I hate activity checks and I hate admin based tile taxes

I think tile taxes are stupid because they don't encourage you to use the land you've claimed. You just claim as many tiles as you can afford based on taxing the poor serfs in your capital, because it makes you look cool on the map and lets you distribute spoils to your supporters.

A more intelligent "tax" system could encourage people to claim land based on whether they can actually use it, and keep people out of remote areas that no one is ever going to roleplay actively in. Also, the proceeds from the taxes should go back into the mineconomy somehow. I am tired of selling iron ingots for 0.2 mina!!

I'm conflicted on it. As Orcs we generally have a specific biome that we want to claim the entirety of, but because we are a niche race raising funds is really obnoxious, particularly because Orcs are very anarchic and hate paying taxes.

The way I've squared the circle is just by rply saying 'all of x is mine' and then ignoring people when they link me the tile maps

-metaplay still exists despite the rule, though the heavy bans did a good job with putting the fear into people. wish it worked towards erpers icba to think of a fix on metaplay

-do not bring back free-build. anyone who thinks freebuild is good is dillusional.

-also OOC realm mechanics hold a HUGE influence on rp. ACTIVITY! ACTIVITY! ACTIVITY! WE MUST UPHOLD ACTIVITY FOR TILES!!! I MUST DO THIS DECISION WITH THIS NATION SO WE CAN PROVIDE ACTIVITY FOR EACHOTHER!! I MUST WAR X NATION SO MY FLEEPERS WAKE UP AND CARRY ACTIVITY FOR ME!!

-staff will always be biased, its literally player run and voted in by players. I just wish more staff with the power over the community (admin, manager etc) were more active in the actual community. There are times when someone who is not known or placed in the LotC community as a whole becomes staff and its a mix of incredibly biased and unbiased. I'd personally make staff more punishable. There are still staff on the team and staff that were on the team that continiously got away with a slap on the wrist - if any at all

Staff are not trustworthy aswell. its difficult to report things unless you KNOW the actual moderator and you KNOW they will handle the situation properly with a care and without bias. - i still cannot forget the time a moderator banned like 3 people permanently for no reason and got away with it until he got finally thrown off the team

-discord is ******* awesome. people who doomer about discord ive noticed do ass rp. discord is great for events.

-lore isnt boring, ST are doing an awesome job. @Petsch2k, @capn_avery more people should follow in their footsteps and do random events IMO. I actually think the problem of ST is focusing too much on eventlines thta have a meaning on lore instead of individual shit that makes characters based and heroic. Filter the trve heroes of mankind with the shitty 'templars' that do nothing.

-YES. WARS ARE SO STUPID, AS EVERYONE SAID IN LLIRS POST - FIX THE ******* TILE SYSTEM RAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH it is horrid shite that literally ENFORCES metaplay and puts a necessity on discord and metaplay. 'We're fixing it next map dw' >regions with one ******* tile type ??

-yes, respectfully navi, who tf cares if someone has a political belief that is against someone elses. as long as they dont actually HARASS someone it doesnt matter. i also hate the label 'hate-speech' its so retarded. half of this server would be gone if they were banned for their political or religious opinion

i go back to reading stupid polish

Erma, Polish is actually not stupid 🤓

I don't think claiming territory for your nation should necessarily equal owning the land OOCly. You should be able to claim the freebuild area and hassle the freebuild players if you want. The converse of that is players should be able to settle in your borders if you don't actively keep them out. If you're a real nation, you should be able to deal with squatters, either by kicking them out or vassalizing them.

Also, tiles shouldn't be as big as they are and taxes shouldn't be onerous, just enough to make sure you're actively using the land.

yeah I would prefer the system mentioned in your first paragraph. New map tiles are significantly bigger than this map's tiles btw.

I’m not a fan of the tile system. I don’t think it fits in well with the more pure-RP focus that LITC aims for. Tile ownership grants 100% control of territory to its owners without room for contradictory border claims, splitting up tiles as part of an agreement, areas of an “owned” tile being more wild and not under as much direct control, etc. A more RP-friendly system would allow for these things instead of having exclusively rigid, indivisible areas either 100% controlled or 100% uncontrolled.

Ideally there should be a sort of sliding scale of influence over regions where places close to/within major capitals can operate as modern tiles do with control gradually diffusing out near the borders, eventually blending into a sort of wilderness between nations where border claims only exist as RP documents.

