"What?! Zhis is what they call a united humanity?" The Cardinal Alaric shook his head in repugnant disgust. "The Empire would rather stamp their signet and approve a war between subjects than actually solve an internal dispute? This is preposterous, and a wretched failure. Godan frowns upon an Empire that can't solve a petty land dispute."

The Reiksmarshal breathed a sigh of relief as the crown confirmed the rules of the mutually agreed conflict between the two lords, hopefully it will mean less paperwork on his desk.

The Mute sharpened his blades from the Druscan battlements, peering down on Avistra, eyes narrowing as he watched for raiders.

"The suppression of man's inclination to settle disputes through limited, regulated, private warfare spelled disaster for centralized states of the past. For some, such as the Petrine Empire, it removed a necessary method of pressure release that allowed internal tensions to boil into civil war and revolution. For others, such as the Kingdom of Haense, it created a generation of nobility unaccustomed to warfare, thus forcing their reliance on mercenaries.

If it is man's will to war, then let him war, so long as there are no great crimes perpetrated as he conducts it within a limited, approved scope. The era of forcing internal disputes to go through the meticulous, soul-depriving, and inane bureaucratic and judicial systems had its place, and the end result of inflexible adherence to total peace at all occasions, at all times, over all issues, was written by blood in the Lower Petra and the Cordelie Winewoods. The new Empire must learn from past mistakes and demonstrate flexibility, which this initial experiment does."

So speaks Cassius Mareno of the matter of the feud between Drusco and Avistra.

The Emperor watches from his castle the vestiges of war in the west, and the prosperity of his people in the east, and says;

"You must admire a people who, instead of calling for my aid, asked to fight their oppressors unimpeded instead."

Castien comments, with a smile.

Malna deserves some more teeth for her collection, after all.

Celica, the little elf girl, curled up in the basement. Eventually, the shouts and screams and bloodied coming in were a bit too much for her, despite the warm welcomes of the Ivori folk. She hugged her cat plushie close, and wishes she hadn't left home that day.
