Mental magic, the art of the mentalists

While none of us know the true origins of this magic it is whispered from time to time that a man by the name of Jon Evaglno was taught this gift by an ancient tree. Yes a odd and unbelievable story I know but from what we have just experienced, I can tell you that this was in fact true.

Some time ago, a date none of us remember clearly our gift was lost. It weakened rapidly until one day we simply could not use it. Even know we do not know why, maybe we are too far away from the tree of minds that first taught Jon, maybe the tree is dead and along with it our powers but I doubt we will ever know why our powers originally faded into nothingness.

Yet we are standing here today, while not all have our gift back a small group does how i'm sure you wish to know. The story is rather boring if I am honest with you my dear reader, whoever you might be, a future practitioner of our gift I hope.

It was within the land that we called Arcas when we found our gift again. At first we did not listen to the calls within our minds, we believe them to be someone trying to fool us or lure us into a trap but they only grew stronger until it was near impossible for one to ignore. We still are unsure on why it chooses the ones it did but we are glad we could spread this gift once more but back to my story.

The voice that called us felt oddly familiar even though we had never heard it before and after some time one of us finally gave in, they listened to the voice, followed it as it guided them until they sound its source. The source of the voice was another, A new mind tree.

Unlike the stories of the one Jon found the new tree we found was large, full of life and didn't have any of the bitterness of the one Jon found. While it could not tell us why our old powers faded into the void it did explain to us it was why it picked up, for we already understood some of its magic but we would soon learn this Mind tree would differ from the one Jon found. Maybe because it never felt the rage and anger like before or maybe it was simply different we will never know.

I am unsure if I was truly the first, but I do know I was among the first few to learn this new gift. Like the stories of old the tree spoke to me clear as day once I was within its grove and I stayed with the mind tree until it considered me a master of the art. All my time there I never felt the need to leave, to see family or friends or even for basic companionship but now I know that was how strong the tree was in the arts, that it could Illusion over such emotions without a single slip or even a hint my mind was clouded.

The gift it taught us did differ from the one we used to know. We found some abilities weaker or worked in different ways but this mind tree also gifted us with new powers and ways to use our gift and for that we will always be grateful.

Im sure you my dear reader would like to know were this Tree is, but in all honestly I could not tell you. It used its gift to guide us to it but it also used it to keep itself hidden no matter how hard we try we can not find the tree again, but maybe one day it will guide us back to itself. That is should it need us.

What is the art of mentalism?

Mental Magic or Mentalism is the magic of the mind, allowing practitioners or mentalists to enter other minds and weave a great many spells to affect them. It can target any creature that has some form of cognitive ability even be it a very simple form such as an animal.

A mentalist uses the void to do their art. Using the potential of the void they weave their more complex spells in it before pushing them onto their targets mind.

To learn Mentalism a mage must be taught by a master of the art and of course capable of learning a magic that uses the void. Before a student can learn a teacher must expand their mind so they are capable of handling the mental stress of mentalism.

Reaching - Non-Combative, Enchantable

Before A mental mage can weave any of their spells they must first find a mind to connect to and target the process of this is called reaching. When reaching a mentalist can sense all minds around even the simple minds of animals and it takes practice to be able to filter and sort out this mess of minds. To connect to their target the mentalist must first find the correct mind to connect to there are many ways to do this, Firstly if the mentalist is familiar with the mind and has worked on it before they will have an easy time finding it and connecting. If they are not Familiar with the mind but understand their target and the current emotions they are showing the mentalist can also use this to attempt to connect to their target mind but doing it in such a way they could see them connect to the wrong mind that is showing similar emotions. While physical barriers may stop the mentalist from connecting using their vision, they do not stop them from being able to connect to their target. The only limit is the range from the mentalist and this grows as their power does.

Mechanics:

Takes one Emote after you’ve connected to the void. Range is based on tier and can be found under tiers. Allows the mage to scan for mind round them and attempt to locate the one they wish to target. It does pick up simple minds such as animals. While scanning the mage sends out distortive mana in a small radius around them, similar to a sonar.

