked to either cut or conceal their hair and refrain from wearing makeup or jewelry.

-All Sisters of Saint Julia will wear the white habit. They shall not be seen wearing civilian attire in public.

 

Ranks

 

Volunteer – Volunteers take no vows and wear no uniforms. Volunteers may be male or female. Volunteers may be of any race, age, or marital status. Volunteers may quit at any time and they are not housed within the convent. They are to be treated with respect by sworn Sisters, for they donate their time freely out of their hearts. Volunteers must in exchange assist the Sisters with any request.

 

 

 

Initiate – A new member of the Order. Initiates have not yet taken their vows. They wear a simple white frock. They must be female and currently unmarried. Initiates will be assigned to shadow a Sister and observe her behavior. Initiates will be required to attend Scroll Study and perform acts of charity. The period of Initiation lasts one Saint’s Week. At the end of the Saint’s Week, the Initiate will be given the choice to join the Order. If they choose to join, they will be given an Initiation task. Upon the task’s completion, they may take their vows.

 

 

 

Sister – Sisters are sworn members of the Order. They wear a white habit, a cap, and must cut their hair to chin length. They adhere to all the Order’s rules and oaths and are housed within the convent. They must attend Scroll Study and perform one act of charity per Saint’s Week. Sisters will be given various tasks and chores by their abbess, which they must perform to the best of their ability.

 

Abbess – The leader of the convent. The abbess wears a white habit and a cap, as well as a shawl. The Abbess assigns Initiation tasks, promotes Initiates, promotes Sisters, and delegates assignments to Sisters. The Abbess typically leads weekly Scroll Study, meditation, and prayer. The Abbess also leads and plans convent wide initiatives. The current Abbess is Sister Lorina of Vekaro.
