let me preface this with: I'm very openly queer in orientation & gendah

Banning homophobic RP entirely is sort of silly? Of course, people have been shitty and RP'd it solely for OOC motives. I've seen it, but I've also seen them get rightfully hated out of whatever community they're in and, very often, banned for harassment. Just the type of people who do that RP.

However, it's also been a big part of some of mine, and friend's, and other peoples', characters' arcs. i.e., I had a noble gov character who had internalized homophobia because of how he was raised and hid his relationship with another man in the government for DECADEEES out of shame, it led to some interesting drama and development as people. I've also had characters who were genuinely hateful, some of them pivoted and became accepting because they had family, or friends, that were gay.

With how certain cultures in roleplay are (wether it's religious, familial, etc), it's natural for hatred of certain things to exist (besides human subrace racism, that was always weird), and I think while it's definitely in good spirit ban it, it's also just an attempt at a big fix-all "we don't think the players can handle this nuance, so it can no longer exist". At what point is it catering too much to people who really ought to step back and take a breather? I say we shrimply beat all the ooc homophobes to death😍💓 anywho slay the month away my brothers and sisters

(and imho sexism rp is infinitely more annoying and evil to deal with than any homophobic rp I've encountered. put a girl on .. these rule discussions! srsly!!)

I'm going to have to agree with @Velkuzat that banning all homophobic RP is an odd move. While there are people who have experienced RP homophobia based on someone's OOC beliefs, I feel like it would be a much better policy to police OOC motivated homophobic RP rather than outright ban all instances of the RP.

As a Gay man, I believe there is a lot of enjoyment to be had and though provoking experiences earned from homophobic role-play. Stories exploring the guilt, shame, disgust, alienation, etc felt by queer people as they processed their identity has been a staple of queer media for decades and can help deconstruct the emotions queer people have felt in their own lives.

While I can see why this decision was made, I feel that the admins should reconsider and focus on removing OOCly homophobic people from LOTC rather than removing a tool for queer people to process complex emotions.

The church's position on marriage and the sacred act wherein humans, in reflection of their status of images of God are empowered to make life in their own image has been clear for a very very long time. Its clear in the New and Old Testament, the Church Fathers were also very clear on the subject.

gonna put in my two cents here as someone who joined back in 2020/2021 when i was a queer teenager trying to figure out my gender and sexuality.

i played a character who had a wife and several children, and had had other wives in the past.

she was also a vampire. i knew the risks of being that. the story goes is she had a troubled son who had tried to kill his siblings and his mother before, but my character was still trying to help him since she is incredibly motherly at heart. he lures her to some canonist place, i remember it being after pinemaw and on the road to Yong Ping, and they get into an argument. he gets a bunch of the lectors to come down into the place he's trapped her, and exposes her as a vampire.

i was prepared for this RP. i thought it was going to be exciting, perhaps she gets to tell the lectors the story of how she was kind of forced into vampirism to save her wife who ended up dying anyways, or perhaps tell the story of her current wife and children and how much she loves being a mother. i thought maybe she'd even get cured, which could be super fun roleplay. all that was thrown down the drain though when someone instantly killed her (powergamed to do it, too) for hearing that she was a woman having a wife.

there are so many more interesting ways to have those tensions between characters without racism or homophobia. because of the experience i mentioned, one of my trans characters was so incredibly in the closet that i hid all of his previous MA/FA's in fear of people finding out his old name and him getting killed for that fact, as has happened to my friend who's long quit the server.

the real life racism 100000% i am happy to see. several times had i heard people refer to Koyo-Kuni folk as "squinty eyes" or other really offensive terms to asian people IRL. like, straight up hearing people get upset with Koyo over their eye shape rather than the several war crimes they've committed LOL.

that's my thoughts for now. i definitely think that this'll help a lot of players get out of their shell more and go explore LOTC further, since many queers i know don't like going out of their circle for the fear of interacting with roleplay that mimics the exact issues they experience irl around their identity. LOTC is meant to be escapist from how stressful the real world can be.

@NarthokIt sure is their position! But if y'all can eliminate the entire storyline of Christ within Canonism, I think you can also eliminate the homophobia.

hi, also a gay man here. while i do understand this, there are some people who are not wanting to experience that. many use LOTC as an escape from those things they experience IRL,. majority of the time the people who are actually doing the homophobic roleplay are people who oocly feel that way, and just want to hate queer people "for their religion" rather than actually wanting to provide an interesting story.
