“The most bitter of tastes is the hint of a life we could have lived. If only-”

Symphonies of childlike laughter rattled incessantly through her mind, a ghostly whisper in the desolate chambers of her memory. Their joyous peals, so vibrant and full of life, drifted like distant melodies into nothing but cruel mockeries of what once was. The void that resided within her chest had evolved into an aching chasm, an inescapable hiraeth that tugged within the abandoned corridors of her heart, its footsteps still echoing late within the night, relentless in its torment.

“My soul bleeds.. and the blood silently swallows me whole.”

She had watched as it all slipped through her fingers like grains of sand, so easily leaving her standing amidst the wreckage, a solitary figure cloaked in saudade and grief. Once a fortress, their bonds had snapped and they had all crumbled into ash. Perhaps her devotion had burned too hot, the blaze devouring them all.

Her thoughts wandered to him - her husband and their centuries of love. His betrayal, veiled under the guise of ambition, resonated violently within her heart like the thunderous roar of a summer storm. The brilliance of her fury blazed so fiercely that it eclipsed their tender memories and obscured the truth, leaving only the bitter taste of abandonment. He who had vowed to stand by her, had forsaken her for the hollow allure of his own selfish desires. In his pursuit for power and ambition, he had cast aside their bond and plunged again into the depths of his own darkness.

“The shadows grow long.”

Her children, who once clung to the folds of her skirts in search of solace and comfort, soared fervently now towards the heavens upon the wings of their father’s boundless ambitions. Yet, in their ascent, they drifted ever farther from her embrace. The closeness they once shared gave way to an endless tundra of distance that stretched out between them, barren of the warmth that had once bound them.

The legacy they had woven together, once a rich tapestry of threads, laid frayed and bare, unravelling before her eyes. The name they had bestowed with such pride now bore the heavy weight of disrepute, tarnished by the actions of those who had forgotten the very essence of their lineage. Disappointment, a bitter draught she had tasted time and again, lingered upon her tongue, its acrid taste a constant reminder of her sacrifices that had amounted to nothing

“After all that I have given.. after all that I have sacrificed… what will remain?”

She stood upon that cliff of sanity, her resolve fraying like the tattered remnants of her bloodline, ready to plunge into the abyss that beckoned with its siren call.

To My Dearest Children,

Spoiler

Kallias, Kassian & Éowyn,

You are fueled by the very same fire that forged us, and your dreams soar high, reaching heights that fill me with pride. Yet, you wander within the orbits of distant stars whose light I can only glimpse from afar. Know that my love for you shall always remain undiminished, a constant flame that burns so brightly. I hope that time has made a mistake, and has reserved a moment for us to find each other again.”

~ Haelun.”

“My Beloved,

Spoiler

Thalon,

I never imagined we would arrive at this sorrowful crossroad. I believed your pursuit to be just, yet it has exacted a great toll - a sacrifice I have borne with quiet endurance. Yet now, I must forge my own path. If you are to be guided by your own desires, then I too must heed my own call. My love and devotion will always burn for you, you are well tangled within my soul; forgive me if it was not enough.

~ Ro.”

“To My Family,

Spoiler

Our name, once a beacon, has become a shadow, a remnant of its past. Our family, once devoted and warm, has become lonesome and cold.  Love alone cannot bind the tempests that rage within us. Will you remember, amidst the clamour of your own ambitions, the truths that we hold dear? Will you honour the legacy that we so tirelessly sought to impart? I implore you all to remember. In my absence, I hope that the winds will shift and the seasons turn, and when I am ready, I will return to you all.

~ Grandmother.”

From the other side of the world, a dear sister, born of bond over blood mourned the hopefully non-fatal departure of her kin. Thoughts of what she could have done to ease her sibling's torment plagued their wretched mind, whether they sat upon their throne, cut down foes or lay in bed, unable to rest for the eve. Valindra Nullivari was not often one to employ empathy, yet in that moment, for one she held so dear, she understood all too well the tolls life took on the mind, accompanied by the sharp sting of betrayal and the slow, agonizing burn of inaction. She loathed to lose another loyal friend, yet she could not bring herself to hate Ro'ya for her departure. Instead, such gave way to envy.

Her own famous brand of Nullivari ambition had led her to the throne her kin had once held, as well as the same powerful ear they had the ability to whisper into at their leisure. As she penned a letter to her sister, which she aimed to hide in a safe place for collection upon her return, she reaffirmed to herself that her own goals had not diminished the value of family, as Ro'ya had so very much wished to instil as a value in the Talonii Nullivari.

"Wherever fate takes you, I will be here for you, lari'onn... Safe travels."

-=- Fury -=-

A figure stood before the flames of a great mountain as tears welled within his eyes.

Within moments the figure lashed out with a hateful cry and in its wake came fire. . .

Within its wake came oblivion. . .

Lost and tormented. . .

"I never meant to fail you."

The wails of a drakaarling echoed throughout the valley and hung in the air as the inferno engulfed all that was lush and green. . .

Beneath that starry sky with the God's as his witness he had sworn. . .

That son who had been chosen and gifted with His Father's fury;  He had sworn to tear it all down.  To burn it all.  To rebuild it from the ashes they whence had came.

"I will make it all right, mother."

Balthazar sat upon his Justicar's seat within the Court of Azdromoth, the behemoth once contemplating over the sacrifices and victories made to establish his father, Azdromoth as an immortal god. A nearby herald delivered the missive to his talons and it was thus opened. "No..." The voice of Thalon appeared for a moment, a single tear streaming down his cheek. A long pause overtook the creature as within him, a coldness faded. The soul of another within the Justicar, chilling to possess disappeared after the words of the letter were read and thus, only fire remained within the beast. Azdromoth's Justicar was now.... Alone.
