The Scenario

The date is August 20th, 1941. Japan and the United States look at one another from across the Pacific with incredible suspicion as the Americans demand that Japan halt its expansion in China. Emperor Hirohito refuses to relent, pressing ever further into South East Asia as Japanese ground and naval forces seem to cast a terrible shadow over the Philippines.

Meanwhile in Europe, fighting between the Germans and Soviets continue to intensify as the Germans appear in arms reach of Moscow with their armies conquering vast swaths of territory from Western Ukraine up into Latvia. In Britain, Winston Churchill desperately tries to rally the people of the British Empire against the Germans and keep spirits high while pushing U.S. President Roosevelt at every turn to do more and more to support the fledgling Empire and hopefully join the war on its behalf.

In North Africa, the mediocre Italian army with German support pushes without much success against German positions in Egypt with the ultimate goal of wresting away control of the Suez and ultimately the Middle East. Another issue in the region comes in the form of French Syria, one of several Free French colonies refusing to give in to Axis demands and inspired by the leadership of General Charles de Gaulle. If the Germans can get ahold of the oil their forces will finally have the surplus of supplies required to put them over the top against the reeling Allied Powers.

Regno d'Italia

Benito Mussolini found himself being forced to face the facts. The Italian military, while one of the most advanced in the 30's, had been outclassed by even the Balkans. The Italian biplanes that had been the bulk of their forces at the beginning of the war had been beaten back by the superior Allied monoplanes, and Italian monoplane fighters numbered only 1,400 in total, though Italy had manufactured almost 400 bombers in addition. Italian tanks were light compared to any of the others, and though the army had incredible valor, the troops were undersupplied and leadership was spread thin. The Bersaglieri, Alpini, and Paracadutisti divisions were Italy's best trained, yet even they found themselves barely supplied. Italian tanks were deathtraps for their drivers and the navy had suffered drastically in Taranto, only now recovering. Over thirteen thousand infantry had died in Greece, and fifty thousand more wounded, and the Italians in Africa were only just now surging back with the assistance of Germany. Malta continued to shell Italian convoys and manufacturing was nowhere near the maximum possible. Italy was a young country, so had all the potential in the world, but it would have to capitalize.

To capitalize, Mussolini would first have to remove the other Fascists blocking his complete leadership. His Blackshirts invade the homes of various opponents, stealing them away in the black of night and executing them far from civilization. This would give him the opportunity to pass reforms in the interim period, while he was the only real leader of the party, and allow him to place pro-Mussolini leadership in the new positions.

On the home front, hundreds of factories are converted from consumer to capital, and any investment budget held by the government is used to build new automobile and airplane factories. Recruits are given proper training as opposed to the refresher courses most were receiving, which would inhibit Italy's reinforcements for at least a month. Almost a million of the 5.3 in service go back to training fields across the peninsula, with the best being placed into the Bersaglieri, Alpini, or Paracadutisti divisions. At the same time, many aged Italian bombers, which had achieved little, begin to be converted into dropships for paramilitary forces.

The manufacturing base was still just a fifth that of the Allied powers, so Italy would have to make do with what they had. Tankettes, of which there are almost 500 still in the Italian army, are scrapped and their parts used either for M13/40s or chassis for Semoventes. The Italian army in general begins a massive reorganization, turning its binary divisions into triangular ones, severely condensing the leadership of the army. The Italian Supreme Command is reformed to be a copy of the German General Staff, and creates a single headquarter in Rome that incorporates the branches of the Italian Armed Forces. In most theaters the Italian armed forces would be slightly disabled, moreso because the new Supreme Command focused most of its efforts on a particular operation.

Malta was first on the list of Italian targets. From it, Britain had been able to launch attacks against Italian convoys throughout the war, and Italy knew it had been bombed to near oblivion otherwise by the Regna Aeronautica. Using the Paracadutisti corps, Division Folgore, Italy launches Operation Herkules early and alone; The Italian navy, sans heavy ships, moves to divert British naval attention while nearly all of the Air Force launches from both Tunis and Sardinia towards the Maltese islands. Extensive planning had been done; Italian aerial mapping had given the locations of every fortification, artillery emplacement, and AA battery in Malta. ((This was actually done in preparation by the Italians for a proposed Operation Herkules, detailed here.)) Italy's navy has secured an assortment of ships almost as strange as that which had allowed the British to escape Dunkirk in the beginning of the war; multitudes of passenger ships, cargo ships, and motorboats, many with hastily equipped flak cannons. It would become obvious to Britain that this was an effort to take control of the Mediterranean before the Italians were utterly outclassed by the British, as many of the Italian Navy's light ships are stationed near the edges of the assault fleet to both defend the invasion force and act as bait for British ship-based cannons. The army sent over consists of 29,000 paratroopers and an amphibious invasion force of 70,000 supported by light armor and artillery, but it's apparent that much of it is at least slightly disorganized. Thanks to British codebreakers, the British can decide how they wish to defend the islands, and have enough time to possibly siphon troops from Egypt before the Italian forces arrive. They also learn that the paratroopers are scheduled to land on the Maltese heights sometime in the afternoon and the rest of the army to land just before midnight, leaving a little after sunset, and that there will be at least slight disorganization in the attack. As the invasion force moves out, four pre-war dreadnoughts are sent towards Africa to attempt to shell British ports, and two pre-war dreadnoughts are sent along the coast of Vichy France and Spain to attempt to shell Gibraltar. Finally, they learn that the invasion force is led by Chief of Staff Mario "the Black Beast" Roatta.

