Viscounty of Krusev, Haense

The Farmlands surrounding The Viscounty Of Krusev

The quiet meadows surrounding the Viscounty of Krusev had always brought calm to the young Viscount. The fortifications put in place by the army did not seem to distract him all that much. It was his home, and it would always be. Things were different, however. The lands that once brought him peace and serenity, were now plagued with decay and ruin. All Jan Otto could see were desecrated farmlands, and the ruins of the keep built by his papej and mamej. Sorrow was all the Viscount felt, sorrow for his home, sorrow for his family. Those closest to him could tell that he was broken, just as his lands were. In the days following the attack on Krusev, all Jan Otto could do was contemplate.

He sat within the Karosgrad tavern, a bottle of Carrion Black in front of him. He had been sitting there for hours. What little he was able to recover, was all laid out on the table. A few notes, a few Krawns, and the drink. Jan Otto closed his eyes, and vivid visions of the battle for his homestead came back, overwhelming him.

The calm before the storm, perhaps one of the most vivid memories he could recall. Perhaps the least chaotic of all. In the distance, bright vineyards and bustling crops. In truth, Jan Otto was naught but a coward. He had spent his entire childhood sheltered within Krusev and Karosgrad. The sound of trees cracking in the distance alerted him, and the sight of the trolls making their way through the Haeseni woodworks only added to his fear. All around him soldiers from the HRA prepared their defences, and all he could do was watch.

Even Jan Otto however knew that he had to carry on. He followed the soldiers as they descended the hill Krusev sat on, preparing to defend his home. He had come unprepared, foolishly assuming that he would be safe and sound within his room. The calm before the storm, it was soon to end.

A booming blast, and chaos all around. It was all Jan could remember. The sounds of canon and fire bombs alike leaving only a ringing in his ears. Perhaps this is what the young Patriarch needed. His sheltered life left him disconnected, unaware of the dangers that lurked just outside of Karosgrad’s mighty walls. All around him were well trained soldiers, and between them Jan Otto looked like nothing but a coward. A coward whose only purpose was to step back, away from the danger.

The ringing didn’t stop, and it wouldn’t ever stop. His bloodied head, nothing in contrast to what the others had sustained, those who rushed to his aid. Before long, the Haeseni were driven back. Their last stand, the hill on which Krusev stood tall. They knew why the trolls were there, the farms. There was only one option, it could not fall into their hands. In a last, desperate effort to halt their advance the group resorted to their final option. Fire quickly spread throughout the vineyards, the wheat soon following. Ashes and smoke are all they could see, as they fled between the embers.

A home was lost, but a realization was made. Between the ringing in his ears, the bottle of Carrion Black and a handful of coins, Jan Otto found hope. What use was a Patriarch who would just give up on his house? He was determined to reclaim the land that was rightfully his. They may have lost the battle, but would win the war.

OOC: a very special thanks to both @Xarkly and @JuliusAakerlund  for giving us a fun event. Special thanks to everyone who came over as well, I hope everyone enjoyed it.

I’ve had a lot of fun leading House Kortrevich so far, and as much as I am a newcomer to Haense it’s a playerbase I have grown very fond of. Krusev is to be rebuilt, and I’m very excited to see what the future will bring. Also special thanks to everyone in the House who has been a part of it since I took over, you’re all great.
