Writ of Abdication, 1781

We live in chaotic times, when Demons tear through the veil, the world spins on and yet we remain the same. I never wanted nor expected to inherit my position. I wanted for sea, and so in good health and of able mind, I hereby abdicate my title as Duke of Cathalon to my brother; The Rt Hon. Richard Victor Helvets, before taking my leave once more for the open ocean.

Signed,

HG Robert Castor Helvets

Richard Helvets watches from Varoche calmly as his brother finally embarks again for the world unknown.

“Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me

We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot

Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho

We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot

Drink up me 'earties, yo ho..” proclaimed a hook-nosed sailor, having succumbed then to languorous stupor with vacant tankards tossed around him.

A correction is subsequently issued.

“To whom it may concern,

It has come to the attention of the Ministry that in fact, Mr. Henry Frederick is elder brother to Mr. Richard Victor. Given this is the case, Mr. Henry is a more legal heir.

As a result, this abdication is most likely illegal. Instead, Mr. Henry Frederick is the legal inheritor and will become Duke of Cathalon. A possibility for a more legal heir in the form of a son of the former Duke exists but to our knowledge there are none.

If any parties feel suitably aggrieved, then this case may be settled in court, but it is the opinion of the government that, in accordance with the ORC, Mr. Henry Frederick Helvets is the most legal heir. A court would most likely uphold this as fact.

Thank you for your time,

Lorena Helvets stands aside her father as her uncle departs the Varoche Palace, somewhat glad he chose his passion over the hardships of governance and peerage.

@Lyonharted™ https://www.lordofthecraft.net/profile/56632-mumkee/ As his father left once more for the sea, Peter Helton Helvets, the son and younger brother of Wilhelmina Beatrix Helvets returns from cold storage to claim his inheritance in spite of his two older uncles. Ready this time to be the new inactive Duke in their stead.
