Foreword:

Since our victory over the barbaric savages of the north in the 10th Nordling War, I have since found my intention drawn to within the lands of our great Empire. Having had the previous works of my Uncle, Sir Henry Marshall, given to me by my father I spent the intervening weeks surveying carefully the maps he had published in his lifetime, I read the works of Sir Alexios Basrid who voyaged the waterways of the Empire at the turn of the century and the works of other scholars whom reside in the many villages and towns across our great Empire. It is to those men as Sir Henry Marshall, and Sir Alexios Basrid, that I give credit to in this work as well as the late Sir Frederick Armas who began the revival of Imperial Cartography. Determined to update the map of my Uncle, I set to work on my own and took on the task of completely redrawing the map of The Holy Orenian Empire to dutifully reflect border changes and development of new regions in the Empire since the year 1805. It is through this work that we will all come to appreciate the greater Empire around us and recognize the sacrifice of those who have laid down their lives to protect it.

Yours Sincerely,

Lord Joseph d’Azor

Providence

Providence exists as the shining jewel of the Empire, its capital and central political, cultural and economic force. With a population of one hundred thousand people, one can consistently find the streets bustling with travelers, merchants, common men and noblemen alike. Having taken many lessons from throughout Imperial history the Imperial Engineering Corps took many years to carefully plan and construct the capital with a large focus being open streets and areas such as those in the capital of Johannesburg as well as modern Imperial architecture that we have taken great care to develop. Being the largest city in the world, Providence boasts thousands of houses, hundreds of businesses, small and large alike and many societies, and government institutions dotting the skyline as well as the Imperial Palace.

The land providence sits upon is a granite plateau that has been carved and laid with stone brick to allow the city of Providence to tower over the surrounding terrain, a fortress in of itself the Imperial architects took great care to ensure the Imperial capital would be able to withstand a siege if such a horrible reality were to present itself. Golden fields of wheat and grain line the north and south ends of the city where farmers work long hours producing great bushels of wheat for the many citizens of the empire. To the east of the city is the large forest Anne’s Wood which is home to a multitude of creatures, named for the late Empress Anne I. Its natural beauty is quite the spectacle when viewed from above within Providence. Also located in the east is the port of Henry’s Wharf, the largest port in the Empire ships line the docks as workers offload foreign goods from around Almaris and even beyond and in their place loading the vast resources and goods the Holy Orenian Empire can produce for trade. To the west of the city lies the Plains of Providence and Lake Providence, rolling hills of green grass rustled by the wind one must take GREAT caution when passing along the eastern side of the city as the Imperial State Army is known to conduct weekly cannon drills firing cannonball after cannonball into the distant terrain in their ever prepared exercise for battle.

Southbridge and the South

Located upon the border of the Holy Orenian Empire the village and fort of Southbridge is the main port of entry for the Holy Orenian Empire, this outpost is manned by the steadfast Imperial Rangers who maintain its security as well as the other borders of the Empire, although not much to see Southbridge contains an Inn The Rowdy Ranger where weary travelers can rest their heads before continuing on into the Imperial hinterlands. It is from Southbridge that one can see the docks of Eastfleet where various traders gather and land their cargo and passengers many of whom make their way north into the Empire.

North of Southbridge itself contains the Southern Empire, rocky outcroppings and large trees dot the landscape lazily, Containing the village of Rosemoor, the town of Redenford and the Duchy of Sunholdt, the South acts as a gateway to the rest of the Empire with various roads and highways branching off and into the rest of the nation, originally a bandit haven the roads and woods of the south have been efficiently rooted of banditry and through the efforts of the Imperial State Army and the establishment of Southbridge has lead the land to be pacified and quite safe to travel.

Dobrov and the North

Travelling north from Providence leads one to the town of Dobrov nestled in the pine forests of the North, a bustling place though still under construction the few residents of the North make their living through trapping and the milling of lumber. Sitting on the border of the Kingdom of Haense the North consists of large pine forests with trees thousands of years old, rocky ridges, ferns and podzol cover the ground which is trodden by numerous examples of plentiful game from Deer, rabbits, boars and bears. The North is also home to the County of Mordskov and its stone keep as well as the County of Valles along the border with Haense. Although certainly less wealthy than its neighboring lands, the North offers a certain ruggedness that other parts of the Empire do not and attracts a hearty stock of Imperial citizens who choose to make the North their home.

New Esbec and the West

The frontier of the Empire, New Esbec is nestled between the western mountain ranges and The Langford Lagoon to the east, this hearty town was originally settled by a band of hunters and veterans exists on the bleeding edge of Imperial influence, It has been many years however since its establishment that many of the towns original inhabitants have departed. Only in recent years have the proprietorship of Godfrey Briarwood and Magistrate Tobias de Sarkozy has New Esbec began its establishment. One thing is quite certain if one wants adventure or a peaceful existence the frontier town of New Esbec has that and much more to offer those who believe they too can make a life in this rural mountain hamlet.

The rest of the West consists of several smaller manors and towns, Just beyond New Esbec over the mountains to the west lies the fortified Halstaig Manor which sits along Halstaig lake. Safely protected by Mountain ranges and the hearty men of New Esbec lies The Pale sitting within a large dark oak forest these Orenian Elves have settled to make their lives along the western Imperial highway and The River Petra. Just to the north of Redenford on the border of the West lies the Duchy of Cathalon acting as a guiding beacon on the road to the west just over The River Reden.

Leon d'Azor Gives a nod of approval upon looking over his Brothers mapping skills. "Talent, that is what this is."

Sir Ledicort d’Azor would be in the countryside as he was planning the foundations of a new development for the Empire. One of his aids would reach the party as he brought forth a copy of the new Holy Orenian Empire map — created by non other than his son Joseph. He would smile brightly, “Henry, it looks like the boy has a mind like your own, I know you would be just as if not more proud of the lad.” He would hold the map as he carried on to the destination.

“Not quite the work of MAP MAKER JOHN LYON, but a neat product nonetheless.” stated Gib Garak, author of the Brief History of the Westerlands Volumes I-V, and propitiator of Jib Jelly.

Joseph d'Azor knows that no one could match the skill of John Lyon. Truly an artist he is.