Germany is asked for blueprints or leases to ship-based radar equipment and if Italy could purchase a license to manufacture that equipment themselves.

"Heil Hitler!"

"Heil Hitler!"

"Heil Hitler!"

The words were cried out by many on the streets of the typically quaint little valley, the sentiment for Anschluss was great. Austria had already seen Germany flood into their borders with grand success, surely they would accept the little principality into the fold?

A vote would be held.

With the exclusion of Jews and other misfits from the vote, of course, it would be made clear;

Liechtenstein ist Deutschland.

A letter, with the approval of the people, would be sent to the Fuehrer with the signature of Prince Franz Joseph.

"Anschluss Uns."

“Deus, Patria, Familia.” - The lesson of Salazar

Portugal had been the greatest power Europe has ever seen, from the Americas to Nagasaki the flags of the small maritime country had been planted and a trading empire which eventually brought riches and prosperity to the land had flourished, but, all things must come to an end. The once proud nation now stood as a forgotten piece of land, almost as poor as it was before the great age of discovery.

Lisbonb4earthqke.thumb.jpeg.57190da8a299

There was a long and arduous task ahead of Salazar, a task of betterment, not only of Portugal but of his own personal character. For many years the Portuguese economy had been dependent on other countries, from wheat to coal, this would be no more. “Felizmente sós” that was what the name of the Salazarist doctrine was called, Proudly alone, Salazar ordered the country to be closed, no food imports all farmable land would be farmed, all workable mine would be worked, all damable river would be. This would be needed to sustain an independent country, which fell neither in the grasp of the Nazis nor the Allies.

But, an economy cannot survive solely on food, thus a country must establish economic ties. Salazar met with the German Ambassador proposing a deal. Tungsten, a resource that the Wehrmacht now needs if it wants to create explosives. Salazar wishes to sell Tungsten to the german war machine, for a price of course. Either german money or german equipment. [Pok please]

Salazar also wanted a more instructed nation, children in the Mocidade Portuguesa now had to go until 6th grade, with breaks in summer to harvest the wheat fields. New propaganda films where shot, showing great nationalism and patriotism

The Third Reich
August 20th, 1941

Military Overview

The armies of the Reich marched ceaselessly on into the vast Russian expanse, pushing ever forward into the ruined land left in the wake of the Soviet retreat. Reports from the front surged back to the Fuehrer all containing similar details; The Communists were on the run but supplies were running thin and the Wehrmacht would not reach Moscow before the first snows would begin to fall. This infuriated Hitler and he made sure his generals knew it, ranting to them about how the invasion ought to have not been delayed and cursing Mother Nature herself. If the Germans hoped to come out victorious, they would have to stop the advance.

This would be unacceptable.

With a renewed sense of fury, the advance began once again and the Fuehrer demanded that Leningrad be under siege by the First of September and sent word to the Ukrainians that they would, with support from a large contingent of the German Wehrmacht, have to move into the Caucasus by the middle of October otherwise they could very well lose their advantage.

----

Trade

The Reich accepts a trade deal for Tungsten with Portugal, ordering them to send supplies through Francoist Spain via land routes as the sea would be far too dangerous to send supplies across. U-Boats alone could not protect their trade, especially with the Britain's newfound skill in sinking the ships of the Reich.

Germany also offers Turkey the opportunity to sell some land in Thrace to Messerschmidt so they can build aircraft factories away from the prying eyes of the Allied powers. In exchange, the Turks would receive 1/3 of all aircraft produced from these facilities.

Mussolini receives the blueprints and licenses, though their radar equipment is primitive at best and nothing close to the quality of British radar. In exchange for these blueprints, Hitler demands that the Italians renew their offensive into Egypt, pressing hard for Alexandra.
----

Domestic Affairs

The forced imprisonment of dozens of ethnic and political dissidents continues across the Reich, especially in Poland and the Balkans where Slavs and Jews are sent to camps by the truckload for the crime of not being German, often accused of Communist activities in order to keep the support of the German people.

