Healing

This thread covers the explanation for the stance taken on healing.

Healing magic is a category of some contention on LotC. On one hand, a healer is a common trope found and is something that a number of magics have dabbled in, even if some are now shelved. It provides some roleplay that is non-combative and is beneficial to a person. The issue is when this becomes a crutch for avoiding consequence.

If we are capable of fully healing each other, there is no downside to getting harmed. It, along with monk revival, has pushed the server into a direction where violence is commonplace and the go to resort. A number of people choose not to PK anyway, so violence has no real consequence when it should have something there.

It has been decided that the concept of healing is fine so long as it is interesting and not something that is a 5 emote fix all spell. The spell should not just be “*summons some light and it fills the person, fixing their injuries.”, that’s not interesting nor is it something that’s going to create more RP besides negating consequence. Make it interactive or something that the healed person needs to partake in.

Healing bigger things should also require more effort and should not just result in the healer being “fatigued” for a period of time. Minor injuries like small cuts and bruises can be healed in one go, but if there are things like broken bones or organ damage or a missing limb, that should be something extensive and/or done over the course of IRL days via multiple healing sessions.
