Although a staple of medieval (fantasy) culture and featured prominently in media that have commonly inspired LotC RP through the years, such as A Song of Ice and Fire and its TV adaptations, jousting has seldom been in the spotlight within the past few years aside from an odd event. As someone fond of RP jousting tournaments, I am curious to hear our community's thoughts and opinions. If you're interested in sharing your thoughts, please take the poll and reply below.

Not very fun if you're watching. Hard to joust if you're a laggy player, but time consuming if done through CRP and rolling. However, I would love to see a joust done like on GoT and HotD where it is a big affair, and favors are asked for, announcements and wagers are made, etc. It could be a lot of fun if more measures and active participation is encouraged, but at the moment, it is either line up and joust, or park and AFK in the stands.

I like rolling since those with poopy laptops (like myself) can have a bit more of a chance, than stuttering mid joust.

roll/crp jousting sucks, takes way longer than it needs to. there's a jousting lance in surge PvP made specifically to facilitate tournaments. jousts are the one mechanical event where the average joe can beat a pvper as well.

i think the fact that as soon as a tournament is held everyone's brain turns off and they start afk monkey running around or drooling in the stands sort of destroys any impact they can have though. hard to get any character development from "PVP COUNTDOWN STARTING 5...". spectators need to step it up, so do event hosts. have something else going on, merchants selling stuff in the stands, some guy running around taking bets etc. if you're a spectator actually pick a contestant and cheer for them or something

jousting is cool. although I havent had the chance to spectate many I'd certainly like to, I just never know when and where. ideally jousting is done thru a combo of both RP and PvP, wherein mechanical hits determine the outcome, and the participants emote the follow-up as they wish

as others have pointed out, these events tend to be really unengaging so most spectators are actually tabbed out watching youtube or doing something else. obviously this isn't a jousting-only issue, and I think there's a broader conversation to be had about events on LOTC and why 90% of them are as unengaging and forgettable as they are

I've participated in and hosted jousting tournaments. My preferred way to run them is to give the participants 2 or 3 chances to use the surge jousting lances, but if they dont make contact I have the roll and move on.

all i'll say is that i think jousts have become oren-era balls (as in theres too many of them), to me it feels like a very lazy event when you have nothing else happening. thats not to say its bad, its just boring after a while.

I love jousts because they are fast paced and exciting.

Any other sport or game on lotc often has a lot of rules that the audience may not understand, therefore taking away from the excitement if you have to ask "who is winning" and is drawn out even if fun for the participants. (Chess or Dueling CRP)
Jousting is simple and even when it's not mechanical you can still RP it out using /rolls (I'm a /roll enjoyer) and still have it be quick.
Never really went AFK during a joust, as moth said, it's fun to shout and place bets.

To answer Question 4:
Mechanical & /roll a thousand times over.
Jousting wouldn't work well with honor system in my mind...
