The snow melts and a blanket of grief falls,

For nations in eternal ruination,

Once proud and bright and blessed with prosperity,

Now only a broken echo of noble aspirations. 

 

The coming of greed consumed the fate of many,

A false hope of riches, a perfume of vanity.

Power and authority beguiled their souls,

They were enchanted, seduced, enthralled. 

 

A stagnant beginning to an invisible end,

Rulers of these nations, blinded by desire.

Lost in the potential of short-term gains,

They failed to recognize the multifaceted peril. 

 

Thin threads of civilization unraveled,

Collapsing architectures of antiquity.

The snow melts, but the stains remain,

Visible remnants of a reckless, ruined nation. 

 

A page of history closed in a heap of frozen waste,

Beyond the quayside and the sandy shore.

The snow melts, leaving dark shrouds to loom,

Nothing stays behind, all is covered in gloom.

 

Depraved and corrupt hearts now rest in stillness,

Vanquished by a vice that was insatiable.

Once glittering empires, no longer do they reign,

Once proud and bright, now only a forgotten strain. 

 

The snow melts but the memories still linger,

Memorials of a people and a time long past.

The ice melts with a sorrowful silence,

A reminder of the price of human vanity. 

 

A requiem for those that lost their lands,

A treacherous tale of rulers and their demands.

The snow melts and the cycle of devastation,

Echoes through eternity, a lesson of rule and ruin.
