Siege

 

London has been under siege for nearly a year now after a political fall out between nations. People believed it wouldn’t last long, but it seems they were proven wrong...  It was decided that the city would be sealed off, left to the mercy of the rest of the world as an atonement for the error that the country had made. Unfortunately, this was carried out ruthlessly and quickly, not allowing the residents of the city to evacuate. With people being left trapped inside, the armies surrounding them relentlessly rained down with artillery, rolled over streets and homes with tanks and fired upon anyone deemed as threatening. Day remains a dangerous time to go out due to soldiers constantly patrolling, whilst night entails a mass scavenge of whatever might be left in the burning rubble. Now that a year has just about passed, people have started getting ‘used’ to this life. Groups being formed, lifestyles adapting and ‘habits’ being picked up. Bandits, thugs, traders, medics - all now very common professions - started arising as citizens were forced to evolve... or burn with the city.

 

This is a survival Forum RP thread, portrayed in a realistic setting. I based this idea off of a game called This War of Mine, a very fun game where you control a group of survivors as they struggle to scrape by in this horrid setting. I’d recommend go looking at it if you’re still struggling to grasp the concept as a lot of my ideas will have come from there. The basis of this FRP is as follows:

 

You will create a character - a survivor of this city - and you will be grouped up with other members that partake in this. Depending on how many play, the maximum amount of people per group will be about 3-5, so as to have multiple groups and factions running around the city and doing their own thing at the same time. Whether it be making alliances with each other, trading goods each other need or holding them hostage for food and water - that is entirely choice.

 

You will have the day to plan and manage - you and your housemates / group will have the day time (very dangerous to go out in due to soldiers patrolling the streets and gunning down most people) to plan who will scavenge throughout the night, how you can improve your shelter by either creating new appliances, furniture and tools or patching up holes in the walls, reinforcing the doors or clearing out previously inaccessible areas. In this time you can also talk to your fellow survivors to help keep spirits high and avoid going insane, as well as eat food and stay healthy. You will need to have one unit of water per two days or suffer from dehydration, and one unity of food per four days, or suffer from starvation.

 

You will have the night to scavenge and act - (normally) one of your housemates will have to go out at night, only one (most of the time), and that is up to the group to decide who that be - whether someone is forced into it or not is completely your choice. At night, you will choose one of a few places to head to and gather supplies. Depending on where you go to, you’ll find different things, it will take longer or shorter amounts of time (meaning you’ll have less time to scavenge), have different amounts of danger (there might be others there already!) and so on. You’ll find food, water, scrap metal, wood and fabric. With scrap metal, wood and fabric, you can create all sorts of useful things. Remember that you will not be allowed to sleep, thus you’ll have to do it some other time. Other house members staying may also stay awake at night, if they wish to.

 

Every household will contain somewhere suitable for starting a fire to cook food and stay warm, one chair and a table, basic books on ‘crafting’ things and some areas to store materials. As you continue to survive, knowledge / acquisition of more advanced appliances or different types of furniture will become available to you. They will also all start with an even/fair amount of downfalls or problems with them for each group to fix.

 

Note: The addictions you can have are caffeine and tobacco for now, two things that are rather hard to come by in the city. Having an addiction results in being able to make a stronger character from the start, but will be a heavy draw back later on if you can’t find whatever it is they crave.

 

Rules

No powergaming.

No metagaming.

No cheating.

The final decision on whether a character is PKed or not lies with me and the creator of said character. However, in most scenarios you WILL likely PK, so be warned.

You may not start with any weapons other than a fragile/weak blade.

You may not start with more than one unit of food or water.

No bringing OOC into IC and vice versa.

Brief backstory (optional): Coming from the rough, crime ridden streets of moss side Jimmy D was brought up with 3 brothers and sisters in a council house by a single mother, his mother had a heroin addiction and often abused them. Jimmy D went to a public school and due to his naturally athletic genes he excelled in P.E. When he reached Y9 Jimmy D was kicked out of school permanently, thus failing all of his GCSE's, He took to the streets at the tender age of 14 and began his life of crime, he was given the nickname 'Jimmy D' over his birth name of James by his fellow thugs, one of them being 'Big T'

Brief backstory (optional): Moved from Norway to Moss Side in Manchester at the age of five alongside his lawyer of a father and home-working mom. Met Jimmy D at school where they became good friends!

Brief backstory (optional): Raj Singh was born in Hounslow, England. He lived there with his family, which consisted of his father, his mother, his grandfather and his brother and sister. Raj's father owned a corner shop, which Raj would then own later on in his life.
