Melancholy

Sunlight dancing on the wall
Outside yonder, sparse birds’ call
Dust and soot upon the mantle
Waxen sticks of unkempt candles
Daylight dusking, hour by hour
Sitting idle in dull, furnished bower
Lingering absent in this room
Will for movement weak and cowered.

Never moving from this spot,
Days’ tasks are over, all the lot
Mindfulness waning, minute by minute
The daily grind, twisting, turning oft patience
The desire to feel; to think; more and more finite
Though the day is over, there is much to be done
Yet here, sat still, lounging limp at a tilt
Distracted too much by stinging thoughts
And mental churning;
These feelings within, once forgotten, weighing tons.

Though as they pass, motivation returns
No longer distract by minds’ idle burns
So up from this seat and unto the keyboard
Where upon dazzling screen ones’ mind can be poured
But again, the next day, the thoughts would continue
Brought by exhaustion, absence, and work’s lonely folly
With cycle repeating, typing onward to give proper indue
Tirelessly enduring the old melancholy.

This is probably the first piece of poetry I've ever developed, so this is definitely new to me. I hope to produce more in due time!
