Well.

Sometimes it's difficult to amend the issues when you struggle to see them. The martyrs become seen as isolated, crazy opinions until eventually those seemingly ‘crazy’ opinions come to resolve themselves into a coherent issue. However unlike the majority of well executed narratives we instead chose to continue battling the balrog, accidently killing a few hobbits in the process.

The development team has been an issue that has caused a lot of you concern, and rightfully so. Even the currently developers have acknowledged communication is an issue however, from where does this stem? Well, bluntly put the people who code for this server (and I continue to admit are incredibly talented in what they do, even if we do have some.. hiccups) don’t get put there for their capacity to communicate. Is it an excuse? Not really, however we should truly find a means to resolve that.

Firstly with 501warhead stepping down we’ll be promoting Teegah to a community feedback developer. After a few short months on the Development Team, Teegah has shown to be a very promising coder with a strong drive towards community feedback and consultation. We’d like to believe that he’s been one of the more open voices of the development team and thus will hopefully bring a tighter knick of communication between the team and the community. This being a newer role we do expect some teething issues, so your patience will be most appreciated.

We’re also going to be switching up the lead development role slightly, moving it away from a plugin-focused orientation to more a team management. Not unlike the way other leads are in charge of their team. Due to his current position as team manager and past experience, the candidate that’ll take up this role once more is Kowaman to which I immediately understand the concern, however rest assured that when he re-joined us a copyright agreement was established, to be as transparent as possible. For concerns of abuse, all code that goes onto the server is submitted through a git repository management system, or in other words a system which allows all coders, developers and administrators to see the changes put forward in full detail. Since his return, Kowaman (who has been observed closely) has shown to be a prominent team manager leading us to believe he is most suited to the newly adapted lead role.

That's all I say this evening, we hope you come to appreciate these changes and allow them time to develop (no pun intended). Below is Kowaman’s definitions regarding the new structure of the development team.

New Structure of the Development Team

The Developers

The Development Team is composed of a group of individuals who code for the server, assure the server runs smoothly and take into account community feedback in setting direction. No one person should be responsible for setting the direction of our server, thus this mantle is placed upon the group of developers to work in collaboration. Each developer will handle an area of focus and, and the overall path of the server will be dictated through group discussion with community and staff consultation.

Development Team Director

Kowaman

The Development Team Leader is in charge with managing the team, reviewing new coders, promoting Developers with consultation of other Developers and assuring projects are being actively worked on. They do not lead development, but rather manage the team. They will collaborate with the other developers to set the direction of the server.

Community Feedback Developer

Teegah

The Community Feedback Developer will be tasked with overlooking, responding to, and engaging in all community feedback, meetings and discussions, then bringing it forward to the rest of the team. They will collaborate with the other developers to set the direction of the server.

Administrative Developer

Telanir

The Administrative Developer holds a seat on the Administration Team and is charged with ensuring all changes that are put through seek staff consultation and are compliant with the Minecraft EULA and that our rules reflect the technical side of the server, and visa-versa. All matters involving account security and donations are also run through the Administrative Developer. They will collaborate with the other developers to set the direction of the server.

Systems Maintenance Technician

Tythus

The Systems Maintenance Technician is charged with assuring the server runs, that bills are paid and that the development team has the needed tools to make the server run. They will collaborate with the other developers to set the direction of the server.

The Coders

Jistuma, Otisdiver, Melodichand (and more soon!)

The Coders are an essential component of the team. While the main goal of the Developers is management and direction, the Coders produce the bulkwork of content that is put on the server. They take direction from the Developers and create content for the player base.
