Who we are?

Who am I? Who are you? Who we are?

The response is clear. We all are people that enjoy to play on a minecraft roleplaying game.

Game.

Does that word rings something on you? Something that you remember? Something that you like to use? In what way do you like to "use" games? Well, there are many, but if you're reading this thread, the intent is clear: you maybe use it in the way of roleplaying.

But

The question is:

Do you have fun?

Are you enjoying it?

Why did you start it?

Lets backtrack a long time ago... weeks, months, years, six years, hell... even minutes. You opened your web browser and googled around for a minecraft roleplaying server, but maybe it was also because of the help of a friend of yours? Why did you apply on a roleplay server?

Why?

For what?

To do PvP?

To grind?

To insult?

To hate?

To do pvp so you may absolutely crush that wonky William Shakespeare cripple nerd right across the street on your favourite game?

To grind so you may show off how superior you are on a game that will change absolutely nothing on your life?

To insult so you may feel better than other people to compensate the fact that you're a completely absolute ass lazy **** that gets mugged by a 5th grader on your 8th grade for lunch money?

To hate so you may develop personal grudges and mental disturbs to kill Billy because he killed your favourite character Johnny?

Dude.

Get some sense. Even if you are a 30-year gaming veteran, have the humildity to lower yourself and listen to what's below you on a game, because its completely the other way around in real life. I mean, who are you? Look at yourself, do people around you know you? If you go outside and look around, how many of your neighbours know the legendary "N00bK1ll3r" that says "ez pz" on his favourite minecraft server while having an absurd KDA? Will they ever get to know the legendary N00bK1ll3r that everyone hates on the internet for beating their roleplay characters?

We all know that, there's no need to hide, and I don't really care if you're hiding it, maybe even I am hiding it, there's no need to comment about this part, but; If no one loves you there, what if no one loves you here aswell? If you don't join the fun of others, but instead, ruin it, such as "REKTING TH3Z3 DRUIDS COS TH3Y ARE CRING333333, XD", you'll just be seen as a pest; fool; idiot; demented. This is something that I fear, and I take easier when I begin to be more of a degenerative person instead of a good person.

Lets say that druids are having their "happy farm lovely roleplay." They are having fun, right? On your own world, you're also having fun as you are constantly haunted by the memories of the times you were an edgy on the server. And take a look at those around you. We all are snobbish. I mean, what do you do when you see a new player walking around on your land? Oh yes, take note that he's an orc walking into orenian lands... what do you do? Run up to him and kill him?

NO

GOD

DAMMIT

*******

NO

*******

RETARDED

ASS

STUPID

****

You show him your roleplay skills so he can have a demonstration of how the server works. If we all act good with a new player, he'll also become a good player, but if we become evil and bully these new players, but they somewhat like the server, they'll become toxic, bad players. I mean, take a look at MrSnowball and his other "MrFriend" too. Dude, when they joined, they were pure dark elves; pure players; good people. Not even if they were thirteen years old (for example), he had just joined the server, looking for fun. Nowadays, when I see him, he says common phrases of the intimidating knight "I'll kill these p*ssies" "**** off, f*ckers" "Leave or I'll f*cking kill you."

I understand that its how roleplay goes. But do you need to be, in essence, bad to these players?

If you pour water everyday on a sappling, it'll grow and bear fruits with time.

If you pour radioactive waste everyday on a sappling, it won't grow and it'll make the soil around it inappropriate for planting. Do you get the point?

The player isn't bad, its the community that makes the player bad.

Since how long did we forget to enjoy yourselves, sit and remember that this is a roleplaying server so we can maybe roleplay or ignore a druid instead of running to him with a "You die today, f*cking treeman" attitude?

When did we forget that we were new players just like the ones we bully?

When did we forget about that "super cool guy" that introduced you to your main race?

When did we begin to hate oren?

When did we begin to be OOC'ly patriots regarding Oren on a minecraft roleplay server?