With the offer of Anschluss from Lichtenstein, the Fuehrer cannot help but to accept. About a thousand German regulars march into the country rather ceremoniously as Hitler himself makes an appearance in the small nation. The frenzied populace adores their new Fuehrer, and in return for their love they will gain his protection.

NATIONAL LEGIONARY STATE (ROMANIA)

Dank Romanian Folk Music

Spoiler

The Revolution had not come as a surprise, but it had come quickly. Soon, the familiar tricolors were not flying from government buildings and the homes of nationalists: a more sinister, abstract flag took their place. A black series of crosses on a green field, symbol of the national guard, was raised over Bucharest: a bold move in support of the Axis powers.

Once an ardent ally of the Entente, Romania saw no more reason to be acquainted with a distant, failing alliance. Russia had taken Bessarabia, and Hungary had its eyes set on Budapest. In order the maintain its borders, marked by the blood of martyrs fallen like flies during the first world war against the Central powers, Romania had to act wisely. Antonescu had to act wisely. Antonescu was the state.

220px-Ion_Antonescu.jpg

Maintaining the borders of Romania was the principal goal of everyone, from the lowly farmer to the powerful oligarch. Young men were signing up, voluntarily or not, for the Romanian Army almost faster than the state could equip them. By the summer of 1941, Romania had about 680,000 men under its command, stationed at the ready at the eastern front always prepared to pounce on a weak Odessa and on the now Russian occupied Bessarabia. The romanian soldier bore the iron cross nestled near his tricolor: never had an ally been so dedicated to a foreign cause.

"When it's a question of action against the slavs, you can always count on Romania."

-Antonescu to Hitler in 1941, ten days before Operation Barbarossa

Militaristic Actions:

2000px-Razboiul_Sfant_Contra_Bolsevismul

With a total number of 686,258 armed men under its control, built up by the national socialist Iron Guard of the National Legionary State of Romania, the Romanian army is a formidable force. The unfaltering dedication of the people to overtake Russian-occupied territories stolen from them during the reign of the ineffective Carol burns like a summer bushfire.

General Petre Dumitrescu, a battle hardened veteran who had served as a major in the first world war, has taken command of the first Army. On the eve of Operation Barbarossa, Romanian troops are moving east, readying to cross the River Prut into precarious Soviet territory. German generals had originally though of the plan, codenamed Operation Munchen. The mission is simple: storm the European Eastern front, capture Bessarabia and Bukovina, and meet with the Germans to further conquer soviet territory.

6Q6lCjt.png

With a large number of troops and able, fluent transportation, such an offensive would be facilitated. With German support at the ready, the Romanian army would prepare to march on the occupied Soviet positions, regaining those borders conquered under the weak reign of Carol.

German troops are allowed to use transportation systems to cross Romania, facilitating their entry into the Soviet Union. If the Germans are to choose to travel through one of their most dedicated allies, they can do so with all the comfort they could ever ask for.

Economic Actions:

War is by no means cheap, but Romania is by no means poor. By persecuting the Jewish residents of Romania and sequestrating their money and possessions, Romania was able to garner a sizable amount of money to expend on the war. Furthermore, by persecuting another minority group, business owners, Romania would be able to seize their funds and channel them towards weaponry and to feeding its economy.

Petroleum_field_at_Moreni.jpg

In order to facilitate troop movements, the National Legionary State would allocate more funds to railway and transport. Furthermore, to fully utilize its expansive oil fields, Romania would allocate funds to furthering its oil production and refining capabilities. By extracting, refining, and barreling oil at home, the Romanian army would have an ample supply to run its machinery on.

TroopTrain1.jpg

With a ready source of oil, Romania would also open a series of industrial factories, to produce equipment like pots and pans for soldiers, and to supply the battlefront with plentiful shells. Although Romania lacks the ability to produce heavy weaponry and artillery, it attempts to aid the front by producing the bare necessities.

Social Actions:

The Iron guard would continue employing anti Jewish and anti Businessman propaganda. Joining the army would be encouraged, and rearing more than 4 children would gain the family social privileges and material welfare.

c9e8183e73d178e65368caf66ae1fd9d.jpg

In schools across the country, physical education programs are stressed. Mathematics and Literature classes are widely replaced to foster military strategy and nationalistic rallying courses. Children are pushed to help the community by joining the Pioneer organizations, which put younger members of society to work at collecting the harvest, helping with menial jobs at factories, and rooting out "enemies of the state" through a "tattle-tale" system in which children are rewarded for bringing people with anti-government sentiments to light.