It is unfortunate that this stupid system gets pushed every map, but we can be optimistic and say that it's just inertia. I'll write a proposal for limited freebuild when I get access to a computer with MS paint.

  • I am of the belief the best thing that can be done is to add to the server policy page about metaplay guidelines about what is acceptable and unnacceptable, as well as some sort of proactivity about discouraging it, and encouraging better systems. maybe meetings between realms and staff to talk about state of server regularly to at least have communication (even if arguments).
  • realm mechanics should serve the OOC purpose of administration, and match RP not dictate RP. I think it's become weird how there has been repeatedly this map buzzwords use to replace PRO, without any just codified way of expressing a RP reality. On the flipside, recent attempts of implementation of this have been odd. Overall though, the entire system should be redone. Were it up to me, and we could have anything coded- I would have it based around RP hubs / settlements and have vassalization and such be entirely an RP structure, not an OOC system of control.
  • staff generally do a good job, i think, these days. I've been on server for a bit and have witnessed a lot worse; outright abuse. Admins banning people purely, unironically, for ban reason of being annoying. even when i will argue about certain ST or Mod verdicts, I recognize that this staff is way better maintained that the server historically was. I think the biggest thing I'd want to see is genuine searching for better alternatives for systems that are known stressors, as opposed to continuing to do the same thing. EX; Warclaims, nations, etc. I feel like an attempt isn't
  • discord sucks but it alone isn't the issue- it's people being cliqueish and encouraging a ton of OOC-RP bleed. People should be more serious about discouraging that overlap, as it really does grow to crazy levels from multiple sides. I won't pretend im perfect.
  • lore apparatus is much older than most of the team, and yes frankly in many ways it sucks but most complaints and alternative visions are worse. Just like other systems, I would just appreciate people don't be so protective of stagnancy- but a lot of lore can be done PLAYER side. If anything, I'd just want players and groups more empowered to operate their own interactions with lore.
  • regarding hate speech, I think as jihny said harassment should be seriously curtailed- but people playing an antagonistic character shouldn't automatically be assumed to mean it OOCly. I think we could give people better guidance on that if someone is going to RP being antagonistic, to avoid things which are particularly provoking subjects (mature, or just otherwise controversial and not worth weight it brings to RP) and to also explicitly showcase the flaws of their character, and make it clear they are flaws. My dwarf was an insane violent zealot- and I roleplayed quite clearly that his zealous nature was both good in his passion for his people but also evil and wicked in its enabling of wicked deeds for a cultish goal.

Do you think freebuild should be whitelisted or blacklisted in terms of its regulation?

Would be a pleasant development if at least one moderator commits to tracking this thread and actually make changes to server policy based on the play out of well-formed arguments. If this happens, then I'd be happy to chime in. Otherwise, this will be Server Feedback Thread #5961 which is no fault of yours Navigator.

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but I think there should be build = TRUE regions covering most of the center of the map, where players are most likely to interact with each other. This would work mechanically like a blacklist system- everyone can build in the freebuild areas, maybe you get your privileges revoked if you're obnoxious.

The main concerns people have with freebuild are either landscarring, map decentralization, or their nations losing pixel power. The latter two of those can be addressed by restricting build = TRUE to the center, greylisting some areas for claimable land, and whitelisting the periphery of the map for lairs and event areas and such.

Everyone else has all other topics covered, so I’ll just cover war really quickly.

I think a good war system must either:

- allow for a complete free-for-all with as few rules and burdens as possible (in order to facilitate political change quicker and easier, which is better for the server)

- provide nations with a number of diplomatic and strategic options that allow wars to be more dynamic and interesting than just “everyone shows up on the same spot on the same day to click it out in a big blob”

I think either direction has its strengths and weaknesses, but the current method of having roughly one ruleset for every 1-2 wars, then rewriting it, has gotten everyone lost in the weeds. War costs rn don’t really provide anything except a meaningless burden, which by itself is manageable because it’s really the only “strategic” consideration you have to worry about. I’d rather the server go one way or the other with how war is conducted, instead of walking the awkward middle lane

- Don't allow people to call their friends to moderate crp for them and hand wave it as only happening because it's late at night.

- Customer service; answering tickets properly so the player doesn't get a 'no' answer and leave the situation angry or frustrated for no reason, forced to make another ticket.

- Ban the genuinely heinous people, but talk to the people who make silly mistakes. Home owners association fining someone for painting their mailbox the wrong colour seems to be how it's done right now.