When using this as an enchantment it can allow the user to get a rough idea if there is anyone around them with sentience (A working mind).

Redlines:

  • No matter how you connect the effort remains the same, as dictated by tier

  • You can feel strong emotions but must meld or telepath for more detail and weaker emotions.

  • The sonar distortive mana looks like staring at a gas with the naked eye, bending ‘light’ around it.

  • You’re unable to pinpoint where exactly minds are, just a general idea they’re minds around.

  • You require vision on the target to connect to their mind.

Example:

Alia would sit in the corner of the tavern, a small group of friends surrounding her. As they chatted away she would notice some one must unsavoury take a seat at the bar. A smile would grow on her face as she closed her eyes opening them as they glowed softly for a few seconds as she estabilied her connection to the void.

Alia took note of were her target was before closing her eyes and laying back into her chair idly listening to the chatter around her as she opened her mind up, immediately a pulse of distortive mana radiates from her body. She would feel the other minds around her, strong thoughts and snippets of emotions filling her now open mind. Knowing her target was sitting by the bar she pressed her mind in that direction finding her target exactly where she thought they would be.

IoYWRUB.png

Telepathy - Non-Combative

Once a mental mage has reached and found their targets they may choose to use an art called Telepathy rather than mind melding. Telepathy is a less invasive form of Mind meld but does not give the mentalist any control over the mind. Once a mentalist uses Telepathy they can see their targets outermost thoughts and emotions. It also allows you to talk direct into your targets mind but none of the more powerful Mentalist arts can be used with Telepathy. While using this ability the mentalist is still able to do simple tasks such as talking and writing but solving a puzzle would be extremely hard as their mind is filled with double the amount of thoughts and emotions.

Mechanics:

One emote after reaching has been done. Allows the mage to see outermost thoughts, emotions and talk into their targets mind.

Redlines:

  • Can only be done, after reaching. Has the same same sonar effect.

  • You can only sense the targets emotions and outermost thoughts. You cannot manipulate them.

  • You’re only able to talk to the users mind. They can talk back (in thought) which you can hear.

Example:

Celia closes her eyes laying back in the comfy chair a smile on her face as she feels the warmth of the fire. The mentalist would than open her mind as she reached out to the minds around her. For a few seconds there would be a flood of thought and feeling from all around her but it didn't take but a second for her to filter this out. She already knew the mind she washed to enter and so she reached out to it. Another sonar distortive mana comes from her, Celia would gently push her mind onto the other not seeking to invade it only observe. As weaved the art of Telepathy the thoughts of her target and his emotions became more visible and clear. The smile on Celia lips would turn to a cheeky one as she spoke directly into her targets mind “Hello my dear”.

IoYWRUB.png

Mind melding - Non-Combative

Once connected the Mental mage still can not weave most of their spells until they have done what is called a mind meld. When the mentalist uses this and enters another's mind they let slip a small amount of their own mind into their target’s as the mentalist grows more powerful they lessen this affect until they can slip in totally unnoticed. This is also when the target can first notice their mind is being invaded while anyone would notice a weak mentalist entering their mind someone must be trained and alert to catch a master mentalist invading. Once connected and through any barriers the target has, the mentalist can now view the current targets closed thoughts and emotions giving a deeper understanding of their target. Keeping this connection requires a large amount of the mentalist concentration, the simple act of waving would be a very difficult task while talking, standing and even writing is almost impossible. Anything the mental mage shows their target the target will remember, any memories the target shows the mentalist will be remembered.

Mechanics:

Takes 2 Emote after reaching is connected. A mental barrier can fought off mind melding if the target is trained and aware of the mental mage attempting to enter. Allows the mage to see all their targets thoughts and emotions. The mage can not move or use their body physically including talking, writing and movement of limbs but they are still aware of what is around them. Memories are are kept upon disconnection.

Redlines:

  • Images or memories shown to the mentalist is done willingly and cannot be forced. (OOC consent required only)

  • Memories can be kept from both parties.

  • Requires Reaching to be completed prior to this spell.

  • Has the same sonar distorted mana effect as reaching.