Concentration camps for the Roma and Jews are prepared in southeastern Romania, and citizens are awarded for betraying the location of Jewish residents. Synagogues are scoured for names, and jews and roma, from children to the senile elderly, are shoved into trains and sent to labor for the National Legionary State under derelict conditions.

Diplomatic Actions:

Romania would begin funneling uncompensated resources to Germany. The main exports would be OIL, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS, and GRAIN.

Emissaries would be sent to BERLIN to begin to negotiate the transfer of Northern Transylvania to Romania. The Romanian state is ardent in rejoining with that part of its Greater Romanian vision.

SUMMARY:

-400,000 Troops are moved to the River Prut by train to ready for Operation Munich: the targets for conquest are the Soviet Occupied regions of Bessarabia and Bukovina

-From money obtained by forceful sequestration and a bustling at home industry, Romania would funnel funds into creating a new oil refinery

-From money obtained by forceful sequestration, Romania would funnel funds into expanding farms in southern Romania

-From money obtained by forceful sequestration and a bustling home industry, Romania would begin the construction of a railway line from Bucharest to the river Prut, and would attempt to build a series of Bridges across the Prut

FuxWfON.png

-Romania would make its first of many pleas for the inclusion of Northern Transylvania to Germany

-Romania would begin unreciprocated trade of OIL, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS, and GRAIN with Germany

-Romania would ask Turkey for unhindered access through the Dardanelles, in exchange for an un-negotiable 5% profit from all revenue reeled in throughout this trade route.

Responses

-Already expending a plethora of resources in utterly blind, question-less dedication to the German Cause, Romania would accept Spanish offers of trade. It would ship over leftover oil, industrial products, and grain to Spain. TRADE WOULD BE SLOW AND MOSTLY UNPROFITABLE, as land trade is impossible and the few Romanian trade ships would need to pass through a hindered Dardanelles.

Diplomatic Response of The Reich
In exchange for their gracious amounts of supplies and manpower that help to supply Barbarossa, the Reich generously does as the Romanians have asked and grants them their Greater Romanian vision in the form of returning Northern Transylvania.

People’s Republic of China

 Eagles cleave the air,
Fish glide in the limpid deep;
Under freezing skies a million creatures contend in freedom.
Brooding over this immensity,
I ask, on this boundless land
Who rules over man's destiny?

Mao Zedong

17, August 1941

Comrade Mao has spent many a day without a single wink of slumber. It seems as if he has aged yet another twenty years since the German troops marched from the fields of Poland into the USSR. No longer was the slumbering Russian bear watching over the Far East, its attention was now diverted fully. No longer did the Revolution have its vital big brother to watch over it as it poked the goliath which was Chiang and his corrupt Kuomintang cronies.

Military Policies

Soldiers who had previously in the year been pulled from all combat are still kept from combat, they are drilled and disciplined. The Three key principles are instilled into the men, prompt obedience to orders, no confiscation of peasant property, and prompt delivery directly to authorities of all items confiscated from landlords.

Training programs from foreign aid training manuals and general guerilla warfare training begins on a mass scale amongst the 400,000 mobilized formal troops.

The 80,000 free Communist militia are sent outward from CPC territory annexing small bits of land from the KMT, one or two small villages. The people would be treated fairly and only a very light garrison left there. The village elders instantly offered a place within local government.

80,000 Communist militia are ordered Northward to begin light guerilla warfare with the Japanese, the key order from Mao being he wants not a single coat bloodied or a missing rifle upon their return home.

40,000 Communist militia are sent about CPC lands to garrison villages and aid the villagers.

Domestic Policies

Local citizens within cities and villages alike are offered positions within local governments and the CPC encourage literacy programs amongst the populace.

Light garrisoning of populated villages and cities with militia, totally releasing 40,000 militia from fighting force into being garrisoned forces.

Village and city leaders are negotiated with on the extent of defenses to be allowed to set up.

Foreign Politics/Policies

Within Comrade Mao’s cavern crafted into his home he has a telegrapher tap out formal messages through many telegraph networks, sending direct telegrams to both the Kremlin and the United States.

He gives small telegrams to open channels to Great Britain, British Raj, Canada, and Australia.

A single telegram being sent to the offices of Berlin, Comrade Mao not expecting much of it but there may be a chance of a formal response.

Scholars, students, and literate members are rung up to write a series of essays, novellas, and full length books. A positive Communist vignette placed over the writing about the CPC and its struggles. These writing are sent to universities within Nationalist China, USA, USSR, India, Iran, and a few essays sent far westward into Turkey to see the views of Communism within the nation.

A small troupe of actors are sent to Tibet to garner more Communists to join the cause and display the bravery of the People’s Liberation Army, which makes up the majority of the plays subjects.

