Settlement Lore (could include previous roleplay posts showing involvement with the community) (1000 words minimum):

Levandam is a settlement founded upon three ideas. A haven for those who have unsavory pasts or presents, prosperity through any means necessary, and innovation in order to improve the lives of those within. Originally an abandoned outpost left to rot on the outer edges of the continent, the site was rediscovered by legendary twins Kosher and Elliphas Daesmon. After needing a place to stay following a rather unfortunate incident in a neighboring nation, they came to the decision to take refuge in the somewhat stable remains, exploring them thoroughly with curiosity high. They stayed there a grand total of seven days, powering through ideas and breaking ground. The founding days were recounted as the following in a long forgotten logbook.

Day One. The brothers explored the settlement’s in and outs. They generally were unimpressed by it, but something about the little fortress charmed them, so they opted to stay another day to explore the surroundings a bit more. After finding initial cracks in the walls and some dead ground, presumably a farm, they tried to brainstorm what type of fort this was meant to be. Was it an abandoned defensive fort? Was it a place that a prominent noble has been bestowed? So many questions, so little answers. As darkness fell over the West, they decided that progress could wait until the next day. They entered the interior of one of the sturdier buildings to take shelter, for the night was cold and unforgiving.

Day Two. Kosher had an idea when they were exploring the nearby volcano side. An idea for a haven for all, even bandits. He tried to convince his brother to no avail, but it got the gears turning in Elliphas’s head, who started to formulate a practical implication of this idea. As they scoured the area around their newfound camp, they discovered there were many ruins nearby, and other places of rituals. This all didn’t matter to them, as they were simply scouting out their surroundings. As they went back to camp at night, the only thing that could be talked about was Kosher’s idea.

Day Three. As the sun rose, Elliphas had a well thought out plan on how a government could work. The two could share power through prince titles and give out nobility to only the people vital to the security and prosperity of the state. As the two debated on the powers of each position of power that they wanted to control the state, they began to agree with each other more and more. The plan was simple: total power to the government to make decisions and nobility would get a place in their court. The two spent the majority of the day arguing about what the government would look like, completely ignoring the deteriorating state of the settlement. Near the end of the day, they finally decided to reinforce some of the doors of the more important buildings. The day was unproductive in building, but productive in the sense of accomplishment for getting a sense of what the future would hold.

Day Four. As Elliphas rose, Kosher was nowhere in his line of sight. He heard the banging of steel against steel and he ran towards the noise, thinking there were possible insurgents or even squatters on their newly claimed turf. When Elliphas turned the corner, he saw Kosher slashing at the hinges of a locked iron door. As the two worked together to break in, they looked at each other in amazement at what they saw. They had broken into a room with a throne in the center surrounded by riches. They would decide to use these riches to rebuild the city, and make it a home for all who were trusted to share.

Day Five. The two had slept in the throne room the previous night, staying up most of last night's hours planning on how they were going to rebuild this town. Once they woke up they would exit into the town square and begin checking over all the buildings for any aged damage. Once they had accessed what all they needed to repair the buildings they would go and find people who had these materials traveling to all lands, and purchasing them. Then on some occasions would collect the resources themselves. By the time they were finished, they would have wagons full of materials pulling them all back with the help of some of their friends leading some of the wagon’s horses. Once they had returned back to the town the sun had already set, and there had been a new moon that night, leaving little to no natural light for them to see. This would symbolize a new beginning for them, as they all went and rested for the rest of the night to wake up early that next morning to begin work repairing the town they had found.

Day Six. Kosher would stir first that next morning, taking a peek outside of the throne room where they had all slept. The sun is just barely creeping up and shining its light over the scorched land where the volcano rested. He would turn and shout out to the group inside “On your feet ye lazy swines.” Aruna and Elliphas alongside Vesryn would all get up and begin to walk over to Kosher. Once they were all prepared for the day’s tasks, they would head out and begin work, fixing joist by joist in each building that needed to be repaired. Replacing the floor work in most, as it was all beginning to rot for the most part. They would only take one break throughout the entire day which would only be for around 15 minutes as they quickly ate and got a bit of rest. Though immediately after they would begin work again. This time going to the walls and fixing any stone that was chipped worn down, or just plain out missing. They would go out to the dock at the end of the day fixing the planks on it, so it was safe to walk on. Once the sun began to set over the horizon the group would make their way over to the dock though as they walked over it Elliphas would shove Kosher off into the sea. Which Kosher would seem to shrug it off as just a simple prank. Though later on when the group was watching the sunlight completely disappear from the sky, Kosher would shove Elliphas off into the sea shouting “That’s what ye get!” followed by a laugh, and the entire group would all laugh together until finally they would all fall asleep on the dock after a successful day of hard work.

Day Seven. As the sun began to rise over the town, the group on the dock would get splashed by a small wave that washed over the dock. As Elliphas yelled out, “Shit!” Aruna would start to laugh, which soon became contagious and soon the entire group was laughing. When the laughter began to die down, Vesryn asked Kosher and Elliphas the fateful question that they had been avoiding. “What will the name be?” The twins looked at each other before Kosher spoke. “Levandam. The name is Levandam.” As the group wasted time by looking over the open waves from their secret paradise, an understanding was made between the group. That this would be a great home, and a great haven for all who had been treated harshly elsewhere, to rise.

Settlement Government Structure Explanation: Two Princes lead the settlement, appointing two advisors to help them with administrative tasks. They both are representatives of the settlement, appointing a council in order to deal with housing and other tasks. Ministries will be assigned in order to keep a somewhat stable government in the event of an internal collapse.

The basic order goes as follows.

Prince -> Advisors -> Ministry Leaders -> Ministry Officials/Army Officials

Ministries each have their own internal setup.

How does this settlement offer a unique niche not already found in an existing polity on the server?

It offers its own unique set of ideas on being a haven for those who have unsavory pasts to come be something. It takes in disgraced noblemen, bandits former and current, darkspawn, commoners wanted for crimes by powerful nations, and stands alongside no one on a diplomatic scale. It’s only diplomatic take is for selfish grabs for land and power. It takes the base ideals of trying to be a peaceful and non problematic settlement and throws them out the window.

How does your settlement tie to the greater lore and narrative set by the community on LotC?:

It ties into the greater lore by taking a place long abandoned by the ages and revitalizing it and turning it from these ruins near the edge of the continent and turning it into a known site and having it despised by its neighbors. It turns the West from being fairly peaceful and tries to bring instability to it once more, leaving a good place for experienced players to come and try to protect the communities in the West and for new players who want a variety of good experiences with the community.

Have you ever run a settlement on LoTC before and what experience do you have with leadership within roleplay communities among the current groups of players?

Neither Pancho nor Braydebn have run a settlement by themselves before.

Do you understand the metrics for maintaining activity and the grounds for settlement removal, along with the standing polity cap?

Yes.
