A Small Rule Change!

"Running from roleplay using MC mechanics is not allowed unless PVP combat has been chosen as a form of combat to be used, and it is done following a proper countdown. If a player runs from roleplay, the other side may PvP him and is under no obligation to revive him. The person running may also face punishment. Note that yelling "Halt" is not valid rp to initiate PvP. If they don't stop to respond, you cannot give chase with PvP."

If someone roleplays that they are running away from a fight, is that running away from the roleplay of fighting, or roleplaying running away from a fight?

This change has not clarified the major issues at all, like what constitutes valid RP. All this has done is make 'valid RP' even more of a powderkeg issue, because we will begin to see players not only downed but also killed for something they may not think is valid RP.

All that needs to be clarified is what is not valid RP for PvP ever.

My suggestions:

1) Shouting one thing over and over again (ex. "Kill the whitewash!" or "**** the flays!" or whatever)

2) Camping at places like fast travels, city entry points, etc, in order to force people to RP with you because you're in their way.

3) Saying "Halt", "Minas or die", or just running into someone, pulling out your blade and going "Hand over your valuables or I'll gut you like a fish".

4) If a conflict is escalating and someone tries to walk away from it, attacking them in RP or blocking their exit in RP should, imo, default the combat to RP since Roleplay of the conflict has already begun. From that point on PvP should only be used if all parties agree. But actively trying to prevent someone from leaving an escalating conflict that could become a fight (like 2 men arguing in a bar) is turning it into a roleplay fight.

When in doubt, just keep moving. If people are going to be so PvP hungry that they get a legit reputation for it to the point that no one bothers to stop and RP with them on the road, well, sucks to be them

Any player could easily circumvent these rules by saying several things rapidly in a row.

No, it would be nuanced and logical. In no world is anyone saying it would be fair rp to say 'HALT' 'HALT' 'HALT' 'HALT' is a valid start of RP, because it's kinda not.

Is banditry not allowed then? How are bandits supposed to operate?

By RPing, if they run away, well then m8, you got yourself a catch, go and kill them.

Some folks seem to not understand the rule change. The idea is that before, you were allowed to simply turn and run mid RP in an attempt to get away. This is no longer allowed. Running away mechanically is to be initiated the same way PVP is to be initiated.

I realize this post doesn't answer all concerns being raised, which I'm not ignoring, I just want to make sure that the point of this change is understood.

Very pleased to see this rule change. Hopefully less people will abuse mechanics to escape roleplay situations now.

But halting is not allowed so whats a proper initiation look like?

the halt thing isn't new dude. "halt" being a legitimate form of starting RP has not been acceptable in a loooong time.

RP chasing sequences are completely obnoxious and tedious, and what stops someone from deciding that you walked a little bit too far away and just no RPing you?

A welcome addition

ok im still wondering what a proper initiation looks like

Best way I've done it is go "Please help, my friend is injured" *points to friend on side of the road with blood on their robes*

Other ways I've done it is asking people questions, emoting blocking a way which can be blocked (bridge for example), going for someone which ISN'T walking or running (which means they can't ignore the roleplay, since they aren't just running away, they are stationary), and basicaly doing emotes and talking that doesn't involve someone stoping, turning around like an idiot, and awaiting to be surrounded.

luring them in like saying "Hey come over here" or appearing non threatening or something like that.

You could pose as a guard if you had IC managed to obtain one;

"You, citizen, name and business."

"I'm going to need to ask you a few further questions, if you could follow me."
*Heads down a backalley towards the 'questioning' rooms.*

*Queue generic bandit emotes/speeches now.*