Poetry, fliers, murals, and general propaganda is dispersed throughout CPC lands and surrounding KMT villages, spreading the joys of Communism and the failures of the KMT. A key note being the recent N4A Incident which saw the KMT slaughter 10,000 Communist troops who were moving Northward under Chiang’s order to aid the Nationalists.

Telegrams

USSR/Kremlin

Spoiler

Comrade Stalin, I send this in good faith. I know of your struggles with the Fascist pigs to your west, but the revolution in China is slowing to a crawl. The greedy Nationalists will be sure to make their move upon us instead of the Japanese unless you continue your aid. We formally request the diversion of a small company of tankettes, or light tanks if you have any outdated ones to spare.

USA

Spoiler

President Roosevelt, we humbly ask the American government for more aid to be diverted to the CPC. The Kuomintang government flounders the economic aid and armaments you provide. They rather spend it on their manors, and use of their arms on us. I'm sure you know of the N4A incident, the Kuomintang are seeking for the nearest opportunity to cause civil strife within China. If that were to happen the Japanese would roll through China slaughtering our people. I plead with you Mr. Roosevelt and your American people to increase aid as to prevent Kuomintang from slaughtering my people.

Britain, British Raj, Australia, and Canada

Spoiler

Greetings to Parliament, I am Mao Zedong of the Communist Part of China. I and my people are bogged down in war with the Japanese who roll through our northern realms and slaughter soldiers and civilians alike. I ask of parliament of Britain and the Commonwealth as large for economic aid. My people need food, and my soldiers bullets to load their guns with. Without these basic necessities I fear the war mongering Chinese shall set their eyes on all of Asia, including lands such as Australia and New Zealand. I implore you to aid us to stop the Japanese here and now, before they are past us and upon your door step.

Third Reich/Berlin

Spoiler

Greetings to Berlin offices, this is Mao Zedong of the Communist Party of China. It fills me with sorrow to hear the news of your attack upon the USSR. I ask of your leader and government the guarantee of no foul acts from German ships, aircraft, or submarines upon unarmed merchant ships flying foreign or CPC flags entering or leaving China. If you agree to these terms as shall the CPC to no harm coming to German merchant shipping in China from the CPC.

The Empire of Japan

17th of August 1941

The Japanese War Machine had been unleashed on China for many years at this point, many victories and conquests were had, along with spoils and atrocities committed by the Imperial Japanese Army. Two enemies to fight in China the first the Nationalists, proud and strong willing to fight on the field in straight up fights and secondly the Communists, cunning and cautious hiding in the shadows and fighting only when they choose to and on their terms. The war in China had hit a stalemate the Japanese could no longer force the Nationalists back further into mainland Japan than it already had and it could not dislodge the Communist fighters in the North the strategy of the Second Sino-Japanese War had to change else the gains made in China could all be for naught.

Military Policies

With the United States becoming wary of the military campaigns and imperialistic expansion of the Empire of Japan there is cause for concern in the Imperial High Command, many high ranking figures believing war with the United States is just, others more sensible and respected voices believing that there is no need to awake a sleeping giant. However the contingency plan is put in place, a suggested preemptive strike against the Port of Pearl Harbor in the United States territory of Hawaii, it is however believed to be best used as a last resort.

With the rampant corruption that has plagued China since the late Qing Dynasty the Japanese manage to keep many police forces and former miltiary garrisons under its control making use of collaborators that willing, unwilling or are just down right paid off by the Empire to keep many towns and cities under control after initial occupation, exceptions being the settlements that had atrocities committed in, these ones requiring an Imperial Garrison as Native policing cannot be trusted in these areas.

Currently a large fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy patrols the South China Sea, controlling the area as effectively any Chinese Navy could not stand up to the superior Japanese vessels, the first of the Yamato Class Battleships undergoing its trials at sea. Any trade by sea to the Communist Faction or the Nationalist Faction of China naturally being severely hindered with most of coastal China being under the control of the Japanese, leaving very few ports for any economic assistance to reach the Chinese Factions. The Navy patrols around Hong Kong the British Protectorate but does not make any incursions into the borders.

The Imperial Japanese Army in Manchuria would mobilize 100,000 Soldiers and Mechanized Armour Divisions and move to press against the Communist Borders hoping to incur a major defeat for the Communists using mostly unrelenting force, making it known to CHINESE CIVILIANS that they will be rewarded by the Empire for revealing Communist positions and reminding them what happens to those who lie to the Empire referencing many atrocities committed and the fact that Japan is winning the war and that being on the winning side is more healthy for ones financial being as well as their families.

