During May of 2025, we saw a total of 235 applications submitted and reviewed. Out of these, 146 new players were accepted! Our accepted/denied percentage ratio last year was around 99/69.

With the most applications reviewed in the past two months, @Zhikarta  is our reigning Application Monarch of May & June, followed by @Cheese and @Evonpire.

Over the last month and a bit, the Community Media Team has been working alongside the Story Team in a new initiative to create a plethora of new videos that bring the domain of the ST into a video form.

Has it been considered before that we keep track of player retention after they are accepted? I’m not sure how difficult to implement this would be but I know those first 2 weeks as a new player can be rough and overwhelming.

1. acceptance rate is way too low

 

2. ppl not picking subraces is a bit of a problem. i'm not saying to deny people for not picking one, but it's clear for example that elven subraces are being communicated far better than the other ones. if basic descriptions of each subrace were incorporated into a spoiler tag as part of the app itself (rather than forcing them to click into a separate, massive, wiki page) and if they had a separate dropdown rather than sharing one with the overall race (cuz right now it isn't even obvious that the subraces belong to the races), the rates of people picking one would probably easily jump to 80+% across the board through that alone.

Agree with the subrace rule.. Semi-agree with acceptance. We need to filter out people who aren't gonna roleplay to an acceptable standard or bother to even know the foundation level lore of the server.

That's mostly the "Denied" section. The "Pending Denied"s are usually cases of a nitpick (sometimes even a total non-reason - "your character can't have green eyes") where the player forgot to check back on-time. Many of these should just be accepted straight away.

 

Also, are some CT using bots to automate their responses or wtf is shit like this? This doesn't look professional if that's the idea. "Edit and change the fact that you're already accepted. Don't worry, you can submit a new application that will be denied because you've already been accepted!" Like???

We utilise a standard format as it just makes responses much easier. Clearly it wasn't properly edited which does happen when you sift through plenty of applications. - Also your argument does seem a bit... provocative without needing to be, the app would have been denied for reason "player already accepted" and then filed away. It's not like anyone will review it and believe otherwise.

 

And a lot of work can go into applications, looking at lore and backstory and reasoning, having to message players to check up on them and help them organise their application. We abide by the lore and information we're given, if a species gives a range of eye colours of what they can be, we try to adhere to that for that is the information given. You aren't looking at a CT issue you're looking at an issue of freedom of creation in lore in that regard.

Idk about the other CT but I don't think I'm too nitpicky because who got time for that... However, we do dm the applicant on the forums and discord if they're able. If they've communicated with me I generally allow them more time too

Not properly edited? They knew why they were "denying" the app before going to copy-paste the template. It's just total bot-behaviour to mindlessly copy-paste a template versus taking 2 seconds to type "user has already been accepted" or whatever.

Dunno why you're spending any time looking at lore whatsoever. If the lore is obscure enough that a CT member (or any existing player) wouldn't know it off-hand, then it shouldn't be required of an applicant.

 

Can't say I agree about the freedom of creation just being a lore thing. If I as an existing player created an Elf with green eyess, I wouldn't get banned or forced to change it. If I had some backstory that chronologically didn't make sense (because I got confused by the 800 previous maps/nations/realms we've had), I would at worst be made fun of IRP or accused of fraud or something, maybe get some people OOCly messaging me telling me it doesn't make sense, but definitely not a ban or anything. If I made a character that was too tall or otherwise physically non-standard, it would have to be a serious extreme before staff would contact me to force me to change it.

 

Applicants are certainly held to a higher standard in this regard.

 

As for the Discord messaging that would also be a lot less of a problem if you just put less applications on pending to begin with.

Please stop nitpicking the one-off green eye'd Elf. Which, but you clearly do not know was done so due them being bright shining neon eyes, not because they were green. The standard isn't as high as you are making it out to be and I feel like you come to each of these updates with the same exact argument without listening to what anyone has to say. If an app is put on pending it is done so for a reason. There are guidelines in place which we follow.

 

In addition to that, the app format is pending a change which admins have to push through, which aims to make things clearer and avoid confusion for the applicant. As well as a brand new guide page which aims to better help players through the process, which also looks to reduce the amount of pending and denied apps. Please stop acting like we aren't working on any of the issues with both acceptance and retention, when clearly you don't even read what these update posts are saying.

 

The lore is being looked at to avoid, for example a player applying as a Horen or a Barclay without permission from the family's owner. It is looked at to avoid people applying as characters knowing magic before even starting on lotc.

 

The fact you keep bringing up the exact same point on each application update, and have been doing so for years is starting to make me feel like you have nothing better to do than low effort rage baiting or shitting on the CT for the sake of it. If you have actual examples of apps you think were wrongfully pending'd or pending/denied then bring them up to a manager, or apply for the team itself if you think you understand the process so much better than everyone else here. Playing the server also helps instead of lurking the forums 24/7 to complain.

 

Only reply I'm giving you, so don't even bother. You've been making the same point over and over again and refuse to listen to anything any CT member ever says. A forgotten copy paste edit message isn't the end of the world, fella.