Example:

Cyrene after finding her targets mind moved to enter it. Gently she began to press her mind into her targets attempting to enter quietly and avoid any detection. Her target unsuspecting at this point  has no protection or mental barriers up. A master of the art she let but a small slither of her thoughts into her targets mind but they were trained to notice such things and quickly Cyrene found herself up against her targets mental barrier.

IoYWRUB.png

Mental Illusion - Non-Combative

Once the mage has mind melded with their target they can than cast mental Illusions upon them.  Using their mental Illusions a mentalist is able to create emotions, thoughts and senses than push them onto the mind of their target. Mental Illusions are much harder to pass off as false, as the mind itself is perceiving what the mental mage wishes not just the senses of the target. A mentalist with their creativity can create any sort of Illusion but if it does not obey the laws of logic and understanding. If the mentalist creates Illusions that are outrages and far too unbelievable the targets mind will see it as an Illusion and reject it. Mental Illusion can be used to push emotions onto their targets if they wish to push extreme emotions onto their targets the mentalist must slowly build up to that point. They can control their targets senses interrupting them before the mind receives them and replace it with what they wish instead they can do but aren't limited to dulling, altering, increasing or even totally cutting off their targets senses. They can also push false thoughts onto the targets mind in an attempt to make them believe they are really thinking such things. Mental Illusions are also used to aid the mentalist in breaking mental barriers

Mechanics:

Takes 1 emote at minimum after successfully mind melding. Powerful Illusion spell were the mage can Illusion emotions, senses, thoughts.Cast direct into the mind harder to ward off than normal illusions but not impossible. Can be used to break through mental barriers.

Redlines:

  • Mental Illusions must fall within the spectrum of believability, but targeting the mind direct give a bit more freedom than normal Illusion. Utterly unbelievable Illusions will simply fail if pushed onto a targets mind

  • Mental Illusions can only be done if the caster has witnessed or read about what they’re trying to create.

  • Requires Mind Melding first before this spell can be done.

  • Follows all redlines of previous spells.

 Example:

The mental barrier Vas found himself before was a simple one. His target replayed a memory of her mother embracing her and telling her how much she loved his target, She pressed the emotion and the feeling of a motherly embrace to cloud  her thoughts, memories and emotions from Vas. Unfortunately for her Vas knew his target was very emotional. Slowly he started to cast his mental Illusion onto his targets mind, Every time the memory replayed the voice of the mother slowly faded and under it she seemed to be saying something else. Soon the message of love would turn to on a e of hate and how the child ruined her life. His target broke unable to handle such words in her mother's voice and her mental barrier dropped allowing Vas access to his targets mind.

IoYWRUB.png

Diversion of Consciousness - Non-Combative

In order to exert even more control over their targets mind the mental mage can use an ability called Diversion of Consciousness. When a mentalist uses Diversion of Consciousness they are attempting to discount their targets mind from their body and put the mind in a dream like state. A target can be removed from this in the same way you would wake someone from a very deep sleep. While in this state the mentalist target is even more open to the power of mental Illusions, some of the more powerful mentalist able to create fully unbelievable mental Illusions to make the mind believe it is still fully reasonable. If the target is aware of the mental mage and understand they are attempting to put the target in this state they can resist the attempt to bring them into such a state if they are also aware that they are now within a dream like state their mental barriers can be also be strengthened if the person is of strong enough will. When the target wakes up they will notice that there is a small lapse in their thoughts.

Mechanics

After mind melding, takes 2 Emotes for a willing target, at minimum 3 for an unwilling depending on the mage’s tier and targets resolve. Puts the target into a dream like state giving the mage more power over the targets mind. Target can attempt a mental barrier again if aware and knows the feat. Spells cast upon some in such a state requires less effort from the mage.

Redlines:

  • Targets can be woken up using the same way you would wake someone up in a deep sleep

  • Targets will notice a small lapse in their thoughts

  • Unbelievable mental illusions can be done in this state. Even ones not witnessed by the caster.

  • Requires Mind Melding first before this spell can be done.

  • Follows all previous redlines.