Around China Imperial Japanese Army Battalions move to strengthen the borders against the Nationalists using Infantry and Mechanized Armour divisions numbering 200,000 , consolidating their power in the conquered territories that they have gained. Looking to route out resistance fighters from within with its secret police and collaborative forces while the main Army readies itself for a potential nationalist counter attack.

Domestic Polices

Within the Empire and its holdings around Asia and the Pacific the Imperial High Command wish to consolidate their power and secure the holdings so they do not suffer attrition behind their own battle-lines. Many Officers of the Kempetai are dispatched to Manchuria as Communist Activity is high in that area in guerrilla warfare and dissidents within Cities. The goal of this Operation is to mobilize the collaborative Police and Army Garrisons in China under the guidance of the Kempetai to remove all Communist and Rebel elements in holdings in Northern China and the Korean Peninsula, their goal is to also remind the populace what it means to go against the Empire.

The Factories in the captured territories in China are ordered to produce significant output for the war, the whole point of the conquest of China was to ensure that the Empire of Japan could become self sufficient, not requiring the import of resources from other nations such as the United States or the British Empire. The factories are ordered to produce rifles and sub-machine guns along with regular machine guns at a very fast rate. Kempetai inspectors are sent to monitor the output and to ensure that supplies do not slip from the factory and into the hands of the Nationalists or the Communists. Output for the war was a top priority.

The Shipyards are ordered to lay down two more Yamato Class Battleships and begin construction as it appears the first Yamato Class is going to pass its sea trials, the Navy holding significant influence in the Military Budget allowing for a significant portion of it to be allocated to the building of new Warships. However the Airforce and Army manage to get factories dedicated to production of Tanks and Warplanes both on the mainland of the Empire and in its Colonies. Labor is shipped over from China to the Japanese Shipyards to assist with the work and to lower the costs and limit the possibility of trade unions forming.

Diplomatic/Foreign Policies

From Tokyo the Capital of the Empire missives were sent to many nations and factions even those the Japanese had engaged in total war against. Maintaining its treaty with the Kingdom of Italy and Nazi Germany in its anti-communist stance to ensure that no more of the world falls to the weakness and stagnation that communism promotes within the eyes of the ultra-nationalist autocratic political stance of the Empire. Telegrams are sent and ambassadors are asked to meet with representatives of the following Nations and Factions.

To Nationalist China

To the representatives of the Republic of China, the Empire of Japan has fought long and hard in this conflict between our nations, we are obviously winning this war and you will inevitably lose. A temporary truce is proposed to the Republic of China as the Communists seem to be making incursions into your borders this truce will not include the Communist fighters in the North of China. During this truce representatives of our Countries shall meet to discuss possible peace, however it should be known to the Republic of China the Empire of Japan will not surrender any Colonies and conquests we have won during this war. Should you refuse this truce fighting will continue and all of China will be annexed as part of the Greater Japanese Empire and Co-Prosperity Sphere.

To the Reich/Nazi Germany

To our trusted allies of Germany, the Empire of Japan is dedicated to the destruction of Communism in both forms of state or factions that infect other nations. We support your war with the Soviets in Russia so that their nation can be freed from Communism. We ask that you divert all economic support from the Nationalist China to the Empire of Japan and to not support the Communist Faction that plagues the Chinese.

To the United States of America

To the representatives of the United States of America, we understand your wish for us to cease our campaigns in the Chinese mainland. However we would like to properly explain our situation. The land of China has been rampant with corruption for many hundreds of years, with the decadence of the late Qing Dynasty that your own nation witnessed in the Boxer Rebellion causing civil strife within the Country. It is apparent that the Chinese require a helping hand in helping them becoming prosperous. We are also wishing to help curb the communist influences in Asia, the Soviets supplying many rebels that operate or use to operate in our Colonies and holdings across Asia. We believe it is in the interests of the United States to stay out of this conflict and resume trade with the Empire of Japan so that peace and prosperity can reign across Asia once our righteous and glorious campaign has come to an end. Our Ambassadors in Washington offer medals of peace and friendship to show our sincerity in this message.

To the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland

To the representatives of the United Kingdom, we wish to assure you that British holdings in Asia and the Pacific are not of the interest of the Empire of Japan. We would remind our counterparts in London of the time when our nations had a treaty that aligned us together to end Russian Imperialism in Asia we remember this act of friendship from the United Kingdom and appreciate it to this day. Our Ambassadors in London offer medals of peace and friendship to show our sincerity in this message.

The United States of America

Incumbent: Franklin D. Roosevelt

There was a strong unease in the air; the Axis slowly became a larger threat than anticipated for homeland security. The British had their last stand, and the French Republic was split in various factions due to the Nazi strong arm.  The people understood that the world was at the brink of something, change was inevitably meant to happen.

