Wanted to have a discussion with the current community about a topic that I have pondered for quite awhile.

It used to be that things like harpies and other magical entities, factions & creatures appeared once in a blue moon. It was controversial when harpies began to pop up more frequently in Anthos. Now it isn't so much. I would actually guess that at least 75%  of the events done are of magical/creature origin.

What this may mean? It may mean that our community thirsts for that type of event and that we exist in a witcher-like level of fantasy. It could also mean that players have become desensitized and they need more, bigger & badder things to RP against.

What my question is what do you think about this? Do you endorse a higher fantasy level? Or maybe you would rather we put the brake on some of the creature events and delve into things like bandits, barbarians and pirates? Thoughts? Observations?

I'm in favor of a high-fantasy setting, simply because it provides more venues of roleplay and caters to a larger spectrum of player.

We do need more humanized villains, tbh. Having a dragon or a kraken pop up every rp month seems silly to me...

I think we do not need to lower the fantasy, since it'd be unfair to take fantasy out of people who applied to a fantasy server.

That said, I think a certain portion of the community would enjoy a more...martial threat rather than magical, and we haven't really had that. I mean, we talk about native people's that have, effectively died and what is left is their undead/feral peeps.

Honestly, who's to say there isn't a Oren sized empire beyond the realm we play that is completely unsympathetic to our characters and can only be met with raw force. It wouldnt' be my personal cup of tea but I can see where other people are coming from.

Basically, a completely mortal, mundane, and foreign threat?

I think that if we could find a solid balance and establish some really solid events on both fantasy and non-fantasy spectrum's then those who do not want to partake in fantasy Roleplay will have an event outlet. Just a suggestion! Personally would like more fantasy. :D

May I select both? Bandit Pixies and other interesting creatures. I always love it when a harmless looking creature ends up being the ban of your existence for a day or two.

"I once found a small child upon the gold road, half starved and pleading for a bit of coin. I took him in, gave him a place to rest and plenty to eat. I set him about learning many different things to see what might interest him. Only to discover he was the son of Iblees, which brought great strife to my little island home."

We rarely accurately predict the path on which we travel, being so near to us our own judgements blind and betray us.

I personally would support a higher fantasy setting. This allows for LOTC to be LOTC, where it doesn't have to follow strict rules of IRL. Oh yeah, and with that an antagonist would be nice... :P

I'd love to have a large scale war against a foreign faction as large or larger than Oren. The only problem is the server would crash during a large fight because it'd probably be 2-300 vs 5-600 mobs or something ridiculous like that. There's a lot of untapped potential in an antag like that though. Originally the Anthos antag was meant to be something like that, but it ran into problem after problem. Anyways, I'd really like to see a big, non-magical (in terms of existence) threat. A foreign empire with mage battalions sounds cool though.

Actually the Bohra were quite successful. They were replaced before they had a chance to do anything really.

A lot of us Ex-Undead still have our characters, but they are now mortal soooo yeah, still waiting to turn back XD...... Still, I loved playing an antag and made some really close friends from it. The problem with server antags are that after the Undead and even during their time, many didn't like them. I personally speak for myself and a few other of the Undead, that we would do anything it takes to come back. However that is just a dream that will never come true. RIP My Undead Fam

For events, I personally think events that don't require you to speak with an event team member beforehand would also be cool. Excluding monster hunts, Delves, and other planned events. What ever happened to a giant stumbling into the Caliphate and attacking the gates or outer city. Or maybe a small bandit group made of ets and normal players that make a base camp nearby Felsen causing ruckus (Ruckus not necessarily killing) which would get the military to intervene and attack them. Things like that I think could really make the server, and keep players online as it can really make a player who hadn't done much rp that days day to have RP randomly brought to them and it not being pre planned.

This idea doesn't mean we should have Delves or preplanned events. I just feel that on a daily basis there should be more . spur of the moment events that don't necessarily mean a whole lot but can be miscellaneous fun. While preplanned events and delves could hold more weight. The spur of the moment events though being like a filler episode in a tv show while you wait for the next story arc. Atleast it's something to do in the meantime, or even open up the story arc itself leading to larger events.

As for fantasy setting I believe high fantasy would work best as stated before it opens up more routes for RP for everyone. Though that doesn't mean different areas can't contrast eachother while elves are more high fantasy, humans and felsen could still be more witcher-esk.

I never really got to RP with the bohra, although from what I heard I wish I would have been able to. What I was referring to was the first edition Setherien antag. The way we were told spies had already infiltrated most of the governments. The way that there were brain borers that could take over and manipulate political characters to help the enemy's cause. Giant plot devices like the massive sea dragon thing that made it so you couldn't sail to the north without getting killed. Not to mention a military that was shown to be organized and capable. Those sort of things, but without all the magical mumbo jumbo.

@Booklight, the ET rarely deal in bandit events because it is something that a player will almost always do. There is plenty of banditry about. However, it's not something that hasn't happened in the past. If people enjoy that sort of thing, then perhaps an ET can help sponsor a small group of players by joining in with them and aiding them (without using pex abusively, of course) and provide the roleplay to that populace.
