@Llir@Josh3738Curious how implementation is expected to be done? Will it just be a retcon that it has always been an accepted thing and it's pretended it hasn't been otherwise, or are groups with these beliefs be expected to make posts about the legalization and new allowance etc. Surely this was considered.

Another random ruling inquiry but something tells me its possible to happen, presume someone were to dislike / not practice Canonism, talk poorly about it, what be it for its past practices and ways, and they are punished severely for this, how would this type of situation be handled? I'd presume it'd be allowed and without punishment, as it isn't for their sexuality or whatever be it they're getting punished for, just dislike of Canonism. Still curious regardless.

Furthermore, on the topic of sexism, I think people should definitely give admins more time on this and it should be thought about VERY thoroughly, I'm glad admins took this step to talk about it more. It must consider some Orders of Knighthoods, Brotherhoods, Priesthood, a lot would be required to change if it were just a blanket ban, so good on admins for taking the cautious steps.

As someone who is trans irl and suffers from a family who heavily dislikes that stuff, this is a wonderful change to see. I hop onto lotc to do some fun fantasy roleplay and escape what irl holds. There is of course some nuance here, for some people it can be fun and interesting development but in that case keep it between you and a friend where it doesn't seep out to others who wont want that. You arent going to report your buddy for doing some hate crime on you that you agreed to and are fine with. Other peoples comfort isnt your oppression.

While ive not roleplayed it myself, mostly due to the homophobia present within the roleplay, i am almost 100% sure than cannonism after existing for so long on the server has more to it that homophobia and racism. I promise you can still roleplay cannonism without feeling the need to harass a character in the street because she held hands with a woman or they aren't white.

TLDR: Rule good, yipee. Other peoples comfort isnt your oppression.  If you want it that bad just do it with friends.

I don't appreciate my religion being defacto banned

This is a fantasy server. Your IRL religion doesn't exist in the context of the roleplay. You shouldn't need to actively "prohibit" people from being happy just to draw a parallel to your real life. You personally don't have to support LGBT people, I guess. We can't make you. But I think, overall, this ruling is a good thing, and some people are just looking for reasons to comment negative things. You can have this opinion, we cannot stop you. But can you please keep it for other discussions, not this one? This is not the topic for homophobic beliefs, regardless of religion. Religion is not an excuse for hate.

And in any case, LOTC religion should not be a 1:1 parallel to irl religions.

That's boring.

Be creative, this is a creative writing server

Think I'm in the boat as a couple other people but just some clarification or examples of how this rule would be levied would great. If this is just further explanation of the current ruling where obvious cases of listed offenses are reported then that's fantastic I completely agree!

Personally happy to see this implemented.

I originally, long time ago, disagreed. After much thought and debate, I changed my opinion, and am happy it is disallowed.

let me preface this with: I'm very openly queer in orientation & gendah

Banning homophobic RP entirely is sort of silly? Of course, people have been shitty and RP'd it solely for OOC motives. I've seen it, but I've also seen them get rightfully hated out of whatever community they're in and, very often, banned for harassment. Just the type of people who do that RP.

However, it's also been a big part of some of mine, and friend's, and other peoples', characters' arcs. i.e., I had a noble gov character who had internalized homophobia because of how he was raised and hid his relationship with another man in the government for DECADEEES out of shame, it led to some interesting drama and development as people. I've also had characters who were genuinely hateful, some of them pivoted and became accepting because they had family, or friends, that were gay.

With how certain cultures in roleplay are (wether it's religious, familial, etc), it's natural for hatred of certain things to exist (besides human subrace racism, that was always weird), and I think while it's definitely in good spirit ban it, it's also just an attempt at a big fix-all "we don't think the players can handle this nuance, so it can no longer exist". At what point is it catering too much to people who really ought to step back and take a breather? I say we shrimply beat all the ooc homophobes to death1f60d.png1f493.png anywho slay the month away my brothers and sisters

(and imho sexism rp is infinitely more annoying and evil to deal with than any homophobic rp I've encountered. put a girl on .. these rule discussions! srsly!!)

I really enjoy this comment because as someone who would also consider herself part of this community, I agree that using certain aspects of homophobia or generally targeted hate can cause for good and interesting roleplay. However, I have been on the server since 2019 and what I have noticed from people who do roleplay that involves racism and homophobia is that they are typically never truly in it for said 'good and interesting roleplay.' This tends to be the problem with this roleplay because there is a thin line between what they are roleplaying for a narrative, and what they truly believe on an ooc level. As much as people will want to deny that this isn't true, we see it right here in this very text thread.

While I may think the rule is silly in some aspect, I am someone oocly who has the luxury of not needing to struggle with their identity or how they feel. However, I am very happy to be someone who can accommodate and make room for people who might find some peace in this rule. There are plenty of younger people in this community who maybe do struggle with homophobia or general bigotry in their real lives. The last thing we want is some closeted homophobe using their character as a catalyst for their hatred, making the younger demographic feel unsafe in a community they might use for comfort.

This is a very real comment sent to me from the Church discord. I blocked out the names for privacy and because chances are they would simply say this was a joke anyways. While this comment may be funny to them and their group, there are a lot of other people who may not find it so entertaining. Who cares though, right? It's just for roleplay.

I think that whether or not IRP religions will now be forced to recognise sacramental same-sex marriages or no is actually a fair question. It wouldn't particularly match up with the traditional view religions such as Canonism have on marriage (where the aims are to model it off the coupling of Horen and Julia and beget/spawn in legitimate children) at all, and would as such just not really make any sense.