It isn’t the case that the United States was aligned with the British Commonwealth by default; ages of isolationist foreign policy brought great prosperity for the American people. It was uncomfortable to be on the center of the European podium; expected to be fully involved by the various oppressed peoples. Influential figures such as Lindbergh heavily opposed involvement; turning public opinion against the Roosevelt administration person by person. The call to the last western democratic stronghold was clear, but was F.D.R ready to answer it?

The answer was; Kinda. Roosevelt knew a middle ground was possible to exclude the US from the war for now, but still aid the historical allies of the west. He established the Committee of Industry & Logistics, a personal cabinet of the brightest industrial minds and tycoons that could hold a firm grip over the private sector, and easen the process of supplying nations overseas. They were promised huge compensation and monopolies wherever the US had the ability to provide in Europe, Africa & Asia; but were expected to give discounts on purchases in the vehicle, mineral and weapon industry. In theory, the US government was loaning all kinds of resources and funds, and would repay it by corporate absolutism overseas.

In the meantime, the private sector received generous financial aid to create larger production facilities, and prepare a potential migration overseas. The US had to be able to provide large quantities of useful resources to any ally at stake, especially Britain. This created jobs, commerce and better military capabilities. However, Roosevelt understood that draftees & volunteers would create a lack of capable male workers in case a war does break out.  The Committee of Industry & Logistics is tasked to create a program where women would be involved and readied for participation in labor, and fill in the potential labor gap in these empowered sectors.

Ambassador Joseph Grew meanwhile opened bilateral talks with the Imperial Ambassador from Japan in Washington D.C, seeking to easen relations and find common understanding of territories within the pacific. Roosevelt was willing to look away from Japanese expansion, if security & pacts were open for negotiation.

18, August 1941

Comrade Mao darts into the telegraph room, his new home for the next few weeks. He rampantly sends out telegrams to his men, allies, aid suppliers, and to the Capital of China carrying a message to be routed to the offices of the Empire of Japan. Couriers and horsemen are also sent out.

Military Policies

The 400,000 well fed, and up to this point out of combat for over two months, mobilized guerilla fighters are surged from the training ground in the mountain peaks outward. They are to begin the 'Lanzhou Defensive', troops are ordered to follow Mao's rules of engagement that was amongst the first drilled in during the short training of the late Summer and early Fall months.

1. Attack dispersed enemies; isolate enemy forces. Do not engage concentrated strong targets.

2. Diminishing the enemies strength is key, gaining villages and cities only comes after the enemy lies weak. Do not siege or take villages or cities before the enemy is weakened.

3. In every battle concentrate a superior force, encircle, and never let the lesser numbered enemy escape the net. Leave no enemy soldier to tell the tale. The aim is to smash a part of the enemy army so push the front and flanks, so that the whole will crumble.

4. Fight no battle unprepared, fight no battle you are not sure of winning; make every effort to be well prepared for each battle, make every effort to ensure victory in the given set of conditions as between the enemy and ourselves.

5. Replenish our strength with all the arms and most of the personnel captured from the enemy. Our army's main sources of manpower and matériel are at the front.

6. Make good use of the intervals between campaigns to rest, train and consolidate our troops. Periods of rest, training and consolidation should in general not be very long, and the enemy should so far as possible be permitted no breathing space.

These rules having been scribed months in advance in small booklets and are given to all men in leadership positions. The commanders are reminded to strictly follow the 4th rule of engagement, Mao does not want to see 100,000 men lay dead due to incompetence.

The 80,000 troops free to the south interfering with KMT lands are order to fully turn back as are the 80,000 that were engaging in guerilla warfare. Their orders to push northward to the second line of defense and begin to set up traps about the mountains, forests, and roads.

1. Small tunnels are dug under flat positions for which motorized vehicles are able to pass over, the top of the tunnels being a small ceiling of earth. The tunnels constructed as to make the motorized vehicles collapse the tunnel underneath and get stuck. Two tunnels are constructed under the two main roads following the front line villages, pressured top explosives placed in them.

2. Front line villages that haven't yet met Japanese forces on the horizon are evacuated. 90% of all foods are retreated back into the mountains. The 10% left over is grain which has had rotted cow and pig flesh rubbed over it and for good measure pissed on by the militia. The goal to sicken the Japanese troops surging forward, whom in the four year long war has been learned they are not the most well fed troops at times.

3. Small drawings and carpenter made silhouettes are placed along the forested areas, used as a detection system. In the hopes a Japanese troop will fire off a round at the inanimate Communist troop in mistake.

The 40,000 Communist militia garrison is halved as they moved towards the mountains escorting the fleeing refugees. The 20,000 escort are ordered to consistently remind them of the horrors of the Japanese Devil, whom rather stick their bayonet in the throat of a farmer than trade for grains. They are also reminded of the atrocities they commit, and only if a stand is made as a united Chinese people will the fear mongering Devil be stopped.

