Oren Guard is not as it seems...

*Letter scattered throughout the streets of Al'Khazar*

Dear people of Oren,

The Oren Guard is not what it is cracked up to be. Recruits sign up, imagining glamour, fame, and fortune. They think that they will chase down criminals, fight undead, and protect the citizens of Oren. The Oren guard, in reality, is not all that. The recruits' life is a paradox. Recruits need to have the ability to wield iron swords, therefore they need to train a lot. Recruits also need to be on gate duty a lot, or else they will be fired for laziness. So if you go on gate duty and not train, you cannot get paid or get a promotion. But if you train and not go on gate duty, you get fired for neglecting duty. We are required to question anyone who enters the city, yet if we question an Ascended, we get reprimanded. We break the rules, we get in trouble. We follow the rules, we still get in trouble.

Today, I was fired from the Oren Guard. Their excuse? Not being on duty enough ((Well I'm sorry that I live in a different time zone and train a lot because I want to be promoted))and complaining ((Not a really a legit reason. I used /tell with Hayden and Jadles and it was all ooc and jokes)). Felix told me that there are too many guards now and some must be cut. Funny thing is, I am the one of the most skilled with the sword in the guard ((lvl 37)), with Hayden as the most skilled((? correct me if I am wrong on that one)) ((40+)). Also, if we have too many guards, why is the gate almost never manned? So the guard fires members who are good with a sword but didn't do a lot of gate duty. Well, when the undead attack, I'm sure that knowing how to open the gate will really save oren. "DIE UNDEA- wait let me get the gate for your minions". And while all the useless recruits are getting slaughtered, the fired guards who can actually fight aren't there. Felix said I may be re-hired, but honestly, I don't care anymore. If this is how the guard treats its members, I don't want to be a part of this corrupt organization. I go a different path now...

Felix, your day will come.

-H.

((And tbh Felix, I don't see you go on a lot yourself))

This is very grim news. Oren is already in a state of emergency, we cannot afford for the humans to falter in this time of struggle.

If anything i believe that there needs to be more Oren guards, including the men that patrol the roads and scout the area, maybe even some specialist forces. Often have i been in Alkhazar and seen only one or no guards, this would be of no good of an attack by anyone let alone the undead, anyone that wanted to could take the capital without much resistance, which needs to be changed soon.

Well i'm sorry you feel so angered by this, but I feel some of your facts are wrong...

No one ever said it was a job of fame and glory and fortune! It's hard work, and often unrewarding, and one of the duties is being on the gate. This is all about stopping undead and criminals roaming the city streets - which they seem to do too often, usually when a recruit is put on a post and decides its "too boring" and wanders off to seek fame, glory and fortune... Many of our other recruits have managed to level their skills and do assigned duties to a good standard and as a result have been promoted.

They also manage to address their officers with sir, or ma'am or their rank title, something you never managed to grasp... And the captain is right, there are too many guards who don't do their jobs, which is why they are fired.

You were highly regarded as a keen warrior within the guard, and it was decided these skills would suit a more outwardly aggressive group, of which the Oren Guard currently is not.

I thank you for your time and wish you good luck for the future.

((Just a little ooc note, which might clarify to you the decision taken - if you got any job, didn't turn up to work, and when you did complained about it, you'd be fired pretty quickly. We had been giving you advice and trying to help you for weeks and you ignored most of what we said. Put yourself in the officers shoes, are you really going to keep someone who very rarely listens, doesn't turn up for work, complains and is rude to their officers... ))

I would like to say that whenever I am in Oren the Guards are useless brutes who do nothing at all , One of them actually asked me to fight them because I didnt believe they should arrest somebody! The Oren Guard have to little guards , No respect , no organisation and overall are not good Guards. They think that they are above everybody else and that everybody else is "scum" or "fools" and it is quite honestly a disgrace. The King needs to take action or at least The Lady High Constable or the Captain as the guard are abosolutely disgraceful.

((We do take time-zones into account, but he was seen online quiet often and the door to be rehired was left open...))

((jadles you shouldn't know who I am.... The signature just said "H". And I was online a lot but I would afk A LOT because my parents always come in and I'm sneaking on. And jadles, please tell me how I complained. Sorry about not saying sir or ma'am, but I believe in real life military doctrine where a soldier doesn't say "sir" while on duty or in combat, and Oren is always in a state of combat because of the undead))

-snip-

Oh please get rid of that signature. It is waaaay too big and takes more place than all the text :s

On topic, I think the guards are not at fault here. It is the organization above that has to be fixed. No matter how much a guard captain says that everything is fine and dandy, this topic comes up more often than I hear about undead attacks, which must mean that it carries a seed of truth. As Oren is the barricade against the undead, I think the leaders of Oren really have to reorganize the Oren Guard.

Maybe take away the current Captains and take in new fresh people to organize it.Sometimes you have to take away the chiefs of an department, to make it good, not the "low workers", and that is what has to be done here I think, when this issue has been so long...

((I was assuming that seeing as who was just fired, who's name began with H that it was your character. If that isn't valid then disregard the post, I was only trying to give you the reasons you asked for, as I had seen and heard it ic. You were heard complaining about being bored and were then seen wandering off. This was in rp, you could've said brb in ooc or asked for a break, which are usually always granted. As for the "sir" it is just how this particular guard operates in rp and was mentioned on a few occasions. Like i said, the door was left open, so if you want to come and chat about rejoining we can do that. ))