Example:

Alia browsed her targets thoughts after melding with them, Idly the pair chatted before Alia asked if he was ready and with a yes she started. Slowly her target would notice his senses starting to dull and would feel as if his mind started to slow. Soon her targets eyes would close as they went limp their now dreaming as Alia watched his dreams waiting for his nightmares to begin.

---

Cyrene sit within her targets mind, after bringing down his mental barrier she keep up the attack forcing negative emotions onto her targets mind trying to draw his attention to combating that as she started to ready another spell. Her targets senses would start to dull and his body grow heavy but her target took notice and turned his attention to fending off her attack attempting to rise a mental barrier once again to stop her. He fell into her trap but only noticed once his mental barrier was up that Cyrene has managed to finish her spell and discounted his mind from his body and now she could press even more control upon him.

Memory Manipulation - Non-Combative

One of the most powerful tools within the Mental mages list of tools is known as Memory Manipulation. Firstly this spell requires their target to be in the dream like state that such as what happens only after use of diversion of consciousness. The next step is for the mental mage to find the memory, this can only be done on a willing mind. Once the memory is found and the mentalist can view it they can then use their powers of mental illusion to edit the details within the memory. The entire memory can not be change as the targets mind would simply reject such a massive change. In order to avoid rejection the mentalist must keep their changes of the memories within the realm of believability. Once the mentalist has finished manipulation of the memory  they then must press it back into the mind. If the targets mind accepts the changes as real, they may feel a few seconds of hysteria as the new alter memory is pressed onto the old unedited memory. Another way the mentalist can use this ability is to unblock memories that their targets sub-consciousness has locked away for whatever reasons that may be. This does depend heavily upon the condition and reason why such memories were repressed. This can not be used however to restore memories that have been locked away by mentalists memory deletion ability.

Mechanics:

Takes 3 emotes after Diversion, Extra emotes if memory must be found. Allows the mage to edit details with in a memory.

Redlines:

  • New memories cant be created.

  • The target must be fully willing to under-go this. OOC consent required only.

  • Applying the new memory will cause discomfort for both parties.

  • Can only be done after Diversion of Consciousness.

  • Follows all above redlines.

Example:

Safwa Would be within his targets mind, Already he had sent them into a dreaming state and Safwa himself had locked himself away so no harm would come to himself. His target would be willing and working him bringing up the memory when he asked. Looking over it as the memory played Safwa would find the part his target wished changed. He wished for a few identities to be hidden. Safwa went to work starting to change and edit the memory, Starting he made them all slightly darker and made the details all slightly blurry. Next he would move onto the faces within the memories changing small details, removing blemishes and adding them to each target. Small details but ones that could be used to if someone were to find them out. Next he would move onto the voices. Starting he would alter the sound of them slightly and quiet them before making it seem as if they were coming from another room. After his work Safwa pushed the memory back into the targets mind. While his target was willing he still felt  panic and both felt an odd pain as his targets mind accepted the new memory and overid the old.

IoYWRUB.png

Memory Repression & Restoration - Non-Combative

Another powerful tool within the mental mages list of tools is the power to repress and restore memories of their targets. Both of these spells require the mind to be in a dream like state caused by the diversion of counsines. Firstly is the ability to repress memories comes an easier task with newly formed memories and as the memory ages it gets harder to repress. Firstly the Mentalist must locate the memory they wish to repress, while fresh memories can be found quickly and easily older ones can take quite some time. Once found the mental mage can than extract the memory from their target and bury it deep within the targets sub-consciousness and put a ‘lock’ of sorts onto the memory to prevent the targets mind naturally restorying it. New memories repressed have generally no repercussions however old memories are painful for both the target and the mentalist to repress and for the following eleven week the target may get flashes, blurs and a feeling of something missing as the mind attempts to repair the damage done from removing a long term memory.

Restoration is the ability to restore memories that have been locked away by a mentalist. The longer the memory has been locked away the harder it is for the mentalist to restore it, If it has been locked away for more than an eleven week the memory will suffer degeneration that must be repaired by mental Illusion before the memory is restored or else it will damage the targets mental state. If a mentalist is trying to restore a memory another mentalist has locked away they must also break down the locks and defences that had been replaced around the memory before being able to restore it.

