‘LO UNTO THE ADRIAN PEOPLE,

 

Following the unexpected abdication of His Grace, Heinrik Sarkozic, Duke of Adria, the Adrian nobility and layfolk alike gathered in the Duma Hall of Velec to elect a new Duke and head of the Adrian state. This Duke would need to meet the lofty precedent set by his predecessor, he who brought Adria – like a phoenix of legend – soaring upward through the ashes. 

 

After ample debate but very little real competition, it came to be that this Duke would be the young Lord Johanes van Aert. The Princeling of Renatus promised thus: that he would secure peace for the Adrian people at the first opportunity via cooperation with the Canonist League or, if he were forced, through the beating drums of war. He spoke also of strengthening the institutional framework of Adria through reform and restructuring.

 

The court of the newly elected Duke does thus invite the citizenry of Adria, in addition to any non-member state of the Canonist League, to the Fifth Ksiaz Helming ceremony – a tradition formally lost to time but uncovered during the reign of Heinrik I Sarkozic. Additionally, the Curia of the Church of the Canon is officially invited to attend the investiture as guests of honour.

Portrayed over an array of documentation and maps within the halls of Brandthof, the elderly King of Aaun perused his opportunities carefully - eventually complaining to his accompaniments,

"It seems that the Miracle of the Petra, in which God forced our arms to do no harm to one another, has backfired. Now this rump-state fools itself into believing it shall have reconciliation. I think not!" the Alstion exclaimed, an unexpected bout of passion for his age, propelling him into a rambling tangent,

 

"Suffer not the heretics and their wile ways - tongues of the Great Deceiver they have, for they shall do their best to manipulate themselves into being viewed as the downtrodden, unbefitting of our righteous rage unto them, alas, we Crusaders clarified by the Light of God, cannot be so easily swayed." The Alstion slams a fist onto the table in emphasis, the shock of which displacing many items,

 

"There must be an extermination of the Adrian, nay, Renatian, way of life, from root and stem for their persistent assaults unto the faith. Our most Holy Church must reaffirm the Godfreyist Crusade upon the ascension of the new Vicar of God, lest we allow ourselves to idle away." With this, Charles Alstion concludes with the battlecry of the Crusade;

 

"Adria Delenda Est."

From the heights of the Alps in The United Kingdom of Aaun, Caius Godwin could not help but laugh about the announcement for the so-called 'Coronation' - ripping the letter into pieces. "I have heard from quite some fleeing Adrians that the Duchy turned into nothing but a ghost Duchy. One might even compare it to the emptiness of Vortice." 

 

He then proceeded to puff from his pipe whilst laughing mockingly whilst in presence of his own family members regarding the current Duchy. "It is ironic how the idea of this entire Duchy was to unify the Raevir but as a result, now a majority percentage of the Duma is deemed to be of Horenic descent!" He laughed oncemore, before his face turning rather stoic, finally stating:

"Adria Delenda Est, and may that Duke and the Rebels be buried under the ruins of Adria, one day. For now, every Adrian in my sight is to be sent to the Void."

Manfred Barclay frowned as his newly found ally and by now good friend Caius Alstion handed him the missive, a hand brought up to his chin as, seemingly, he pondered on the matter at hand. A few moments of awkward silence followed before he turned back to the Princeling to inquire, as well as handed him the missive back. 

"This is all good and well, friend, but you are saying that they commonly call him 'Johanes' ja? Surely they know that the proper Batavi way to both say and write the name John is Johannes? Or is it true what they say about the Pertinaxi, that they are illiterate and have only ever known the way of the sword?"