Take a deep breath.

Remember.

This is a game.

Nothing will happen to you.

Take it lightly.

Look around you.

Be nice to people.

While people may make this into a meme, I hope some of the essence of this post can influence people to change their attitudes.  I appreciate the attempt, at least.

+1. There's so much salt on the server. I'm not gonna be an angel and say I haven't caused my fair share of that, or just said plain nasty things about people just because there's a circle jerk around them. For all those times, I really do feel sorry about them. I think, really, it comes down to a few things.

1. People realized that the people who take advantage of stuff that happens OOC as well as IC, and people that adopt a Machiavellian mindset for how they interact with people, can get a lot further in the game than if they are nice or try to keep everything IC, no Skype, no OOC dealings, all that jazz.

2. A few very common psychological traits. First, boiling down groups that you don't know a whole lot about or don't care about into one homogeneous clump where they are the same, especially negative traits or things that make it easier to negatively stereotype these groups. Second, and this ties in very closely to the previous points, dehumanizing the enemy. When you adopt the realpolitik point of view, or even just get caught up in the thrill and fun of burning a bunch of twiggies at a pyre, you can forget that the people playing those characters aren't the people you need to hurt in the game, or just simply not really care about what you say or do because they're the enemy, nothing more. This is a pretty rare occurrence I'd say, or at least I haven't encountered it much. But then we have some of the more common versions of these sorts of things.

3. Blurring the line between IC and OOC. I'm guilty of it, and I know a lot of others are. Sometimes you apply the above, that they're inhuman, they're the enemy, onto the person playing or just the player base as a whole, and use your IC grudges or something that happens in the game and take that onto the forums, where you continue it into discussions where it's OOC. But I think this is one of the most dangerous traps in not just Lord of the Craft, but most roleplay games. There are very real issues with the communities on the server, and you have every right to try and talk about that in a peaceful, civilized manner, but doing something as simple as taking showboating from a victory and really just rubbing salt in the wound, or getting salty on the forums and whining about why you lost and how they are all mongoloids or something to that effect. Sportsmanship is very important in any sort of even slightly competitive sport, and I think that that's something this server sorely lacks, and something I certainly want to improve on as well.

Good luck man. I know it can be rough starting out. If you need a hand getting your foot in the door or anything, PM me. I can try and help you out in whatever way I can, whether it be getting situated into a community, finding a way to make money, or just trying to figure out how to do something.

The meme master has turned into a community figure.

Get rid of Nexus

It has become a toxic platform which causes players to spend countless hours grinding and not roleplaying. I see people stand idly by anvils all day, waiting for their gear to finish crafting or mining so they can get enough iron to sell and get their dirty shekels. People ignore new players, rarely walking up to them and initiating RP for the sake of initiating RP. I've seen players jump around in the same place for minutes, never one initiating some sort of contact.

Even the "Hail" culture has vanished. Nobody "Hails" you when you pass by on the roads anymore. Rarely do the people initiate roleplay on a whim or begin contact without being prompted.

It's like a server catered to minimize antisocial behavior through virtual anonymity and the ability to create oneself is becoming yet another displaying ground for this behavior. It is absurd!

The staff can't be blamed, as it is mostly the players' fault. However, several staff issued programs like Nexus and poor infrastructure choices are pushing players to move away from RP. RP is slowly becoming a secondary purpose on LotC. Beyond a character's name, race, and profession, there seems to be little else. Players are being conditioned to "conform with the norm," and "not be edgy." Attempts at backstories, often overdone by new players but necessary to improve these player's integration into the world, are frowned upon because of their "edginess." The fact that there is no true Spawn hub robs new players of their ability to interact with other RPers upon logging in. The removal of the Wilven Monks was a mistake

There is no immediate way to fix this. We can only hope to publicize it by highlighting it. A good start would be to remove the grinding component of Nexus, as much as I personally enjoy it.