Mechanics:

3 Emotes after Diversion. Allows the mage to lock away and restore memories.

Redlines:

  • The target must be willing. RP & OOC consent.

  • Repressed memories can be locked, similar to mental barriers.

  • Can only be done after Diversion of Consciousness.

  • Follows all above redlines.

Example:

Celia sat across from her target, already she had melded and put his mind into a dream like state. Her target showed her the memory he wished to be repress, the recent death of his child. Celia set to work already knowing the memory she had to repress,  made the process quicker. She watched the memory replay again feeling the sadness from the man as he also saw it. She started to weave the art targeting where the mind had located the memory first pulling it from that location. Celia started to weave the lock or protection that would stop his sub-conscious from recovering it. Once she had created the protection on the memory she then replanted it back into her targets mind. Putting it deep within his sub-conscious to make it even harder for the memory to be recovered or repaired by his mind. As she replanted the mind both would feel a massive feeling of sadness, pain and a feeling something was wrong, but once she had planted the memory it all disappeared and only a mental mage would be able to recover the memory know.

IoYWRUB.png

Neurospace - Non-Combative

Every Mental Mage has a way they see their mind and organize it. This is there mental space or Neurospace. A weaker mage may only have a single room but a master of the magics can have vast and complex constructions only limited by their own creativity. The creations within a mages Neurospace can be strange and abstract as it does not need to obey the normal laws of physics, creation or sense. The mentalist can also give her neurospace emotions that is passively emits to all within but they are a gentle suggestion not an overpowering force.

The Neurospace acts as a mentalists outermost line of defense against others invading their minds, unlike a mental barrier it is always in place. The space allows a mental mage to setup intricate areas of their mind to unlock and bypass to access their mind. While also offering as a hub of interaction, a mentalist can invite others to their neurospace after channelling a circle with them through divergence of consciousness. Bringing others to your neurospace however does have consequences if exploited, both you and those brought would be in phantasm ethereal body of oneself able to cast spells and abilities which can potentially damage another. The spells used have no physical manifestation of damage on the user but can be enough to break ‘free’ and awake from the neurospace and spell effects of unconsciousness, leaving you or the individual brought within your own space to contemplate or wreak havoc.

Neurospace is the first line of defense which requires to be breached prior to accessing the mentalists mind, allowing an individual in your neurospace eliminates this factor allowing them to manipulate your mind at will and thus cause damage. Allowing mental mages within your own neurospace to not require willing consent to edit or modify memories.

The reasoning to bring others to your neurospace would be for control, an area created by a mentalist unbenounced, you as with others within your phantasm bodies experience the world within as if it is real, illusions, walls and structures would all be physical within this place to your phantasm. Damage occurred only affecting you mentally, it’ll still take a long time before one can break out of the neurospace.

Mechanics:

3 Emote after Diversion of consciousness to bring another into your Neurospace. Neurospace passive has a ‘feel’ or emotion of the mages choosing. The look of neurospace can be anything the mage wishes and do not need to obey real world physics, laws or sense.

Redlines:

  • The construction of a mage's Neurospace don't need to obey real world physics

  • You are more open to attack from people within your neurospace.

  • Other mental mages don’t need willing consent to affect your mind in your neurospace. They will still require consent if you do it to them. (RP consent isn’t required, OOC consent is for your own mind).

  • No physical damage can be done on any individuals, mental damage as the ‘phantasm’ can affect your ‘phantasm’ body believing you’re suffering from those injuries/illusions.

  • Everything in your neurospace will be ‘physical’ created by the neurospace owner.

  • Neurospace entities cannot be altered heavily while others are within.

  • Requires all parties (except for the caster) to be under Diversion of Consciousness.

Example

The Upside Down contains no life recognizable to descendants beyond plants and trees, instead harboring its own unique biology and ecosystem. Biological growth of various kinds, such as tendrils and flesh-like membranes, are prevalent across the dimension, permeating and covering most surfaces. These life forms appear to grow and spread in a similar fashion to fungi or plant life.

