THE IMPERIAL STATE MILITARY

“We, the Dragon’s Flame”

Since glorious God’s creation, there has been sin, and war.  Yet a steel song rings from the souls of all the loyal men of the Great Empire, to protect their home from those vices and ambitions which brings unto us the fire of war. But we shall be tempered in that very flame.

RANKS

Each and every soldier in the Imperial State Military can be identified by their rank, and their regiment. The rank of each soldier is a chain that binds, no man may violate the chain of command within or outside of their own regiment. All soldiers are subject to all superiors, regardless of their regiment. Soldiers are divided into regiments based on their place of residence, and their previously ascertained skills as a combatant.

(SENIOR COMMAND)

Generalissimo

The most senior ranking member of the Imperial State Army, the figurehead and overseer of the entire army. He has the power to call the banners of all the Lords of the realm with Imperial Authority.

Fieldmarshal

Fieldmarshals are appointed to individual campaigns by the Generalissimo or the Imperial Crown. They are commanders of the entire Orenian military during their respective campaign, and answer solel to the Generalissimo. They too may call the Lordly Banners.

Colonel

The Colonels of the Empire are masters of their individual regiment. They are charged with maintaining and training the regiments, and being certain they are prepared, in a moment’s notice, to defend all edges of the Empire.

Commissar

The Commissar is a rank is in charge of discipline and ensuring loyalty and uniformity is kept by the various regiments and units, which often differ from each other culturally. Additionally charged with the organization of the Army’s rations, arms and armor. Generally not a commander but exercises judicial authority over everyone beneath his rank in the army.

Decurion

The Decurion must be a skilled and experienced commander, capable of leading raids and skirmishes. The Decurion is often in command of a brigade or siege battery - extremely skilled leaders they join together to aid in counselling their respective Colonel.

(JUNIOR COMMAND)

Ensign

The Ensign is a supremely skilled Enlisted man, whose prowess is well acknowledged and respected. Answering only to the High Command, the Ensigns are often charged with the organization of rations, arms and armor within their respective regiment.

Color Sergeant

The Color Sergeant bears the flag of their respective regiment, a focal point for rallying - the position connotes one of the greatest honours possible for a soldier to achieve. Losing the flag or dropping it is one of the greatest dishonours that a soldier, and their entire regiment, can be faced with - in battle the first thing that a man will look for is the flag.

Sergeant-at-Arms

The Sergeant-at-Arms is the highest ranking soldier enlisted within the ranks, honed and experienced at both the art of fighting and leading war parties. Widely respected by all soldiers under them even ensigns and lower ranked noble-men will look to him for guidance in their early days of command.

Sergeant

The lowest rank of command, the Sergeants are veteran infantry who have proven their skill at command and aid in leading minor parties. Often involved with reconnaissance or tasks of minor espionage they command forces on the flanks of regiments; key to smaller conflicts.

(ENLISTED)

Decanus

These armigers are often the most skilled soldiers in the entire force, well trained and recognised for what are often truly exemplary skills at combat and fighting they are respected by soldiers and the most reliable component of the force; having fought for multiple years.

Man-at-Arms

Men-at-Arms are the standard infantryman of the Imperial Army, heavily equipped and fully initiated into the group. Receiving an honest and respectable pay now that they have passed their training these are the backbone of the Army and the core troop - the force is built on the hard work and toil of these milites.

Footman

Footmen are recruits to the Imperial Army, only beginning their long path of service to the regime and their training in both physical areas, swordsmanship, and the ideologies of the group. They learn of the army’s, and the wider empire’s, history and structure as a whole.

Regiments

The regiment is the model unit of Imperial military organization.  There are, as of 1528, approximately 31 regiments of infantry equaling 77,500 men, 16 regiments of cavalry equaling 16,000 horse, and 5 siege batteries equaling roughly 1,800 artillery personnel.  This puts Oren’s standing military at a count of approximately 100,000 men, little more than half the total number of Orenian combatants before the civil war between Adria and Savoy now known as the Great Brother War.  Oren’s manpower is in a state of rebirth since then, the Horenic Restoration coinciding with a rapid rise in new births.

The first 4 regiments of the Army are known as Guard Regiments, the finest of men.

1st - Impera Guard Regiment - Imperial Executor Vanderus de Sola

-Imperial Crownlander Lifeguards, called the Nauzica Guard

-Imperial Rhosweni Brigade

    ^-Vlenmyr Siege Battery

2nd - Esheveurd Guard Regiment - Imperial Colonel Denis de Bar

    -Savoyard Greatswords, called the Vindicators

        ^-Peremont Siege Battery

3rd - Levonian Guard Regiment - Imperial Colonel Otto Sarkozic

-Imperial Hanseatic Riders, called the Black Reiters

    -Levonian Huntsmen, called the Jaegers

4th - Courlander Guard Regiment - Imperial Colonel Percival Staunton

-Rigan Highlanders, called the Staunton Guard

Enlistment

An Imperial Soldier’s pay is determined by their respective Colonel. It differs in situations of reprimand, merit, rank, and so on. To join the Imperial State Army, one must prove themselves a loyal citizen of the Holy Orenian Empire. They may be immediately promoted depending on previous experience, but more often than not they will be given the rank Footman, which garners no pay, in order to determine their loyalty in a preliminary fashion before fully initiating them into the Army.
