Hi everyone, please read this entire post before voting on the poll.

Hunting Profession:

Over the past few months, I've been working on a new nexus profession, Hunting. This profession was lined up to be released with or a few weeks after the 5.0 release, however I wanted to hear the community's opinion before releasing it. At its heart, this profession is based around hunting and capturing mobs. If you didn't already know, we do intend to enable hostile mob spawns again in 5.0 which is why a hunting profession could possibly be a viable addition to LotC. There are a couple of issues with the addition of this profession which is why I'm asking what you  think about it, the main concern I have is that this profession could detract from hunting roleplay and replace it with a mechanical profession, also from what I've seen hunt events are quite popular among the players and the Event Team, and I don't want to take away from those kind of events either.

Mechanical Bosses:

If you remember the Books of Power event from a while back, one of the things that was supposed to be released with it was an "exploration" styled world where people could find cool loot chests and fight mechanical bosses. I was tasked with creating these bosses; the bosses would be modeled after lore-approved creatures and they would be completely scripted with boosted stats and attributes and unique abilities. The plan was to include these bosses in the Hunting plugin, but only allow high level hunters to fight them. As far as I know, monster-slaying events are something the Event Team does and my aim isn't to turn this server into a questy boss-slaying rpg server which is why I'd also like your opinions on the matter.

Please vote on the poll and if you have any other thoughts on the matter, I'd like to hear them. Thanks.

I think that Bosses would be a cool addition, however, making it so that only High Leveled Hunters can kill them would be limiting. Why not have it so that High Leveled Hunters could find the bosses, yet need a party of people to take it down? This would lead to people hiring hunters to take down Big Game.

Personally I think giving people the option to go out on quests can only be a positive. Yes it might push us more towards an RPG mindset but you aren't forced to partake in the events. One of the main issues with Vailor is how stale rp is getting. It is paramount that we get people involved in the ongoings of the server and this is definitely a way to do that. I don't really see any cons with introducing this idea so +1.

I think adding a hunting profession would be a really good idea. This would take some load off of the ET's shoulders because they don't need to watch every time someone wants to hunt. However, I have a tough time imagining what you could give the profession that would make it desirable, outside of being able to fight bigger monsters. Better loot drops?

The idea of bosses is interesting - I feel like RP focused hunting events should always be encouraged over mechanical ones. However, since there's not always an ET available, bosses might not be a bad idea.

My first reaction to a dedicated hunting profession is that it shouldn't be a thing, but maybe that'll change if we get more information on what the profession can do/what higher tiers of hunter allow.

There needs to be some more info on how the Hunting Profession and Bosses will exactly work before a community vote should pass/be done imo. Also this creeps awfully too close to a MMO-esque or mechanical heavy situation for my tastes just from the brief summary of both, grind on mobs so you can eventually kill bosses for great loot.

I like it. I like it a lot. ET's can't be around all the time, and I agree that any hunter should be able to find a boss, but I have my own idea involving that. Perhaps a higher-level hunter can do more damage, or even has some kind of ability that can be used in PvP or PvE, and can more easily take on the boss. I don't know.

At first I was against the profession, and voted no, but now I think it'd be great fun for Hunters to be able to gather up parties for a boss. So, yeah, good idea.

I'm not sure how I feel about 'boss monsters' but I think returning monsters to the overworld and adding a skill alongside with them would be nice. Give them some decent but not game-breaking drops (some leather scraps from zombies, maybe an iron ingot rarely, .5 - 1 minas per, stuff like that), maybe allow hunters to trap wild animals like pigs, cows, and mooshrooms (?) and turn them into eggs... I don't know, something like that would be cool. Definitely very fond of a mob slaying skill, though. If we've got a skill for making oak vs dark oak stairs... well, I don't see how this could negatively impact anything.

Boss mobs would be really weird and have to be done well. In dungeons or especially dangerous event areas. Stuff like that. Keep those kinds of things rare or strictly event team, in my opinion.

NO.

Look, I'm sorry to hate on something you've been working on, but this is skill is among the most worthless things I've ever seen. Everyone has been complaining about how the plug-ins affect the server negatively in combat and even discourages roleplay in certain instances, but you want to straight up make an MMO mechanical fighting plug-in that you level by fighting mobs? Fighting normal mobs isn't even hard! You can bare-handedly 1v10 zombies all day as long as you don't let yourself get pinned. Nevermind how many people would feel forced to take this skill (especially hunting guilds) when they would rather focus their skills on producing something for their guild. The professions list is already pretty bloated.

Nevermind that RP hunts should absolutely and always be more important. Did it not occur to people it's easy to do hunts RPly, now? You don't even need an ET unless you're going after a lore creature; the Edict runs its own hunts all the time with one or two of us just emoting for the animals.

I like the idea of bosses, because I do like fighting mobs, but it should not, in any single way, be connected to an MMO skill like this!

This would have been really awesome to have known. Oh my god, that's cool. I thought you weren't allowed to RP animals, ****!

Additional damage or special abilities, especially if they can be used in PvP, seem like an absolutely terrible idea to me, and bring lotc even closer to a mechanically focused MMO rather than an RP server. If a hunting skill is going to be implemented, it should have zero impact on PvP and minimal impact on hunts themselves, so that people don't feel obligated to choose it over other skills to avoid missing out on 'events'.

It's really fun, and good ET practice if you aspire to that in the future, as well.

Why burden the et with extra hunts when it could easily be done with this neat plugin. I would rather the et focused on more impactful events rather than having dire wolves out and about.

As for hunting as a profession I would like to see more before going either way but it seems hopeful, I remember back in the old days when this was a thing, it was pretty fun.
