So does this mean that this kind of RP that is kinda like irl related is dead now, and no more ras? (I refuse to say a word I never grew up using.)

Does this mean that cannonism ras RP is dead too? And they can no longer hate on magic of any kind, or even hate void magic or else?

It's good that it is being put into the ruleset. I feel like we have seen bans and punishments on people who's irl bigotry leaked into roleplay before, but posts like these probably sends an important message. In my view, the community has also made great progress the last few years. It wasn't long ago that we had the Human Empire leadership chat leaked with the NL having used the N-word 200 times...

I stumbled onto Mith's 2012 post playfully trying to discern and explain the difference between the extreme dark racism quite obviously drawing on IRL bigotry, and fantasy racial supremacy. Be aware and careful of your roleplay partners. 🤝

You sure? Asking because if 1 thing isn't allowed that is hate, then what other kind of ras hate is not allowed.

Maybe gender pearls will finally be a thing then instead of adamantly denied for years until it was forgotten about.

They are a store thing and thus applicable to roleplay! :)

Voidal magic is neither race nor sexual orientation people are being mistreated for IRL. Stop being silly.

Racism that mirrors real life racism isn't allowed.

Eg. A white serf from the outskirts of Burgundy can't pull his eyes back when meeting an Oyashiman.

Racism between the four races, magical creatures etc. is allowed.

Eg. That same serf thinks an elven cursed child is a demon, because he isn't educated on the topic and his fear and hatred of evil drives him to discriminate the cursed child. He absolutely can act on those feelings IRP.

Conflict that stems from differences between characters is a part of roleplay that makes it more realistic and alive.

It’s literally in the rule, Xein.

“Racist roleplay in this context refers to mirrors of IRL racism. Discrimination against in-game races, CAs, magic users, etc. is still permitted.”

I still believe shifting to the Second Age was a mistake.

This clearly feels like year 2035 America, not a medieval fantasy world set in the year 235.

PS. Happy Eid al-Adha to those who celebrate!

"Mirroring IRL racism" is such a vague concept because racial discrimination has taken so many forms over the centuries (refusing to let certain groups into institutions, leadership positions, etc.). What constitutes a mirror and what doesn't? Because the way it's written sounds like it could be stretched to punish anyone that partakes in racist RP to any extent if staff want that player to be banned

I believe what he's referring to is that time one certain human rper went to Koyo-Kuni and called them all yellow.

That's a mirror of real racism being applied irp.

I really do not understand how you all are struggling behind the concept. Xenophobic views between other fantasy races are allowed, think Tolkien with the dwarves Vs. Elves. What this rule is trying to implement is the prevention of using irp differences to use real and existing slurs and comments used derogatory between different real life races and cultures.

Islamaphobic jokes towards Farfolk, Racist comments towards those from Koyo-Kuni, hell I've seen people sling real racist terms towards dark elves before. I think some of you just see an admin post and want to jump on it at first sight. This isn't the death of conflict roleplay it's the mediation that real slurs and comments do not leech into what is meant to be a fantasy setting.