The 20,000 freed garrison is further split into a 5,000 man division and a 15,000 one. The 15,000 militia marching to the east to aid KMT troops on the front lines.

The further 5,000 taking up small outdated arms and civilian clothing are sent to skirt around the front lines and incite Communist cells and sympathizers to lash out. Mao personally ensuring a home in the mountains or a bundle of rice for a family for every four Japanese MPs killed, or for every three traitorous Chinese police killed beyond the front lines. The reclaimed estates of the former landlords of Northern China are promised to the men who are able to destroy either a factory or mine under Japanese control.

Domestic Policies

The fleeing refugees are set up into the mountains and sent to villages that have open space, their property staying with them. No soldier to ever lay a hair on them or their possessions.

Propaganda is turnt out at a rapid speed to be spread to all nearby areas, behind both the Chinese front lines and if possible the Japanese. The horrors of aiding the Japanese rung up, the united cause of the Chinese people noted, and general encouragement of resistance.

Foreign Policy

Two telegrams are sent, to the offices of Chiang Kai-Shek and to the offices of the Empire of Japan. Reminder messages are also sent to the USSR and Great Britain and its Commonwealth to respond.

The Empire of Japan

Spoiler

If you do not end your offensive into the interior of China you shall find your Empire weak, if you aren't able to set foot upon the capital of the KMT in four years how do you hope to ever succeed in an offensive into our mountains?

Nationalist China - KMT

Spoiler

Chiang I know we are two men cut of rapidly different cloth and material, but I request further aid to the North. I have sent 15,000 men to aid upon your front, I request troops to help push the Japanese back. If we are able to upturn the Japanese turtle we can start a counter-offensive. You must get the aid of the United States and other foreign powers. Our seas may be blocked, but the air is free to the west in the mountain peaks of Tibet and the Everests.

China must not fall to the foreign devils, I pray I must not remind you the fate of Nanking under the dogs.

May your soldiers charge straight and strong, and your health let you see the next thousand years.

- Comrade Mao Zedong

The Third Reich
Diplomatic Response
The telegram sent out by the Communist pigs in China is left unanswered. The day that the Reich worked with Communists would be its last.

Overview
German officers advising the Japanese in China and other parts of the South Pacific would continue to send reports back to the Reich detailing the cold, calculated brutality of the Japanese. Unknown to the leadership of the Reich; many of these men harbored Chinese citizens in an effort to protect them from the sheer brutality of the Japanese. While many German officers find these tactics to be appalling, the Fuehrer himself half admired the effort and it only inspired him to increase efforts in his Final Solution.

As September rolled around in Europe, the German offensive continued to move at a rapid pace. With the Fuehrer's goal in mind, the bliztkrieging troops reached Leningrad just before the last day of August. Leningrad was now under siege with artillery shelling the city near daily.

Diplomatic Actions
With activities in Europe slowing down, the Germans send a generous telegram to the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill. Leaflets are dropped by sporadic German bombers, bearing the same message as the one that Mr. Churchill received:

Prime Minister Churchill,

As Europe lies firmly under the grasp of the Third Reich, we extend to you an offer of peace. Our terms are as follows:

1. Allow German officials and advisors into Britain to ensure that the British people have their rights protected

2. Disarm the British Navy to about half of its current number; the Reich will protect Britannia's waves

3. Cease all diplomatic relations with the United States of America

Sweden

So far during the war, Sweden had been placed in a tough position with the German Reich being too close for comfort and having to trade Iron Ore with them so they would not get invaded like their neighbors. Now Sweden has to decide how this war will affect them, The military stands at the ready for a possible invasion from most positions with AA guns placed at the ready for any possible air raids that have may harm Swedish cities while the Navy stays close to the ports, escorting trade ships that move to and from the German trade ports in the Baltic. In the larger cities Swedish Factories are grown trying to make them more efficient in weapon production.

Trade

- Iron Ore trade continues with the Germans and attempts at trading with the other allies also continues, trading the rich supply of Iron ore if they would supply food and other necessities.

Political

- Attempts at better relationships with the German's begins as well with Great Britain, trying to make sure they don't harm Swedish trade ships.

Military

- The large Swedish Military while sizable was still rather poorly outfitted and so the factories are put to work in trying to outfit the entire Swedish Infantry divisions with the Kpist 40/mm and the Anti-tank capabilities. Tanks like the Stridsvagn m/42 Medium tank are also produced to make up for Sweden's small armored divisions and the Stridsvagn L-60 Light tank is also put into Manufacturing in Sweden's factories.