(From Stranger Things - Upside Down definition)

IoYWRUB.png

Neuro-infiltration - Non-Combative

On full mastery of neurospace a mentalist gains the ability of infiltrating the minds of others with willing consent, long as the target is within diversion of consciousness. This ability is used to probe the mind of memories similar to memory manipulation, however allows the user to directly relive the memory as if it just occurred. The mentalist will feel any mental or physical damaged caused in this process feeling every emotion and strike. If the damage is too much for the mentalist to handle they’ll be removed from the memory but not the neurospace of the individual, able to go back to relive the memory or pick another.

While the mentalist is probing around the other individuals mind, both individuals will be under the effects of diversion of consciousness unable to move within the physical world, the mentalist is a phantasm illusion of themselves within the mind of the target while the neurospace individual will be themselves in the memory reliving it directly. Nothing new can be created except for minor illusions from the mentalist in any of these memories. The mentalist while within this state can still utilize memory manipulation to directly alter memories or repress them. During this state it’ll be easy for a mentalist to find a repressed memory to unlock as within the mind will show dark ‘spots’ within the neurospace of memories.

Mechanics:

3 Emote after Diversion of consciousness to bring your own mind another Neurospace. Neuro-infultration forces both individuals to relive any memory mental or physical pain on their ‘phantasm’ bodies, including emotional scaring. The look of neurospace is confined to the memories found, while no memory is selected it’ll look similar to a passage way of doors.

Redlines:

  • No physical damage can be done on any individuals (For Real bodies), mental damage as the ‘phantasm’ can affect your ‘phantasm’ body believing you’re suffering from those injuries/illusions.

  • Everything in the neurospace will be ‘physical’ created by the neurospace owner.

  • Requires all parties (including the caster) to be under Diversion of Consciousness.

  • The neurospace owner can remove individuals at will from their neurospace.

  • Requires willing consent (RP & OOC before entering and memory manipulation).

  • Follows all redlines of memory manipulation.

IoYWRUB.png

Combined Mind - Non-Combative

Two or more Mental mages can work in unison in order to achieve their goals. Sometimes a task requires more than a single Mentalist or maybe a teacher simply wishes to show their students how the art is done, no matter the reason Mentalist can join forces in what is known as the combined mind. This allows two or more mentalist to link their minds up. Firstly they must sync their minds up to allow this to happen or they will find they simply clash with each other. Doing so allows them to share the effort of spells cast, create more powerful spells and overcome mental barriers and other obstacles easier. They can also focus on doing different things one Mentalist could be on the defence while the other is on the offensive or one could be a distraction while another works. Another small feature of this is Mentalist can combine there Neurospaces allowing them to create truly massives and impressive creations but such things only last while the mentalists are linked and upon unlink it returns to there normal Neurospace but should the same mentalist link up again the neurospace they created will reappear. Using this spell put both mentalist in an almost dream like state and only able to react in the most basic of ways in the real world so such even giving a wave requires a large amount of effort and standing would be impossible.

Mechanics:

Takes 2 Emotes, Once reaching has been done. Allows mages to connect their minds in order to share a workload or empower spells. It allows one mage to watch another work.

Redlines:

  • Spell effort is only spilt if both mentalist are working on it.

  • Spells are only empowered if both mentalist are working on it

  • Follows redlines of Neurospace.

Example:

Cyrene and safwa sat across from one another sitting back in their chairs with their eyes closed, The pair would reach out sensing each other's minds and for now dulling everything else out. Safwa would reach out to Cyrenes mind with Telepathy just to be sure it was in fact Cyrene. Once he was sure it was safwa would begin to start match his mind to Cyrene, as he did both of them felt the major loss of control over their bodies. This time he would give Cyere the control. Once the pairs minds has sync’d Cyere would than reach out again finding her targets mind. Once found she would start to meld with it and as safwa’s mind would follow hers into the meld.

