The Light of Hope's Release

"Keeper... Mentor... Sister... Friend..." The Commander muttered, as he performed the rites for the deceased Keeper, bearing witness to her demise. Cremation. Candles were lit all over the Keep that night.

The ancient Great Sequoia shifts and rustles as the brilliant beam of light illuminates the distant, wildly overgrown grove, its roots intertwined with the ancient Great Ebony tree beside it. The vines dangling from the mighty tree's branches twitch and curl, and a great flock of pigeons and crows erupt from the canopy as they are disturbed, such a thing had not happened in centuries, the two enormous trees nigh dormant and still. But in this moment, it stirs, the branches slowly lower, and lower, the tree visibly drooping from how it had stood just moments before...

...and a loud CRACK echoing as the trunk of the tree opens, and the ent-like being within emerges, brilliantly glowing emerald eyes staring up past the canopy into the evening sun and raising both of her hands, tears of thick sap running down the vaguely feminine figure's face as from the entire grove around her, a melody rises up into the sky...one their mother had sung to them an age ago...one her sister had sung to her in the depths of her own hopelessness and despair so very long ago. The melody rises higher, carrying up where the figure could only hope it was heard now, as she sinks to her knees and begins to weep uncontrollably...speech far beyond her at this moment.

((I came to this server during Aegis, you followed me to it right as Asulon began, and we wove such an intricate and wonderful story together, the two surviving siblings carrying on in the world against all odds. In the end, we faced so many things together, IC and OOC, drama and bullshit aplenty, and while our RP paths diverged, the sisters' bonds remained strong, their love eternal if sometimes strained.  I will miss her so much, even no longer participating here I still have a very few connections...this is the largest one that remained. Rest easy Vailoen...Andria... dearest sister and wonderful partner to RP with.))

"I will see you on the eternal battlefield." A scarred Arknight muttered as she witnessed the death of the Keeper of Guardianship.

Spoiler

Thank you for the beautifully done RP Vail. I'm glad to have been able to meet Andria on both of my characters who have been paladins and she influenced them both to significant degrees.

Aobh, who had been known as Adelith when she knew Andria, would weep once the news had reached her. She had not known her fellow Elder well but Andria had been an important part of her journey when she was newly Embered. It is better to live to fight another day sometimes. The Elder had told her, back when Aobh was head strong and foolish as all young mortals are, believing themselves invincible. It was Andria who had given her the courage to leave fights when necessary- it was that advice that had seen Aobh grow old enough to unify the Paladins for the first time in generations, fully unify. Andria had left her mark on every generation.

Aobh did not know the details of the Elder's demise, but if she had she would have cursed her son's name, just as her once husband had cursed their son's name a thousand times, just as she had done a hundred more. Instead, oblivious to the cause, she poured a bottle of her beloved alcohol out and lit a candle, held her own quiet vigil for the dead paladin.

She is dead, and you are not. Over the coming days many will wonder what our Lord meant by this.

The words echoed in Aeolus' mind for the rest of the night. He was bruised, heavily so, and exhausted, yet when he closed his eyes all he could see was Andria at the base of the chancery, lifeless. All he could hear were her words to Elarhil. Sleep did not come easily that night, or for several after. The sins of his past taunted him. Elena and Laurissa's words mocked him when the rest failed to haunt him.

Aeolus the Apostate.

The once Paladin.

Xan's wayward son.

He's lucky we haven't kicked him from the keep for what he's done.

One question remained when the rest faded away.

What did their Lord mean by sparing him?

Even this deep into the wilderness The Grizzly Druid saw the golden light that hit the earth, Standing within his lonesome grove even some of the animals that wandered it took note. Some scared, some curious, some mesmerised. While it had been ages since their last meeting he knew he would always feel it within himself when this day came, maybe even she would feel it if the roles were reversed.

Staring into the sky as the light and mist would claim her to the heavens his gaze locked the entire time. Upon its end the druids head sinks slowly, while his finger tips rise up to his shirt collar to unwrap a pendent from around his neck, curling its chain within his fingers as he holds the gem within his palm. Staring into it while his eyes grow wet, his body growing unsteady as he lowers himself to a knee, pushing the pendent to his chest as his free hand grips a clump of grass. Not a sound escapes him, but woods know, the animals feel it too. Pain. "Rest... it is earned.." The Druid would stay knelt for awhile, While the forest mourns with him.