Mental barriers (Feat)

Mental barriers are not a solid or defined thing instead its a simple term to define many complex forms of mental defence. They come in many forms but the most common involve flooding your mind with rouge thoughts in an attempt to hide what the mentalist is after and stop them infucning your mind, Another is sending false scenarios in ones mind of flooding it with false memories. Some use chaos of thoughts, feelings, memories, Puzzles, riddles and mantras also work it's said some even make their mind appear to be in a total brain dead state. No matter the techniques if it is designed to stop a mental mage from invading your minds and works it's called a mental barrier. Creating a mental barrier however is an active task and no one can simply always have a barrier up, Firstly you must be aware that your mind is being invaded than you have to turn all your concentration to building and maintaining the barrier as any slip of concentration will mean it falters and the mage can slip past.

Mechanics:

1 emote. Can only be used once someone has been discovered attacking your mind.

Redlines:

  • Must be learnt from a mental mage t3 or above / anyone with the feat can teach another.

  • You do not need to practice mental magic to learn this feat. This is after all how you guard yourself.

  • Any creature that can connect to the void can learn this feat no matter if they know magic or not. It does not give voidal weakness as you do not connect to the void to cast one.

  • Mental barriers do not stop Mental Illusions or Division only seeing thoughts, memories and information passed.

  • All barriers can be broken, It is impossible to create a barrier that can not be broken.

  • Be creative in your barrier, but remember how they work and make sure yours will, if unsure just ask your teacher or any mental mage or ST

Tier progression

Tier 1

A mage that has just learned how to search for minds, at this stage they will spend most of the time learning to how to correctly use the spell reach and how to filter out the minds they sense. They also discover their Neurospace and can start constructing it as they wish but they are very limited in its size.

Spells:

  • Reaching
  • Neurospace

Redlines:

  • May join and watch in a combined mind but not act.
  • Has a small neurospace of one to two rooms with very weak defences.

Tier 2

After two weeks of irl training and practice the mentalist should almost fully grasp and understand the basics of the art. Reaching becomes easier for the mage and they can filter out minds correctly now. Now the mentalist would learn the art of telepathy and once they were capable of that they would start learning how to mind meld correctly, although at this tier they can not hide their presence as they do. They can now also joined a combined mind but at this stage they can only watch not act.

Spells:

  • Telepathy
  • Mind melding

Redlines:

  • May join and watch in a combined mind but not act.
  • Has a somewhat small neurospace  with three to four rooms and weak defences.

Tier 3

After two months of irl training and practice the mentalist is finally considered capable. They can mind meld and hide their presence so only the alert would notice. At this tier they start the most intense part of their training. Now they must learn the arts of Mental Illusions but at this level they are only capable of small suggestions. The art of Division of Consciousness must also be learnt but its very draining upon the mentalist. Memory manipulation also becomes available to them once they have a grounded understanding of mental Illusions and lastly they learn how to open up their mind with the art of Empathy. They can enter a combined mind now and act.  At this tier they are proficient enough at invading others mind they can teach others how to form mental barriers correctly all though it does take a considerable amount of time 1 IRL month. The mentalist can create a neurospace the size of a large house or mansion and had average defenses against other mentalist.

Spells:

  • Mental Illusions
  • Division of Consciousness
  • Memory manipulation
  • Empathy

Wards:

Mental Magic wards differ from Mental barriers, The biggest way is while A mentalist can still detect and connect with a target's mind they can not finish the mind melding until the ward has been defeated. The tier of the ward is limited to the tier of the mental mage helping create it and of course the strength of one enchanting it. A mentalist below the tier of the ward can not break though it alone or must have a large amount of time to drain its power source slowly. A Mentalist of equal tire of the ward can break it down two to three emotes depending on the size of the mana gem. A tier above can do it in half the time one to two emotes. A mentalist two tiers above and destroy the ward as easily as they enter the mind. A ward can not stop a mentalist indefinitely it is to buy the target time to either put up a mental barrier, leave the mentalist range or find and stop them from casting.

Animal minds

A mentalist is able to connect to an animal’s mind and be able to understand how it feels, but that’s about it. They could talk to an animal mind but it can not understand the mentalist, if the animal has been trained it will respond to commands spoken to it but it is no more effective than saying them out loud.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m going to be looking back over the lore once more. I haven’t fixed everything but posted it for the feedback of spells mostly.
